Paul Kelly vs. Rolando Delgado at UFC 99

The fight announcements keep rolling in today, and the rapidly-filling UFC 99 card now appears nearly complete with MMA Weekly's report that the UK's own Paul Kelly will make his initial drop to lightweight against TUF Season 8 competitor Rolando "Roli" Delgado at the June event in Cologne, Germany:

The debut of the UFC in Germany continues to gain steam as well as add fights. A lightweight tilt has been confirmed for the UFC 99 card as "Ultimate Fighter" season 8 competitor Roli Delgado will face Wolfslair fighter Paul Kelly, who will make his first appearance at 155 pounds for the show.

The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the match-up on Thursday.

Kelly (8-1, 2-1 UFC) is a ground-and-pound specialist, training out of the famed Wolfslair Academy with Michael Bisping, Cheick Kongo, and Quinton Jackson.  The stocky Brit has had good success at welterweight with only one career loss, but recently made the decision that he was best fit for the UFC's lightweight division following his decision win over Troy Mandaloniz at UFC 95 last month.  Like fellow countryman and namesake Paul Taylor (who will also be on the UFC 99 card), Kelly has fought exclusively on the UFC's UK cards, but he's at least branching out to other European nations now by signing up for Germany.

Delgado (6-3-1, 1-0 UFC) holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, although this was readily disputed, and a source of much mockery for the "Crazy Cuban" on the last season of The Ultimate Fighter.  Nonetheless, despite failing to reach the finals of the show, Delgado was given a spot on the finale in December and made the most of it, submitting fellow contestant John Polakowski with a guillotine in the second round.

  • Mike Swick vs. Ben Saunders
  • Terry Etim vs. Justin Buchholz
  • Cain Velasquez vs. Heath Herring
  • Mustapha al Turk vs. Todd Duffee
  • Stefan Struve vs. Dennis Stojnic
  • Paul Taylor vs. Peter Sobotta
  • Dale Hartt vs. Denis Siver

Kelly at 155 is going to be a contender real soon. Dude is a beast.

He doesn’t have much of a ground game, but it’ll help that he’ll be bigger than most fighters at 155 though.

Why would UFC give Roli another fight?

Roli = UFC jobber
