IT'S SHOWTIME Milan - Results and GIFs
I can't say I really had heard much about Giorgio Petrosyan before now, but he is a very slick fighter. He used just about everything in his arsenal to keep Andy Souwer off-balance and out of his range. The fight got dramatic when the judges unexpectedly ruled it a draw after three rounds despite Petrosyan seeming to be in control of the exchanges. Things got even more heated when Souwer was dropped by a punch in the extension round and the referee declined to give him a count. But in the end the judges saw things the way of Giorgio's incredibly agitated corner crew and gave him the decision, in what has to be considered a major upset.
On the undercard, Sahin "Kaas" Yakut looked solid in demolishing his oppenent in under a minute, and Hassan el Hamzaoui used a never ending barrage of flashy spinning kicks en route to a comfortable decision. Overall it was a pretty sweet card; the venue looked packed, and Petrosyan getting the win makes things even more interesting for the big Amsterdam Arena show in May.

Thanks and Rec'd
Awesome write-up/gifs and that May card looks like it’ll be quite a bit of fun.
Lastly, those kicks from Hamzaoui are insane.

They should subtitle the May show “LEKO RETIREMENT PARTY”

ROFL...
They are putting Leko in against Manhoef…. WOW! I’m going to have to watch that just for the spectacular mouthpiece flying KO that will ensue.

Can you do me a solid and center-align it starting with the GIFs?

I got it centered but I think I may have deleted a divider. Sorry about that. :-/

Thanks it looks way better now
I’m glad people are interested in stuff like this, the World MAX this year should be really good with all the new guys popping up

With all these big names on the May card, why isn’t it getting more press? The only time I here about these guys is K-1.

Uh, where do you live? If you mean why isn’t it getting more press in North America, I’d say because kickboxing is not a popular sport and they have no TV deal of any kind.

Yep – Louisiana to be exact. I get why mainstream outlets don’t cover it, but MMA sites usually do a decent job of covering kickboxing. Where do you live to have heard of it?

For some of these cards, you really have to follow K-1 and kickboxing in general to hear about them. If you don’t have the eye for it because you aren’t an avid fan, you’ll miss out on some fantastic unknown events.

I’ll admit I didn’t really follow It’s Showtime until recently, but their last two cards were great and the Amsterdam show is going to be off the heezy even if they lose one or two fights

K-1 is just more visible. A lot of these guys fight on shows other than K-1 and no one but hardcore kickboxing fans even care about it. This card is traditionally a K-1/It’s Showtime co-promotion, with a WGP tourney happening at it. For whatever reason, K-1 is not involved in this year’s card (so far). That probably has something to do with the decreased press it’s getting too. Moreover, It’s Showtime cards, and the kickboxing world in general, is not necessarily known for reliability when it comes to fights announced many months in advance, so people may be hesitant to start pumping an event if they don’t believe that the fights are even going to happen.

Very impressed by Petrosyan
I remember him beating Naruepol Fairtex not too long ago albeit it was not full muay thai rules. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Saki v. Spong
That fight should be pretty good actually.

How do you have a R5 decision and a R4 decision? Different fight lengths?
by subo on Mar 17, 2009 12:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It was originally a 3 rounder, then the draw created an extra round. Round 4 decision.

Petrosyan
Definitely a solid fight by Petrosyan, slipping the jabs and countering. Someone to keep an eye on for sure.
