Last I heard..
Randy was aiming for UFC 101 on account of the recovery time needed after having those bone spurs removed from his elbow.
I think Randy will be present at the event, and he is the most likely candidate to be the subject of the Fight Club Q&A session ahead of the weigh-ins.
Cro-cop is almost a certainty for this card but the UFC is notoriously shy about revealing speculative information – they’ve don’t officially announce match-ups until signed fight contracts from both parties are in their hands – so whilst Cro-cop has said he’ll be on the card, they’ll be waiting until he has a verified opponent.
I also really, really hope that the Marcus Davis vs. Dan Hardy fight makes it onto this card. Marcus is fiercely proud of his Irish heritage and for Dan Hardy to call him out on it means that Davis will be fired up to the same level he was going in against Jess Liaudin… and we all saw what happened there.

yup, youre right..
i forgot about randy nog being set for 101 and bj kenny was put off, so thats why they dont have a decent main event.. (i dont know how that slipped my mind)
So Comeback is the title because of the 2 main eventers are coming of losses, and more appropriate, the comeback of crocop and TITO! (cmon man spill the beans we know its ortiz! haha.)
there has to be some way you could report it without getting in trouble on your job.. Use a different acct. Message the staff or me, or whoever, cmon man this has exclusive written all over it! haha. :)
blink twice already! haha.

crocop should move down.. IMO, He’s too small to compete with the 4XL crew.. (well if you take it literally, the crew consists of only 2 people but the point is, most of the heavyweights are really getting bigger..)

by Anton Tabuena on Mar 3, 2009 9:29 AM EST up reply actions
I agree, but he has been against it in the past. But I also don’t think Tito can compete with the Heavyweights and with his back problems the last thing he needs is to be putting on more weight.
i think regardless if he fights tito or not (since its just a rumor as of now), crocop should definitely cut to LHW.. He doesnt have that good a ground game so having a significant size advantage when competing at LHW could really help him keep it on his feet..
and tito, i dont really care. I just want to see his head fly off from a crocop kick. Its a big target so it shouldnt be that hard to do. haha.

You're all forgetting
Cro-cop has signalled his intention to retire after this fight. He’d said a while ago that he’d like his last fight to be with the UFC. I very much doubt he has any intention of staying competitive in the HW division… unless ‘old’ Mirko makes an appearance and sends someone to the hospital via his legs.
by VikingPhotography on Mar 3, 2009 10:20 AM EST up reply actions
He also said he would be fighting 3 times for Dream in 2009:
"I believe that during 2009 I will fight three more times for Dream, then I hope for a farewell fight in the UFC."
It doesn’t sound to me like he intended to only fight once during ‘09 so perhaps he will be fighting 2 or 3 times in the UFC. If he isn’t gonna fight for Dream it makes sense to get a longer deal with the UFC.
Contract
After UFC 75, I think Cro-cop’s contract was suspended i.e. the door was left open for him to return when both he and they felt it would be the right time to do so.
Despite the rumor that his original deal with the UFC was a six fight one, there would have been clauses built into it that would allow the contract to be modified in scope based on fighter performance – so even if he does put in a stellar performance on the night, it might still be his UFC “retirement” fight.

*ASSUMING* it's Tito
I would lay money on him moving up to HW. Consider that he’s coming off back surgery and would likely find a cut tougher on him than normal. Not having the stress of dipping down to 205 / 206 just to satisfy the scales for a few minutes would be better for his body.
And let’s be serious here: anyone making 205 is going to add at least 10 – 15lbs between re-hydrating and their post-cut food intake… so they’re effectively fighting at HW already ;)
by VikingPhotography on Mar 3, 2009 10:17 AM EST up reply actions
That’s true, but the guys fighting at 220 have a distinct disadvantage against those HW’s fighting at 240-265 and Tito doesn’t strike me as the kind of athlete that will be able to handle a guy who has 50 pounds on him.
Agreed, No way Tito moves to HW
During the last Affliction show weigh ins. Tito was asked by a reporter if he would fight Fedor.
Tito’s response was “Sure, as long as Fedor comes down to 205”
Doesn’t sound like a guy thinking about making the jump. Especially when you consider that his greatest asset would be neutrilized as a HWY.
" Tell me something Steve, How does a guy from Puerto Rico loose a ball in the Sun? "
God, what a one sided ass whipping that would be. Fedor would probably finish Tito quicker than he did Sylvia.
Tito's strength
Tito is still a top 10 LHW.
However his advantage at 205 is that he is stronger than everyone else.
He will never go to heavyweight because he isn’t a dynamic Striker or Submission guy. So he is a bad fit against substantially bigger guys.
That being said, he still beats half the top 10 UFC LHW’s today if he returns to the promotion.
" Tell me something Steve, How does a guy from Puerto Rico loose a ball in the Sun? "
More like top 15.
Bolts from the Blue // "Game over." - Jamal Williams
Bloody Elbow // "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken
Rampage
Liddell
Machida
Are the only guys who are without a doubt better.
He’s already beat
Evans
Griffin
Wandy
Has a better than even shot at anyone else on the roster.
Saying he is a top 15 UFC LHW is just being a hater.
You can make a better case that he is a top 5
" Tell me something Steve, How does a guy from Puerto Rico loose a ball in the Sun? "
Top 15 LHW (overall).
Bolts from the Blue // "Game over." - Jamal Williams
Bloody Elbow // "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken
I bet Rampage, Evans, Lyoto, Forrest (improved since then), Cane and possibly Jones against Tito.

im with you on that
Tito caught evans and forrest at the low end of their progression while he was probably* peaking
im not impressed with your performance
So, with 98 and 99 announced
Are we finally gonna start to get some more matchups for 100 after the Rampage fight this Saturday? I know it’s still months away but I know I’m not the only one who can’t wait to find out the rest of the main card. I think we all assume that Rashad will be fighting Rampage or Lyoto but I wanna hear it from Dana’s mouth. I also heard a rumor (with no source quoted so take it with a grain of salt) of Jon Jones vs. Vinny Magalhaes at 100, not sure if I buy it or not (seems kind of weird that they would give Jones a TUF rookie after fighting Bonnar) but I would love to see Jones on that card.
Might be a bit before we get UFC 100 officially announced. The top 3 fights so far look great:
GSP-Alves
Rashad vs. Rampage/Machida
Henderson vs. Bisping
I’d like to see them add in Reljic vs. someone, Fitch vs. someone, and maybe Forrest vs. someone if he’s healthy
I don’t care about having the event officially announced, I just want more than 2 fights finalized for it.
Well, the UFC doesn’t announce any fights until the event is officially announced, so we’ll have to wait until they do so before getting any official fights on the card.
That’s not true, Dana has already said GSP would fight on the card (not sure if he confirmed against Alves but that’s pretty obvious) and he also said Henderson vs. Bisping would be on that card as well.
Those weren’t official announcements. I get what you’re saying, but nothing is official until the UFC press release, and we just got 98 and 99 today.
Dana White said he is out of the Tito business. That being said, I personally hope he stays true to his word. Although I would like to see him get stomped by Mirko.
"Negative, negative. I gotta stay lean and lightning and ready to fight." Capt. H.M. Murdock
Dana might be...
but Frank and Lorenzo may not be, and one thing is for sure – all three of them are in the “making money business”.

Tito? Lol..no wqay. No way is Tito fighting Croocop. That would be absurd. Wasn’t Tito just announcing for Affliction and basically saying he was going to be fighting for them soon?
Also, this card needs a main event IMO. Franklin/Silva seems like a co-main event match to me.
Yeah, he also said he was gonna have a deal with EliteXC finalized within a few weeks, how did that turn out?
So what? He said 6 months ago he was gonna sign with Affliction and it still hasn’t happened so what’s the holdup? He didn’t announce for EliteXC but he went on their broadcast and said he was gonna sign with them, what’s the difference?
sorry bigperm.. it isnt much different..
he’s been saying he’s on the verge of signing with 2 companies and nothing has happened.. He’s been saying elitexc and a fight with shamrock ever since his last UFC fight.. But we all know how that turned out.. An announcing gig doesnt change things..

I’m glad to see Struve will get another chance, though I wouldn’t object if he joined a top camp before fighting again.

Struve fighting on this card makes perfect sense
Got to have some popular European fighters on the card to act as local ‘draws’ – being only 21 years old and having a 16-3-0 record is pretty darn impressive, so keeping him around for ’99 might give him the chance to shine.
by VikingPhotography on Mar 3, 2009 10:29 AM EST up reply actions
Oh well...
I’m just glad a few people can settle down for all the drooling they were doing over how Struve, among others, was going to one of the be future masters and rulers of the HW division. That guy’s hype train was completely out of whack…and yes I realize he’s 21, but he’s got a lot of work to do…like A LOT.
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
I'm just excited to see that
both Spencer Fisher and Marcus Davis are on the card. I hope they get on the televised part too.
I don’t mind Dan Hardy, but I really hope Davis knocks his head off.
I almost guarantee
that we’ll see Dennis Siver on this card as well, since he’s essentially the only German fighter the UFC has, and he also won his last fight in pretty dramatic fashion.
Goran Reljic is also way overdue for his return, assuming he’s over his injury and done with rescuing people stranded in the ocean. Not only did he look fantastic in his debut win over Gouveia, but a Croatian fighter would be a nice addition to the UFC’s first non-UK European show.
He trains with Mirko
So – assuming he’s over the injury – a return at ’99 would be a smart move for both him and the UFC.

UPDATE
I just spoke to Goran Reljic and he says he’s still undergoing therapy (I assume he means physiotherapy) following on from his injury; he’d like to be on the UFC ‘99 card but it’s still too early to tell. I wished him a speedy recovery and left it at that.

they say you had an infection during the last fight.. How did you take that loss? How are you recovering, and will we see you at 100% against randy?

Franklin vs. Silva
Watching Franklin fight makes me wish they would extend the fight schedule to five five minute rounds. Franklin has a style that is better suited for these.
He won't need it....
when he’s getting demo’d in 35 seconds!!! j/k
As much as I love Wandy, with his current “gameplan” – Franklin will take him out. It will be interesting to see size-wise how much the cut down will help Silva, but Franklin is pretty big even for a 205er let alone 185er (195 here). He’s got to actually use his kicks – which he did for all of 60sec against Rampage and try to work the clinch…I’m assuming his lack of clinch stateside has been that he’s just fighting guys that are waaay bigger than he is and he’s not able to dominate in the plum.
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
From a strikers standpoint....
Franklin is know for his stright punches and god technical standup….Wandy is now known for his wide looping punches. On paper Frankin should win right?
Absolutely.
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
But Franklin is very vulnerable to mai-thai clinch
as demonstrated against Anderson Silva, which gives Wandy a chance if he can get a hold of him.
"It's like a flying knuckle sandwich." --Rogan
"And many men have eaten it." -- Goldy
If he can get a hold of him
I don’t think he can do a spider number with his looping punches to get into a decent muay thai plum. I can see Ace doing the pin point striking to avoid getting kneed in the clinch, plus he’s much bigger than Wandy.
Rich ducks his head down a lot when he throws punches. He was doing it a lot against Henderson. The kind of ducking of head that leads into a well timed muay thai clinch.
Or I’m talking out my arse. I’m tired!
I think it’s a decent card, with a not so awesome but still pretty good headline. Looking forward to a lot of these.
Did UFC 95 not teach you anything???
A card doesn’t need “star power” to be a barn-burner. I had more fun shooting UFC 95 than I’d had at both ’93 and ’89…. eight decisive finishes, six of them in the first round and only two fights going to the scorecards, with the first of those (Kelly vs. Mandaloniz) being – in my mind – the true “Fight of the Night.”

i think this is going to be a great card
not a lot names but a lot of fireworks IMO. im very excited for it
im not impressed with your performance
My only problem with the Franklin/Wandy fight is the catchweight.
It just seems like no matter what the result, the fight won’t further either guys career.
Does it need to?
It allows the fans to witness a match that might otherwise not happen owing to each fighter’s desire to shift to a different weight class. As much as it won’t make a difference in their positional rankings, you’ll be able to look at it and say “Man, X certainly got his ass handed to him by Y…”

Yep
I worry for that guy too. As tall as he is, he can get manhandled easily. I guess we’ll just have to wait for him to bulk up and become a monster.
keep holding your breath there. I laughed at the hype on that guy before the Dos Santos fight and def laughed afterwards when he was trying to figure out what just happened.
Guy is a joke. People reference his 16-2 record at a young age, but he hasn’t exactly been fighting UFC talent.
Another update...
HW: Stefan Struve (16-3) vs. Denis Stojnic (5-2)
WW: Paul Taylor (9-4-1) vs. Peter Sabotta (8-1)
Contributor Emeritus - BloodyElbow.com
Yeah, on first glance I don’t like the looks of that one for Struve. If Stojnic could take Velasquez’ punches square on the chin, Struve doesn’t have much of a chance standing. But Stojnic has never faced a guy with Struve’s submission credentials either.
