I'm taking a different approach this month. Instead of rounding up the best 25 fighters and branching out from there, we're looking at every UFC lightweight fight over the last three years (TUF 8 excluded by error, other isolated fights may be missing as well).
There's not much to add because I think the graph does a good job speaking for itself. I think you get a pretty good picture of the state of the division. Interested to read the reader comments.

Din Thomas
Din Thomas in the Lightweight rankings is irrelevant, as he has dropped to Featherweight, having most recently beating Dustin Pierkin at 145lbs.

Thomas fighting at 145 is irrelevant for our purposes. He still has fights at 155 in the UFC, and we’re including everything over the past 3 years.

I’m guessing you don’t take into accounts fights at other weights even if both fighters later dropped?
Putting Bielkheden under Sanchez would clear up that section of the chart.

This is not rankings. And he is totally relevant in a beat loop. And relevant in 155 fights in the past three years.
The Loop
Remove Thomas, and the loop disappears. It would provide a clearer path.

Whaaa...??
You mean Huerta over Garcia at 155?
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
What? no, I did mean it the other way around though, Garcia over Pulver in the WEC at 145, is not on the list.
Ah. Gotcha.

Good post...
Ehh about the UFC LW picture.
It’s basically BJ (who has only beat Sherk and Stevenson as a LW in a few years) and Sherk (who has beaten everyone else, but was beaten by BJ).
Why are
Bielkheden and Liaudin at the top left?
They’ve only had the one fight against each other. The software I use just places two node clusters at the top like that. There’s no significance in the placement. It’s best to think of it as it’s own entity.

Placement is meaningless...
the “levels” represented by colors are the important thing…well…colors and obviously the lines that show the connections..etc
