Fights to Watch in February: Antwain Britt vs Jamal Patterson
Sherdog's Tim Leidecker picks 10 fights to watch in February and I can't resist passing this one along:
Antwain Britt vs. Jamal Patterson
UWC "Man ‘O’ War," Feb. 21 -- Fairfax, Va.
East Coast promotion Ultimate Warrior Challenge -- not to be confused with a fight organization that bears the same name in England -- will put on a classic striker-versus-grappler confrontation in the co-headliner of its first show of 2009. Britt, a hard-hitting "The Ultimate Fighter" alumnus, has been on a tear since he broke his hand in season eight’s light heavyweight preliminary round. The "Juggernaut" will face arguably his toughest test to date in Patterson, a former International Fight League title contender. Patterson will make his first appearance since he lost to Vladimir Matyushenko in April.
Disclosure: I'm damn proud to be doing PR for the UWC.

I can’t wait for this show. Luke, I’ll have VIP tickets so I can see your huge mammalian head.
I’m so glad to see MMA evolving in the DMV region.
BTW Luke, keep doing your thing on MMA nation, It’s a breath of fresh air to the area.(except for the idiots who call the show and couldn’t even name Eastons nickname)
Antwain Britt, TUF Alumnus? Can you really call him that after the poor guy broke his hand during the elimination bouts?
Had he not suffered that injury though, I’m pretty sure he would have won TUF. The guy is a beast.

Guys
Are you all involved with the UWC? How did those of you involved get hooked up with them?
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
I’ll let Nate speak for himself, but only he and I are involved. No one else on staff has anything to do with them.
I got into it because I was originally doing commentary for MMAC as they held the first ever pro MMA event in DC (main event: Schembri vs. Rahnavardi). One of the folks who put that show together was working with UWC. MMAC was great, but they were having trouble getting investors and I really wanted to keep the momentum of MMA in DC going. I went to a UWC show and was impressed with what they were doing, so I told the guy I knew I was interested in contributing. Eventually after some talks they brought me on as color commentator. Now I do all sorts of consulting for them and that’s kinda sort how Nate got involved.
Cool.
I was just asking out of interest sake – not to skewer you for bias or anything like that. I’d seen your (Luke’s) disclaimer’s before but I think this was the first I’d seen from Nate.
I think it’s pretty cool to have guys who run this site that are not only supremely interested in the sport but involved at a grassroots level. I think it probably helps to bring an even better perspective as you’re involved “behind the scenes” in some sort of aspect.
Keep up the good work, I hope to catch the event (I think you said they’re streaming it on Sherdog?) and see what they have to offer.

thanks man
For the record, I posted a disclaimer when I signed on and on every UWC post I’ve done since.
I think you’ll be very pleased by the fights. I was blown away by the action at their October event. Of course having cage side seats was very very cool!
