UFN on Spike Tonight, Showtime has What is GUARANTEED to be a Dynamite Fight

To any MMA fan that wants to see what is GUARANTEED to be a dynamite fight.

Tune in to Showtime's main event for the Darchinyan vs Arce fight.   Yes its boxing which will immediately turn some of you off...  But if you give any fight a chance I would say give this one a chance.  Its little guys but they both are completely offensive minded, hit like a truck, and like to win by attrition.  Plus, they are two of the most talented guys in any of the weight classes around them. Oh – And there is several years of bad blood brewing.

So if nothing else DVR the Showtime fights tonight you won’t be dissappointed.

I would stake my reputation as a boxing fan on this fight being fucking amazing if not an all out war while it lasts.  This could be FotY.

both events have replays at 12 am eastern, 11pm central time. i plan on watching both tonight . your right darchinyan/arce has the makings of a classic. whats the co-main for that fight?

it should be a good fight. I’d love for Arce to kick darchinyan’s ass but i have a feeling Vic’s gonna dominate him. His boxing has gotten better since that knockout loss to Donaire.

Darchinyan is my 2nd fav behind Berto…

Vic is going to destroy Arce and quick, be over by the 5th…

by Reaser on Feb 7, 2009 7:47 PM EST reply actions

not the 5th but basically a predictable fight to any true boxing fan…

Well I was thinking of Darchinyan

Reverting to his old brawling form – Instead he stuck to his new form and destroyed him by boxing. But for rounds 2-4 you saw Darchinyan starting to brawl.

true, but for those 2-4 rounds he went back to brawling mostly because it was already over then, he wanted the KO. imo at least…Arce only looked competitive in the 3rd and I still gave Vic that round…oh well, just didn’t think this fight was going to be anything special but I can see how people either bought into the hype or at least had hopes of a classic. If Arce hadn’t been ducking him for so long maybe we would have gotten a better fight if this happend 2-3 years ago…

2 or 3 years ago this would have been the fight I thought it would be

Back when Darchinyan didn’t bother boxing at all and just brawled. He’s gotten so much better since going back to his old coach its unbelievable. He is a legit challenge for Montiel or maybe even Rafeal Marquez now. I think Vazquez is too big with too much power for Darchinyan to survive. Marquez may also be but I think he’d fare better against him.

Gimme 1 Round!

I actually think Marquez is the only one on that list that Vic would have problems with, Vazquez and Darchinyan would be all time classics though, could easily do 2-3 of those fights…

by Reaser on Feb 8, 2009 3:08 PM EST up reply actions

There is another reason I think Vazquez is a worse matchup than Marquez

Since you know your boxing a bit i’ll bust it out.

Marquez is definately a fast combination puncher but his strength is straight punches which for some reason Darchinyan does alright with. Marquez could outbox him but Darchinyan could swarm him and then it becomes a more even fight.

But against Vazquez not so much… Israel’s strength is his devastating hooks. When Darchinyan got in close to negate the size difference his weakness plays right into Vazquez’s best punch. I think that a Vazquez hook would end Evil Vic’s night short.

Gimme 1 Round!

ha, nice breakdown, as I said though Vic is my 2nd fav current boxer (Berto) so I think he will win any fight.

Realistically though, I figure like you said Marquez could out box him, thats a fight where I would see Darchinyan going back to his old ways and it could cost him.

I agree with everything you said about Vazquez except that it would be a short night for Vic, I think a fight between those two could be “epic” and if they fought it’d be a must that they fight again, and if split the fights then a 3rd time. Darchinyan for anyone is tough because of his style, I think he can beat both of them or could have trouble with both, Vazquez would be the more exciting fight from a neutral fans perspective and Marquez could be the one that would make Vic’s night short…imo…

Dynamite fight? Why is it these boxing fights get so overblown by hype?

I’m an avid boxing fan, but Darchinyan basically destroyed Arce. Donaire needs a god damn shot again to KO his ass once again. Quit ducking behind Shaw.

Now that he actually boxes like he did in the amatuers

he would absolutely rape Donaire. At the time of the last fight he invited people to hit him by hanging his hands at his waist for the majority of fights and sticking his chin out as a target. He’s still open to the hook because he keeps his right hand so low but he uses movement and maintains distance alot better now. Rematch = rape. His improvement from the Donaire fight to the Mijares fight is about the same as GSP’s from the first BJ fight to the second.

I was just expecting for him to revert to brawling just to beat Arce at his own game. And he did for a couple rounds and they were great. But then he decided he’d rather rape him with technical skills. I can’t blame him and its more of a credit to him that he would stick to his gameplan which I and many others thought would go out the window after the first major exchange.

Gimme 1 Round!

he would beat Donaire now but sucks we can’t see that fight because of Gary Shaw. The one and only thing I don’t like about Vic is his promoter is Gary Shaw (who I “hated” well before he tried to ruin MMA)…

by Reaser on Feb 8, 2009 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know about “rape” Donaire. It might actually be a decent fight. Donaire had some brutally quick movement in that fight, and you’re right, Darchinyan did some stupid shit in that fight as well. I think that’s a much more exciting fight to be honest, rather than this one.
