Strikeforce April 11 Card: Nick Diaz vs Frank Shamrock Proposed for Main Event?
Showtime Rumored April 11 Card:
Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz (170lbs?)
Benji Radach vs Scott Smith
Josh Thomson vs TBA
Interesting to point out that Josh Thomson has also wanted to fight Frank Shamrock for quite some time. Via MMAJunkie:
"I'm looking for big fights," Thomson said. "I'd love to fight Ralph Gracie. I'd love to fight Frank Shamrock. I'd like to fight Eddie Alvarez. I'd like to fight those guys. And those to me, and (Joachin) Hansen, they warrant coming in off the street to get an automatic title shot -- or like a union fight or superfight."
I guess Josh Thomson's dreams came true. He now has the opportunity to fight Melendez, Masdival, Noons, Ishida, Shamrock, Diaz, Riggs, and Alvarez. These possible matchups set up Strikeforce's WW and LW classes with some very good and interesting bouts to look forward to in the future.
As for MW, most fans would want to see any combination of Frank Shamrock, Cung Le (SF MW Champion), Frank Trigg, Santiago (WVR MW Champion) and Robbie Lawler (EliteXC MW Champion).
These are good fights for Strikeforce to build up for their future shows on Showtime and CBS.

Yeah, maybe this might confirm some fans’ thoughts that Diaz is becoming the next Goodridge in that he takes so many blows ot the face that he has the worst reaction time ever now.

You start a fighter comparison with ‘takes so many blows to the face that’ and then you disappoint. Antirec’d.

You don’t understand the comparison, subo? Really?
Goodridge is now a walking punching bag who saddens most fans when he walks into any ring because he gets pummeled with combos AFTER he’s already knocked out. I feel that even though Nick Diaz is young, his demeanor to be TOUGH is going to cause him the same fate eventually. That last Noons fight was atrocious for him, hell even the damn Aina fight wasn’t a great fight for him.
I love Nick Diaz as a fighter, but he needs to seriously come in with the demeanor that I should end fights as quickly as possible.
A rematch would be ideal with Noons, and Diaz should put him away with the submission, not standing with an actual boxer who actually DODGES punches.

Is April 11 CBS or Showtime?
And if you put a comma in between the items you want tagged you get more than one tag.

Cung...
I’m interested to see what happens here. Strikeforce has a gold mine in Cung Le, mostly due to the fact that he’s starring in some movie roles this year and those are martial arts roles. Strikeforce could see an influx of new fans because when have you ever really seen an action movie martial artist ACTUALLY fight MMA. You haven’t.
A lot of people talk about “What if Jet Li fought MMA…. he’d f***ing smack MMA fighters around all day…” Obviously, he’d probably get his ass kicked, but those “What Ifs” from younger aged fans and people seeing his movies could result in an added audience and added buys if they go that route.
I always thought if Cung Le does well with his movie career, the transition back into MMA would help Strikeforce immensely. Adding Network TV deal and giving fans easy access to his matchups along with the star-studded roster they now have, we could actually be seeing a clear-cut #2 in this country.

If Cung Lee does well in movies why would he ever want to step in the cage again?

That's the rub...
That’s one thing to think about, but fighters usually don’t lose that rub to fight unless they hated it from the get go. He’ll likely want to prove his skills in the cage still.
He’s a god damn goldmine if any of those movies are even remotely successful.

I have a hard time believing he’s going to sign on to fight for a mill when he can make a mill shooting a movie and hanging out in exotic locations in a nice cushie hotel. It just wouldn’t make much sense.
There’s a reason why a guy like the rock isn’t wrestling in the WWE anymore. What’s the incentive of getting punched in the face at that point? Or fake punched..whatever.

It’s called wanting to be the best fighter in the world. Some guys have it – we’ll see about Le.

Shamrock at catchweight?
Can Frank cut below 185?
by Scott Haber on Feb 6, 2009 6:30 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Thomson said he walks around at 190, so he doesn’t see why he couldn’t go below 185.
I hope Diaz doesn’t try to make 185…LOL.

I’m sorry but is this anyone’s idea of a dream match?, because there are so many things wrong with this fight that I hope it’s just a rumor.

Its just a rumor, and if it is, Diaz and Shamrock will still be on the card, so it is all good.
