Bellator FC Lightweight & Middleweight Brackets Finally Revealed
After holding open tryouts less than three weeks out from their first event, Bellator Fighting Championships have today revealed the complete brackets for their lightweight and middleweight tournaments. The full lightweight bracket was first unveiled two weeks ago, then quickly withdrawn and re-shuffled so as not to include the ridiculous opening round pairing of the promotion's two brightest 155-pound stars, Eddie Alvarez and Jorge Masvidal. Since then, rumors have surfaced that proposed replacement opponents for Alvarez and Masvidal were rejected by the Florida State Athletic Commission. According to the bracket below, Alvarez will now face Irish journeyman Greg Loughran (18-11), while Masvidal will take on the Wisconsin-based Nick Agallar (21-5).

I’m gonna go with Nick Agallar vs. Eddie Alvarez in the lightweight final, with Alvarez coming out on top. Hector Lombard has to be the clear cut favorite in the middleweight bracket.

Alvarez as the winner? You, sir, have balls.

I hope Alvarez doesn’t come into this tourney too cocky – after nearly winning DREAM’s GP, he is taking a step down in opponents here, but many fighters have thought that before…

Alvarez could just be hideously overrated.

Don’t like Alvarez, I’m guessing? I think he’s a strong fighter, stood with some of the toughest LWs in the world, and probably won’t see anything new here from his opponents. What’s you’re take?

I certainly don’t think he’s a bad fighter – I just feel like the Aoki fight took some of the shine off. I don’t put Aoki #2 like everyone else does, because I set my rankings based on who I think would beat who and I have Sean Sherk beating both of them.

Interesting...
Wasn’t there some rumblings by the AC down there about some of the opening round bouts possibly having to be re-shuffled because they weren’t even matchups? Or is this the new updated bracket?
