After Dos Anjos, Tyson Griffin Wants Florian, Diego
From an interview we just did with him:
The MMA Fiend: With a victory over Dos Anjos, how many wins do you see yourself away from a title shot?
Tyson Griffin I don’t think it’s about a number of fights, you know, I think it’s the right match-ups with the right timing against the right opponent that can put you in line. Sean Sherk is one of those people that is in line - I don’t think Rafael dos Anjos is, but with a win over him hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to fight somebody that’s up there like Kenny Florian or even Diego Sanchez cuz he’s got a big name and I think they’ll probably push to let him fight for the title soon. It’s names like those that are going to let me get in line. So I don’t think it’s about the number of fights, I think it’s about taking the right fights.
He also talks about a possible rematch with Sean Sherk, how he sees the Urijah Faber Mike Brown rematch going down, the idea of Affliction possibly counter-programming UFC 100, working as a florist (yeah, you read that right) and a bunch of other stuff.

Okay, I have to ask. Why do you hat tip yourself?

Sure. The hat tip thing just didn’t make sense because the point of the hat tip is to credit someone else with bringing something to your attention.

While you're at it
What the shit is TTT? I’ll admit I just recently figured out what “WAR (person)” means. For a while I thought it might mean you didn’t like the dude. Not a big forum guy outside of here, if you can tell..

That's cool
Huh, I just always figured it was a meme that started on Sherdog or the Underground.

and I never put 2 and 2 together.
Also – Auburn’s female student body is outstanding

I think Tyson Griffin has been pretty underrated. He’s one of the most exciting non-finishers in the UFC. I would be disappointed to not see him fight either Florian or Sanchez next.

Agreed
It was interesting to see him fight Sherk, because I feel like he’s a somewhat close to a younger version of him. Not quite, but he’s a similar grinder type. Which is a huge compliment, if you know how much I love Sherk. I still want to see Griffin fight Nate Diaz. It would be a great fight and there’s some history there.

When it comes to guys that don't finish fights...
You have Grey Maynard… Clay Guida… and Tyson Griffin. Pick one to watch fight. I’ll take Griffin all day

Griffin, at least, still has the distinction of never having been stopped. Unlike that Guida guy who has been submitted several times.

Maynard will lose
when he steps up in competition. Hell he should have lost when he knocked himself out if Emerson could have just manned up for 10 seconds

You do realize he just dominated Jim Miller for 15 minutes, right?

What he said.
Maynard is right on the cusp of the top ten in the division and there’s not much reason to believe he can’t hang with those guys.

Miller is talented and did alright against middletier competition
But his big wins were Bartimus – who is a good 25-30ish despite his loss to Lamas and Matt Wiman. I don’t consider either of those guys the type of win that puts you in the top 10. Especially when Frankie Edgar isn’t close to the top 10 and that’s Miller’s loss. Maynard has wins over both and probably sits between 15-20 right now. I’m talking real top 5 top 10 comp. JZ, Sherk, Alvarez, Kawajiri… etc.

Someone mention Frankie Edgar?
Not to get all mma-thy but the only loss Frankie Edgar HAS is Grey Maynard, and Frankie BEAT Tyson Griffin.
by LBo on Mar 26, 2009 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes we're aware Frankie won a razor thin decision against Tyson
And Tyson almost ripped his leg off in both of their first UFC fights. Edgar is a perfect style matchup for Gray.
Gray is a bigger, stronger wrestler than Frankie Edgar and he went about out wrestling him since Frankie wasn’t gonna bust him up with any semblance of power in his hands. He might take Griffen down but Griffen can hurt him back on his feet and on the ground where Edgar couldn’t.

Same problem Edgar is going to face with Sherk
Are you suggesting that Griffin face Maynard after the Dos Anjos fight? I know you’re just waiting for Maynard to get derailed, so I’m curious who you’re expecting to see make that happen in the near future.. I will disclose that I like his upside considerably more than you do, and thought he was the best of the lot on TUF, though he did not win.

At the time Maynard beat Edgar, didn’t Sherdog have Edgar in its top 10?

non-finishers?
i cant believe that is a common phrase to define a fighters style. that’s like a non-literate editor. dont get me wrong, i had to sit there while my friends threw stuff at me while i fondled jon fitch’s sack, what can i say, the guys a bad ass. but non-finisher, do we have to coin the term?

Its been around for a long time already
to describe featherfisted boxers or boxers that don’t try to close the show

It doesn't have to have a deliberately negative connotation
Guys like Antonio McKee are more offensively referred to as “LNP/Lay and Pray” artists. A non-finisher is pretty general in that it implies a fighter has a record of emerging victorious via decision. Though, some do so convincingly. You won’t find much of anyone calling Sean Sherk boring, but he wins a lot of decisions. He grinds guys out. So he’s the opposite end to a guy like McKee in the spectrum of non-finishers.
