WEC Re-Ups With Versus
I suppose Zuffa must be happy with their WEC exposure on Versus, but the really excellent news is the ability to get WEC essentially on demand now online. It's about time:
Versus is about to sign a multiyear rights extension with World Extreme Cagefighting, an important renewal for the mixed martial arts property.
The long-term extension, which should be finalized in the next few weeks, will have Versus televising more WEC fight cards in 2009. Last year, it had six WEC events on its schedule.
Versus is paying a rights fee for the programming, but details were not available. The extension will be for more than two years.
The deal will give Versus some broadband rights as well, allowing Versus.com to carry some WEC bouts not telecast on the network, sources said. The bouts will not be streamed live.

Dear Dish network,
Thanks for VS in HD, but why do I have the World Fishing Network and not Spike?
If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

It’s not surprising as good as the WEC does on Versus but I wish Zuffa could of found a better outlet for them.

They really ought to dump all the unaired prelims online for free. Hopefully they don’t try to load them up with DRM and charge money to “buy” them (you don’t get to keep a copy) like with the UFC prelims.

I agree that it would be good for the WEC prelim’s to be free online, it would give them more exposure. DRM sucks but it’s one of those crappy things we end up having to deal with in the internet age.
