25 Facts You Didn't Know About MMA

It's the trend that swept through Facebook, now MMA style! Everything in here is true, some are cool, some are funny, some are amazing.

Star-divide

1) Jason Reinhardt, who lost to Joe Lauzon at UFC 78 is 20-1 with 20 finishes, 19 in the first round.

2) Prior to BJ Penn VS Joe Stevenson, all UFC 155lb title fights went to a decision.

3) Travis Fulton has the most KO wins in MMA with 60. Gilbert Yvel is second with 30. Fulton also has 123 submission wins, most of all-time as well. Dan Severn is second with 53.

4) Chris Lytle has 15 decision losses.

5) The UFC has held 1,089 fights (as of UFN 17). 32% have ended in a submission, 38% by KO/TKO, 28% by decision. Over 600 fights, PRIDE is almost identical. 31% submission, 34% KO/TKO and 31% decision.

6) Only one fight in the history of the UFC ended in the 5th round when Ricco Rodriguez defeated Randy Couture via submission due to strikes.

7) Bas Rutten is 2-3 against Frank and Ken Shamrock combined, but 26-1-1 against everyone else.

8) Randy Couture has 19 UFC fights, 15 of them title fights. Since December 1997, only one of his UFC fights has not been for a title.

9) Prior to "Cro Cop" Mirko Filipovic's nickname was "Tiger."

10) Teila Tuli, who lost to Gerard Gordeau at UFC 1, played Kemo in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Gerard Gordeau continued the night with some of Tuli's teeth stuck in his foot. After he returned home to the Neatherlands he had to go months of treatment for fear of blood poisoning.

11) Tra Telligman has no right pectoral. He lost it in a car accident as a child.

12) Heath Herring has the most fights in the history of PRIDE.

13) Chael Sonnen ran for state legisture in Oregon. He lost. He is, however, a Real Estate Agent for John L Scott Realty

14) Tim Sylvia, Ricco Rodriguez, Wes Sims, Josh Thomson, Tiki and Pete Spratt all were on a special UFC episode of Blind Date. Frank Trigg was on kept

15) Troy Mandaloniz was the referee in the Anderson Silva/Yushin Okami fight

16) Stephan Bonnar snuck out of the Ultimate Fighter house to get some Mad Dog at a liquor store. It never made it on air.

17) Robbie Lawler VS Steve Berger was the first MMA fight to be aired on cable TV. Lawler was also in the first title fight to be on network TV.

18) UFC 78 was actually the 100th event in the company's history. UFC 100 will be the 132nd event.

19) Rampage was on Jackass teaching Ryan Dunn how to shoot for a takedown.

20) Mac Danzig was a sponsored skateboarder and is a professional photographer.

21) Jeremy Jackson's ex-wife named their son Nick after Nick Diaz, who beat Jackson right before she gave birth to Nick. Jackson went on as a last minute replacement for Diaz in The Ultimate Fighter 4.

22) Tito Ortiz's real name? Jacob Ortiz.

23) Art Jimmerson, who lost to Royce Gracie at UFC 1 when Royce mounted him, is still listed as an active fighter on the UFC website.

24) At a charity event, Bas Rutten accidently stepped on Brian Urlacher's foot. Bas apologized and Urlacher refused to accept. Bas tried to make peace but Urlacher asked Bas if "wanted to take this outside." Bas laughed and said yes. The bouncers diffused the situation and told Urlacher who Bas was. Urlacher quickly apologized.

25) And finally….Drew Fickett is in a band called cock sandwich.

Awesome!

A fun, fluffy break from all the greasing bullshit. I always wondered which event was technically their 100th.

Are you getting Sonnen mixed up with Lindland?

Or did they both run for state leg in oregon?

Sonnen/Lindland

Sonnen ran in 2004, Lindland ran in 2008. Both lost.

very interesting

I kinda wish I saw Urlacher’s face when he was informed who accidentally scuffed his shoe.

Urlacher would've been without his manhood

Has Bas actually kneed repeatedly to the balls in a street fight?

Urlacher would have needed a liver transplant.

Funny.
I don’t understand what this has to do with facebook, though.

Like a week or two ago, everyone started posting a note which had 25 facts about them in it. I just changed it to MMA Facts.

11) Tra Telligman has no right pectoral. He lost it in a car accident as a child.

I was just watching his fight with Tim Sylvia on Spike earlier today and I thought “what the fuck is wrong with his stomach?”, a couple hours later and there is the answer. Very interesting write up. Where did you get all this stuff?

by ufc4 on Feb 8, 2009 9:45 PM EST reply actions

I do a radio show about MMA and a lot of the stuff I either got from an interview (16), doing research for an interview (12, 13, 22, 23), looking at Fight Finder (1-8), others I just came across.

I’ll look for some more, I have others that weren’t as good, I’ll come up with a second list if the demand is high enough.

Thanks for the kind words

Someone should fact check a lot of this stuff; Big Nog has 21 fights in PRIDE, Heath has 17.

Not to mention how little depth some of them have. Gerard Geardau, Pat Smith, Zane Frazier and Dan Severn are listed on UFC.com’s Heavyweight page too.

by N. Rodriguez on Feb 9, 2009 12:32 AM EST reply actions

My bad on the PRIDE one. Before an interview with Herring, I had read that. That one is incorrect, I apologize.

Still, freaking great post!

Stephan Bonner snuck out to get…MD 20/20? Why?!!! lol!

Reinhardt

Bwahaha, yeah… Reinhardt is a real beater.
Opponents combined record = 59 – 79
Opponents combined record (w/o Lauzon) = 41 – 75
Opponents combined record (w/o Del Hawkins + J-Lau) = 19 – 60
Opponents combined record when they fought Reinhardt (w/o J-Lau) = 13 – 23

That includes his latest opponent who was 0-0 fighting Reinhardt, who was 19 – 1
Or his opponent before that, who was 2-5

Give me a break, this guy is seriously THE ultimate joke in MMA, worse than Shannon Ritch, worse than Manney Reyes Jr.

by galathrax on Feb 9, 2009 12:25 PM EST reply actions

Also, at the time he fought them

Only 2 opponents had a winning record, Del Hawkins + Joe Lauzon
Additionally, only 3 have winning records now: Hawkins, J-Loe, and Ray Duke

9 of his opponents were 0-0 when he fought them, including his latest opponent

by galathrax on Feb 9, 2009 12:33 PM EST up reply actions

Jason is a running joke with my friends and I. We were at UFC 78 and they announced him as 18-0 at the time (I think) and we couldn’t believe it. We looked it up and it’s just great. All the guys he fights are like 1-7 or 0-0 and Jason was their only fight.

We interviewed him and asked him why everyone he fights is a can and he said that’s just who he was given and he actually asked us for advice. Cool guy, but his record is just hilarious.

Even considering that, it is pretty crazy to have that many end in the 1st round.

It is who he was given by his own camp. He fights on MFS shows almost exclusivly. I was also at 78 and we parked right next to a van painted in support of Reinhardt. I think it was his mother or his wife or something.

I knew about Chael Sonnen being a realtor. I lived in Portland and saw a commercial for him.

I was like, “Hey, that guys a mixed martial artist!” To which my friend replied, “What’s mixed martial arts? Is that like Ultimate Fighting?”
