The best time to visit is Mardi Gras, but not for New Orleans. In the rural parts of Acadiana, guys in costume ride around on horseback to all the houses performing for food, usually a live chicken. They then wrestle and fight to be the first to snap its neck, and the captain whips troublemakers with a burlap or rope whip. All the gathered food is put in a giant community gumbo where everyone eats, drinks, and dances all night. Good times…
Festival International is also awesome.

Honestly, Maeda showed some great counter punching over the course of the event, so I can see how he could tag Manhoef, but Manhoef’s power is just nuts sometimes. I can’t believe it. It was not a win for K-1 but it was a win for Remy.
Alistair proved he can hang with their best fighter and in my opinion he won the 2nd round, but their judging system is retarded. 10-10 if you win a round. A draw if you win two rounds, but you win the entire fight if you get a knockdown in 1 round.
Um
Its not 10-10 if you win a round. If you win a round its 10-9. They just have a margin you have to exceed to “win” a round
Gimme 1 round!
by ItBurnzWhenIP on Mar 28, 2009 8:12 AM EDT up reply actions
They don’t use a 10 point must system, a lot of fights were 10-10 rounds. JLBs fight had three rounds of 10-10 rounds.
Yes
They scored those rounds even. Which you can do when you don’t have a 10 point must system. A 10 point must means that they have to score a 10 points per round for the winner. If a round is even in a 10 point must system it can be scored 10 – 10 also its just extremely rare. K-1 has a much looser system for determining an even round.

Overeem got robbed... plain and simple.
It should have at LEAST went to an extra round due to the 10-8’s at the end, and Overeem should have had 10-9’s in the first two rounds. Extension round was warranted.
Editor-in-chief of MMA-Analyst.com
Japanese judging strikes again!
They NEVER showed the replay of the knockdown Overeem had in the 2nd round which the referee call a slip. It was a knock down. This is a black eye for K-1 because they had to cheat for Bonjasky to win.
Ease up man...
accusing an entire nationality of being cheaters is a bit much

I take back the lambasting of the whole group. However, I’m still pretty pissed off at the blatant bias judging and refereeing in this one. I hope someone could put a GIF of the knockdown in the second round. Had their roles been reversed, the referee would have called that knockdown a “trip” for Bonjasky in the third.
I can see an argument for bad reffing if you thought that there should have a KD in the 2nd, but there’s really no argument for biased judging. The judges scored the fight exactly how it should have been given the calls Kakuda made during the fight.
My argument for biased judging is that the first two rounds were called “ties.” All I know is the supposedly “trip” from round two caused Bonjasky to have a bloody nose. That’s the first time a fighter trips up, falls backward on his back, and broke his nose in the process without ever having his face hit the ground.
…which dodges the entire point of Bonjasky getting a bloody nose from Overeem’s punch which the ref considered a “trip” and not a knock down. Who cares if it’s a broken nose or not? You’re obviously grasping at straws to attack my argument.
I get it already, You’re a K-1 fan. K-1 is not biased and I’m completely off based in my indignation. Considering the fact that the K-1 president openly stated that K-1’s reputation depended upon Bonjasky winning, I am obviously imagining the bias in the fight. This fight truly vindicated K-1 as elite level kickboxing and the fairness of the K-1 judging system and refereeing.
Now you’re just offering up a strawman argument (which is admittedly better than your original argument of ‘Overeem got robbed because K1 is biased and K1 is biased because they’re Japanese). I never said K-1 was not biased, that they never have poor judging or refereeing. I’m saying that this fight was not an example of any of those happening. If you want to see bad K-1 judging, go watch how Sylvester Terkay got robbed against Remy several years ago.
And wow, I like K-1. Good for you to point that out. Clearly I must be biased. I also love the UFC, Strikeforce, Shooto, Dream, Cage Force, and MMA in general. Sooooo biased I am. Saying that I like K-1 in an attempt to discredit me is about as intelligent as me pointing out that you have a UFC avatar and therefore must be biased towards MMA. It’s just stupid and meaningless.
And, just to add a bit to that, if K-1 were really trying to ‘screw’ Overeem and guarantee a victory, they would have had Kakuda deducting points for the multiple times Overeem was excessively clinching and throwing Remy, both of which are illegal and he got warned for.
Exactly
They never deducted points for the excessive clinching he was doing – which i’ve seen deductions for and there were none for the trips. WHICH ACTUALLY WARRANTED A POINT DEDUCTION as its a minor foul under K-1 rules. Considering he tripped and threw Remy like 5 or 6 times it warranted at least 1 deduction.
Gimme 1 round!
by ItBurnzWhenIP on Mar 29, 2009 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Dude. No, just no. Saying Overeem got robbed is ridiculous. The first two rounds were clearly 10-10’s and anyone who watches K-1 on the regular would agree. The last round was clearly a 10-8 because Remy got a KD. It wasn’t an impressive victory for Remy, but it was clear that he won.
I don’t think it was a robbery, but round 2 should have gone to Overeem and that knockdown should have counted
The KD was very borderline. A lot of the time you aren’t going to see KDs called in situations like that (on one foot after/while throwing a leg kick) unless the guy downed is completely blasted and out of it. Remy wasn’t and they didn’t call a KD. Given that no KD was called, the round was very much a draw, with neither guy landing very much cleanly, and neither guy producing the large volume of attacks that would justify giving them the round without landing anything cleanly.
Overeem clearly dominated the 2nd round even if the KD was not counted. When is a round a 10-9? Look at it this way: Overeem didn’t get KD by the punch in the 3rd, he got wobbled, backed up then fell off balance. This is the same thing as in the 2nd when Bonjasky got hit in the face, wobbled then fell down after he delivered a kick. Both punches wobbled the opponent into imbalance which caused the knock down. Both punches caused the opponent to fall down after the initial shot.
The judging in K-1 has no rhyme or reason whatsoever. When one opponent is dominant as in the first and 2nd, it’s called a tie, and yet a round is 10-8 when a guy loses the third round but gets a gift KD by a ref that could have been easily called a trip if using the same standard that they used in the 2nd round for Overeem.
I’m not sure what round you were watching but no one really dominated the 2nd round without a KD. That was a pretty clear 10-10 round unless you are giving Overeem points for clinching and tossing Remy to the ground.
You must have watched a different fight than me if you thought anyone won the first or the second round, let alone dominated. No one was really landing any clean strikes, and no one was taking over with a large volume of strikes. Those are both going to be 10-10 rounds for K-1 judges any day of the week.
And why was the third round 10-8? I’d assume because it’s in the RULES that a KD entails a two-point deduction to the guy getting knocked down. But if no rhyme or reason sounds better to you, keep on going with that. Just letting you know that it’s completely inaccurate.
I was watching the fight
And I’d have to say that Overeem totally dominated that whole fight. Bojansky was even losing the 3rd before the offbalance KD. Overeem totally threw him around like a ragdoll. At the very least it should have went to extra rounds.
I don’t see how you can not think that K-1 was protecting their sport with that reffing/judging?

I think both 10 point systems are useless.
Just a straight up 3 or 5 point system that actually reflected what had happened in a round would be better. When you get a 10-8 round it is usually cus a guy got his ass kicked. However, numerically 10-8 implies to me that the losing fighter was 80% as good as the winning fighter.
I dislike Matt Hughes.
A 10 - 8 round in K-1 is scored the same way it is in boxing
An absolute slaughter where a fighter never goes down but almost gets stopped on his feet. Or a knockdown in a round where a fighter is anywhere from losing the round to winning the round handily. A round where a fighter is getting completely stomped and then scores a KD can result in a 9-9 in boxing but I’m not sure if that is how that would be scored under K-1 rules which may require a 2 point win for the round for the non KD’d fighter.
Gimme 1 round!

I don't think I'll be watching alot of K-1 after this show
pretty boring.
I think Oveereem got a bit robbed, and I think it was a robbery that the judges were looking for any excuse to do. Remy was terrible.
I agree that Oveereem was tempting fate with all the trips, but he also got robbed of that knockdown.
The pre-fight statements by the K-1 president were also pretty damning, definitely poisoning the well per say. And if K-1 was teetering on the brink, depending on Remy to “defend their honor” they should start looking for new jobs…he looked terrible.
I’d love to see one boxer, trained to defend against kicks, enter that “tournament”…I have a feeling that it would be a short night for alot of those guys.
