Bellator FC Confirms Third Event; Brandon Vera's Wife on Card

Kerry_medium Full cards for Bellator's first three shows after the jump.

From a press release issued today:

"The fights on this card should make for a spectacular night.  Our tournament match-ups on this show are pick-em fights, so the entire event should be explosive from start to finish," said Bellator Fighting Championships CEO Bjorn Rebney.  "The Lloyd Noble Center is a state of the art facility where our large scale ESPN Deportes production will look and sound great.  Die-hard Oklahoma MMA fans, world-class fights and a spectacular venue should make for a great night of fights."

Bellator III on Friday April 17, 2009 will feature a collection of highly-competitive, action-packed tournament bouts in the Middleweight (185 lbs.) division, as well as a collection of special feature bouts, including a women’s fight featuring Kerry Vera, wife of Brandon Vera.  Tickets will go on sale Tuesday March 24th at 12:00 pm CST and can be purchased at the Lloyd Nobel Center box office and through Ticketmaster.  Ticket prices start at $20.00 for students with student identification and go up to $100.00 for cage-side seating.

Vera is a kickboxer who has competed in Thailand as part of the second season of Oxygen's Fight Girls reality series.

Also, $100 for cage-side seats ain't bad at all.

I have never heard of Fight Girls, was it a good show?

I heard it was good, but I haven’t seen it. I think Gina was a trainer on it, too.

Definitely worth a watch if you’re into female prizefighting, even though they edit the fights the same way they do on The Contender. It’s set up TUF-style, but they don’t do MMA – the girls Muay Thai with Master Toddy in Vegas, fight amongst themselves, and then the best of the bunch go to Thailand. Gina Carano was on the first season as a “mentor,” and they’ve had some serious female MMA prospects come through like Vera, Felice Herrig, and Michelle Waterson (aka “The Karate Hottie”).

It's on Hulu

Go watch it, it wasn’t too bad, but no punches to the head if I remember right.

Kerry Vera

I’ve been wondering for quite a while why Kerry hadn’t gotten into MMA coming off of Fight Girls, on which I understand she did very well.

I’m looking forward to seeing her fight. Well, not really, since I don’t get ESPNDeportes. But, I mean, I’m all for watching her fight if given the opportunity.

Also, that’s a ridiculous tattoo and all, but it’s still about one trillion times better than the thing on Alan Belcher’s arm.

Also

I didn’t think I got ESPN Deportes either, but I dug through all my cable channels the other day and found it buried in the mid-300s. Only in standard def, though.

Hmm… Cox says it’s 419 here. I’ll have to see if I actually get that when I get home.

Is that an argument for higher expectations or more leeway?

In this case...

Higher expectations.
