If Rumored Matchups Are True, UFC 100 Needs To Be 4 Hours Long
Here is the rumored card for UFC 100:
*Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves
*Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar
*Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
*Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher
*Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien
*Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman
*Jon Fitch vs Paulo Thiago
*Dong Hyun Kim vs. Jonathan Goulet
*C.B. Dollaway vs. TBA
*Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty
Right of the bat it is pretty clear that if this card pans out, it might be the best MMA card on paper ever. GSP/Alves, Mir/Lesnar, Hendo/Bisping, Akiyama/Belcher, Jones/O’Brien, Bonnar/Coleman, and Fitch/Thiago are all must see fights in my opinion, and there is little chance for all seven of them to fit into the standard 3 hour timeslot. Sure, a lot of times we get to see seven, even eight fights during the broadcast (as was the case with UFC 96), but the only way to guarantee that we get to see all of the best fights on the card would be to extend the normal broadcast time from three hours to four. That way fans get to see more fights, and the UFC gets to toss in more ads and interviews with Kevin James about whatever retarded movie he is doing at the time. It’s a win/win.
And in light of the significance of this being the hundredth UFC, it makes sense. But hey, what do I know, I am just some chump running a preschool blog.

CB Dollaway
vs. Rousimar Palhares…please
Also, how about adding Marquardt vs. Maia to this card, Mr Silva? As if it wasn’t awesome enough. ;)

Why do some fighters think they can get away with tapping just once? I’ve never understood that.

joke, noun
1. Something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line.
2. A mischievous trick; a prank.
3. An amusing or ludicrous incident or situation.
4. Informal.
1. Something not to be taken seriously; a triviality: The accident was no joke.
2. An object of amusement or laughter; a laughingstock: His loud tie was the joke of the office.
Fight Night 18 is 12 fights also.
I think.
Are they going to 12 fight cards?
I think it’s because of a couple of reasons.
1. Their roster of fighters warrants more fights on the card so that they can keep them active
and/or
2. They are showing too many fights on the pay-per-view, removing any need to have prelims on their website. So by adding more they can make more money…

They also need more material for UFC Unleashed on Spike. For instance, that Jon Jones victory over Andre Gusmao is a fight casual fans might want to see now that Jones is a rising star, and on UFC Unleashed it can be used to hype him up some more. At any rate I wouldn’t mind if UFC 100 was actually 14 matches.
Jones v. O’Brien is an obvious set up fight. They’re thinking Jones will be able to stop the takedowns, and then he will light up Jake on his feet.
They’ll charge more for it. Otherwise they’d be losing money on it. This could be two solid cards, crap, make it three, two great and one medium. But I’ll definitely pay for this, and I only pay for the really good ones. The rest I go to this Italian place or I watch on the net.
I think the "Smarter" idea would be to...
have a 1 hour undercard special on Spike TV. That way they can hype up and roll right into the 3 hour PPV…Actually I’m surprised they haven’t used this tactic yet, it would only help to boost PPV sales.
They probably don’t do this cause a lot of times they get to show a couple of the good undercard fights on the PPV broadcast anyway.
exactly, if they did that there would be a TON of down time during the ppv’s if there are any quick fights
True. That is why they should do the show AFTER the ppv, even if it has a couple of fights from the ppv on it. Also, award the bonuses on the Spike show.
The only downside i see to doing this, is losing the revenue from selling the fights on UFC.com, but I think this would be way better.
If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.
They would make up lost earnings from the website with ad sales on Spike. If they announced bonuses and showed an hours worth of prelims, they would definitely get the ratings they would need for this to make sense. If the fights all went short, show me some coverage from the post fight press conference or start hyping the next fights. There are plenty of options.
I like the Spike idea. If you have a 12 fight card, and put two fights on Spike TV along with hype for the main card, I don’t see the potential damage of running out of time. Still plenty of fights on the card to fill space. Plus, looking at it, a number of fights on that card could end up as decisions. I think you put these 2 fights on a Spike live show:
Stephan Bonnar v. Mark Coleman
Jon Jones v. Jake O’Brien
I really like this idea...
Maybe put one of those on the main card though and have Fitch/Thiago on the Spike show instead.
