I think Lashley is going to suffer from James Thompsonitis, he is such a giant man and so much muscle, the oxygen and energy he will run through in any form of grappling will be immense.
He should shed some muscle if he intends on fighting for 15 minutes.
i kind of agree cause muscle takes up so much more oxygen. I think that he should change is body a bit for MMA. Also the conditioning it takes for MMA is definitely more then (fake) wrestling.
he's a three time national champion wrestler
and not (fake) wrestling either. real life
im not impressed with your performance

Am I the only one that thinks Roy Nelson is going to get submitted by Jeff Monson, probably by a sweet ass choke.
I think if Monson is on his game, he’s a better MMA grappler than Nelson is (disclosure: huge Jeff Monson mark). But Monson hasn’t been consistently on his game lately, and Nelson isn’t just a big dude – he’s also really strong. If he gets top position on Monson, look out.

If anyone’s interested, Bad Left Hook will be doing the boxing live tomorrow night. Brent was going to be doing the MMA portion for this show but went on vacation with his wife like a punk. I am an MMA fan but do not have the expertise, if you will, to try and PBP MMA fights. If anyone’s interested in doing it, we just do it all in the comments so feel free to jump in there with some analysis.

Quite shallow. The most anti-MMA opinion we’ve ever had on the site was “eh, I don’t like it so much.” Of course we’ve never had MMA fights on our cards before so WHO KNOWS?

Except for Hallman
They should be good fights. Monson vs Nelson would be the MMA equivalent of watching Mora vs Malignaggi though. It will be a purists fight. So maybe that one not so much. If I’m watching I’ll try to explain the submissions and positioning they are going through to give it more explanation than. It looks like he’s laying on him.

The MMA fights are better than the boxing fights on this card. Now a Floyd Mayweather vs JMM fight could be a little better. Since JMM is even more of a counterpuncher than Floyd it would be interesting to see what Floyd looks like on offense or if he would just stink out the joint. In the Hatton vs Mayweather fight Ricky finally made Floyd FIGHT for the first time in years and it was awesome to see the dynamic aggressive Floyd again.

If boxing has never been your thing this POS card is certainly not going to change your mind. For the record: Jones-Sheika is a laughable by way of depressing fight, and Flores-Herrera is umm…well. It’s not terrible. It’d be about third down on a good ESPN2 card.

I dig boxing, but I just don’t really understand much of it. Footwork, positioning, angles, bobbing and weaving, etc. I have a very, very rudimentary knowledge of some of that stuff, but I’m pretty lost for the most part.
That said, I’ve tried to watch what boxing matches I can and there are few I had a pretty good time with even with neophyte status: some of Roy Jones Junior’s fights (I suspect they were when he was younger; his speed/reflexes and ability to avoid damage is really fun to watch) and the Vasquez/Marquez trilogy. Oh, and Hagler/Hearns, but I’m under the impression that just means that you’re alive.

I got kinda bored with it until the last round, which was awesome. They came out, touched heads, and threw punches from inside, occasionally slugging. Repeat. I think that’s why I have a hard time with boxing – I know there’s a ton of skill and dynamic fighting styles, but in the end, it’s all just punching. I can’t wrap my head around why they would willingly use such a limited fighting style, nor do I find it suspenseful when I know what’ll happen each round.

I felt like I had a marginally better handle on the action after that.

You gotta understand the significance of what they were doing
Those were the top 2 135 lbers IN THE WORLD at that point after Floyd Mayweather. Both those guys were absolutely devastating punchers. The amount of punishment they were dishing out was truly insane.
Look up Diego’s record at 130/135 and Castillo’s record there. 2 Biggest punchers in teh division beating each others brains in

something like "….from the non-stop action of MMA, there is a lot more….. er, strategy here in boxing. " LOL!
He means alot more boredom.
hey you cant hate on him cause he's a boxing guy..
if rogan was to call a boxing match, he’d get bored and talk about different stuff cause he wont see a rubber guard. haha.

So Lashley looked like shit, eh? What’s up with Nelson-Monson?
by Derek Suboticki on Mar 21, 2009 10:35 PM EDT reply actions
Lashley = LNP for the win.
Guida nearly caught him in a guillotine in round 3. That was the whole fight.
I agree this boxing match is pretty boring, but you have to appreciate how much more technically sound these guys are at boxing than MMA fighters. Consider how Josh Koscheck threw his jab and got KTFOed, and then watch these big beasts throw theres.
Of course they’re better at punching – that’s all they train and all they defend against.

I love this...
over on BLH the boxing fans were respectful during the MMA and yet over here all the MMA fans are acting like watching boxing is going to kill them. But I bet in a day or two I’ll see a bunch of comments here from our crowd crying about boxing fans being mean.

I don't have a problem w/ boxing.....
I don’t think calling it boring is disrespectful. Boxing fans talk about the aspects of MMA and make fun of that, that’s what I have a problem with.
calling it boring is fine..

If anything they should be complaining because they were forced to sit through Lashley/Guida before they could get to their sport.
On behalf of MMA fans, I’m sorry!

Well, to be fair, there’s like less than ten people on BLH watching this event, and two of them are you and skwirrl. With a larger base of commenters at BE, there’s bound to be more guys like that here.
I’d preface every comment with ‘well, back when I killed Kimbo in 14 seconds…’

Technically calling someone a “midget” is just as insulting to the vertically challenged as calling someone “nigger”. The proper, PC terms are “dwarf” or “little person.” I actually like dwarf – it’s one syllable shorter and rolls of the tongue.

Roy Jones Jr. has still got it.

Bradu from the UG comments on the card:
Jeez, this was one of the worst events I can recall. Jones looked REALLY sharp, and I thought that he might be able to save the show with a great KO, but instead we get a ref jumping in to stop a fight BEFORE Sheika was ever even rocked! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fight stopped when a guy wasn’t even hurt.
The Lashley-Guida fight was a snoozer, and the ref blew it when he didn’t even notice that Guida was holding the ropes for about 15 seconds to avoid being taken down.
The 10 round boxing fight was a total snoozer, then the 6 rounder that followed was a horrible decision, then the Monson-Nelson fight was a bad decision as well.
On top of all of that, the commentating was bad at times too. Seth was fine I thought. Nate Campbell was good with the exception of when his buddy was fighting because he was the most blatantly bias commentator I’ve ever heard. The Colonel was bad too, he was really annoying and too much of a nuthugger on every single guy. He was way too agreeable to the other commentators and never seemed to have his own opinion. He also had no knowledge of MMA.
All in all, can’t say I was thrilled with this card from matchups to everything else. Yikes. Sorry for being such a Debbie Downer, but I know I’m not the only one who was disappointed with this one!
The match ups were good but doesn’t mean the event will always pan out. I still thought it was a strong effort by Roy Jones Jr. putting on this event. I hope he tries it again because he seems to have a good indication on what sells as far as a MMA match.
As for commentators . . . when has any MMA fan ever said a nice thing about commentators, bad commentary and refs are the third rail of the sport.
Totally agree.
Roy Jones had the right idea. I don’t want him to not do this again because some fans didnt find it exciting and the decisions were questionable. Overall it seemed to be up to par with what the average fan expected, negative or not.

all i can say is FLORIDA?? REALLY??
So Florida, you have an opportunity to have a decent to big size show, with some good, if not anticipated MMA fights and one of the GREATEST boxers of all time there and those judges were the best you could scrounge up. DaLuz and Nelson got fe-ucked, in a 100 years you couldnt convince me that those decisions made any sense, unless they were like the old colonel and decided a few short knees that barely connected were more important than 3 or 4 dominating take downs by big country. all in all I was a little impressed with Lashley, and think Dana is crazy if he doesnt take a serious look at this guy, hes no Brock yet but seems to have a bunch of potential, I think if he was in a cage he would have ended it in the first round, since there would have been no rope to get a death grip on by Guida.
