Dong Hyun Kim Expected to Sign a Two-Year Contract Extension

According to an article about Yoshihiro Akiyama in koreatimes.co.kr:
He is the second UFC fighter to have Korean roots after Kim Dong-hyun.

Kim, meanwhile, is expected to sign a two-year contract extension with the UFC.

The deal will see him have four fights during the period, and make $29,000 a bout. In addition, if he wins, $3,000 will be added to his next fight money.

The 27-year-old fighter debuted with the UFC in May 2008. He has so far recorded a 2-1 record. Kim is likely to take part in his fourth fight in the UFC in May or June.
Great news... as long as Kim works on his cardio and stamina.

It’ll be 2-0-0-1 soon unless the NSAC fails to do its job

Great news indeed. Looking forward to two more years of Stun Gun, hopefully with better results.

Here’s a quote from Akiyama that I found interesting, not sure how to take it:

I will debut in July or August and my contract is 6 fights. When offered, I thought Dana White was interested in me because he planed to expand his business in Japan and Korea. Aside from his real intention, I am glad if I can attract more Japanese and Korean to MMA. That would be great if I can fight in Japan and Korea as a UFC fighter.

and his clinch work….matt was all over his @$$ like a spider monkey and you could tell it hurt Kim. I talked him up a lot to some fellow mma fans….that fight was not the coming out party I had hoped it would be…..nor was his fight with Parisiyan.

Not sure what you watched but all of Stun Gun’s fights have been entertaining.

Not a huge surprise...

UFC should maintain their Korean fighters for awhile, until they make their presence in South Korea, if that’s what they intend to do.

Kim still needs some work, but he’s a very solid fighter.

If they really want to get over in South Korea, it could be as simple as getting Kid Yamamoto into WEC, assuming he can bounce back from injuries.

Considering Kim was already pulling down 40k in his debut, I would assume 29k is the starting show money figure. So if he continues to win, the purses would be 29+29, 32+32, 35+35, and 38+38, putting him in the same range as TUF alums like Karo, Koscheck and Florian.

Karo wasn’t on TUF, unless you count his controversial cameo during the Penn/Pulver season.
