I’m afraid that poster may be the most exciting thing about the main event.

Some interesting matches on this card. Miller/Maynard, Vera, Grove/Day, Hammil/Munoz.

Can’t wait for GG vs Carwin!

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

I’m always hyped to see Rampage, especially now that he’s gotten his wolf on! lol Probably go to Hooters for this one. Agreed about GG vs Carwin, we get to see if Carwin is the real deal here.

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

Agree completely. I like watching rampage, but I also like really good fights. unfortunately, I think Rampage has little trouble with Jardine. So go bet your house on Jardine, lol.

UFC 96 – Exciting Poster

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 3, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

This card will really test the UFC Brand power.
I predict 400K PPV buys tops.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 3, 2009 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

errr… didn’t 93 test their brand power?

overseas event
played in the afternoon
no hype for it
no countdown
very weak card
no super headliner for the casuals…

still drew 300,000 right???

by dbcb on Feb 3, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

275k was the early, early, number from Meltzer. And recently, most of his estimates end up coming down over time.

by smoogy on Feb 3, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

Yup, and Rampage vs Jardine is a worse main event than 93, although it is a tough tough call.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 3, 2009 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

Rampage gets a big pop from freiends of mine that are casual fans.

by szucconi on Feb 3, 2009 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree with this. Hendo/Franklin is a better matchup in terms of division placement and the history of the matchup, but I think Rampage is a much much bigger star than either. I’m guessing this gets 425k buys.

by Michaelthebox on Feb 3, 2009 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

Or test Rampage’s drawing power, as well.

And the poster for UFC 95.

It’s one hell of a free event. I’m looking forward to seeing Sanchez at lightweight. I always enjoy watching Maia. And Marquardt v. Gouveia is intriguing.

by J. B. Maddox on Feb 3, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

Yup, definitely 3 solid match ups for the UFC.
I will probably be more intersted in Maiai vs Sonnen though.

UFC 95: It could be worse, it could be Affliction.

by iiowyn on Feb 3, 2009 4:33 PM EST up reply actions

Ha! Afflictions HDNet portioni of the PPV rivals this card, and that had some really good fights.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 3, 2009 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry, i was just using your template:

UFC ##: <insert negative statement about the UFC fighters>

by iiowyn on Feb 3, 2009 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

I’m interested in Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane Carwin. Gonzaga vs Mir & Carwin vs Brock makes more sense to me, so if mir win I hope those will be the next match up. Even if Jackson vs jardine makes little sense, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a really good event.

by spectaa on Feb 3, 2009 2:58 PM EST reply actions

This poster breaks the mold of UFC posters. They are spending more on production these days and it is noticable.

by szucconi on Feb 3, 2009 3:04 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

Hopefully by the time UFC 100 rolls around they have a new intro to the PPV’s. Maybe a white canvas for the Octagon too. It just looks nicer/ cleaner IMO. I also wondered why they never do any live shots of the beautiful Las Vegas strip during the shows when they’re there? They could do so many more small things like that, that would make it even more sweet but I guess they’re on a budget.

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I’d probably be more apt to spend money on a PPV if I knew I was going to get a shot of the strip….

by adamdd on Feb 3, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

It’d just be better if the ring girls were naked!

by adamdd on Feb 3, 2009 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Naked Ring girls would be nice too. Of course thats just a fantasy, but what about skimpier outfitts? UFC Thongs FTW!!

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Make sure to specify UFC Ring Girl Thongs.

by iiowyn on Feb 3, 2009 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

lol

really

i laughed out loud

im not impressed with your performance

by troy145 on Feb 3, 2009 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

Oh yeah

I guess the ring girls in thongs would be nice too.

O_O What?

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

lol Ahh you know what I mean. It would just have an overall better feel. Like on the Affliction DoR PPV they kept showing shots of outside the Honda Center.

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

PRIDE 33 had a really cool intro like that.

Maia s Sonnen is like tossing a hungery wolf a paralyzed lamb

but i am calling it right now aaron riley over shane nelson by high kick ko

Nice poster. Jardine is one mean-looking lawn gnome.

Im glad I will be spending my money at the Arnolds competing rather than walking across the street to drop dime on this card.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Feb 3, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions

Well, Rashad has to get a thorough scouting report of Rampage somehwere?

Anyone else think that Rashad owes a disproportional amount of thanks to having Jardine in his camp to fight all the tough LHWs before he has to?

by Razreshat on Feb 3, 2009 3:22 PM EST reply actions

Does anybody think this won't end with Jardine KTFO?

Silva gave Jardine a brutal knockout, and Rampage gave Silva a brutal knockout, so I expect Jardine will receive a career-ending, scary knockout to end this one.

by thetakeover on Feb 3, 2009 3:59 PM EST reply actions

Jardine will get KO'd.

His fights usually end with his opponent getting KO’d or more likely himself getting KO’d. I figure it’ll be more of the same for Jardine. Silva nearly killed him. I expect Rampage to decapitate him.

by pud333 on Feb 3, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions

Rampage by way of wolf-on!

by xFenixKnightx on Feb 3, 2009 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

I'm picking Jardine by KO...

Why are y’all looking at me like that???

by EnsignFrog on Feb 3, 2009 5:43 PM EST up reply actions

Because you have a karate frog as your avatar.

by iiowyn on Feb 3, 2009 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

I’m looking forward to this card. Maybe not the best ever, but there’s still some intriguing stuff on there.

Rampage vs. Jardine could be interesting. Jardine is just so hit or miss. Sometimes he gets lit up quickly (Houston, Silva), sometimes his unorthodox style can really create difficulties for opponents (Liddell).

Really looking forward to Gonzaga/Carwin. I’m a big Carwin mark, so I’m hoping he comes out and gets a big time signature win to elevate himself into the spotlight in the HW division. He’s got the potential to really be a beast, but they’ve given him nobody of any substance so far. So I’m looking forward to him against a legitimately dangerous opponent.

Brown vs. Sell could be a good fight — not really marquee or anything, but it could be a good matchup.

Jason Brilz has a real future, too, so I’m looking forward to seeing him in action again. I saw him live at the Omaha fight night and he’s a local guy, so that one intrigues me.

Always love to watch the Barncat fight.

Not the greatest card ever, but there’s plenty of reason to tune in for it.

I am indescribably happy that the UFC seems to have done away with the ridiculous event names. So happy.

by Chris Nelson on Feb 3, 2009 4:44 PM EST reply actions

Have they?

Or are they just adding it later? Hope this is true as well! Enough with the WWE style stuff Dana…
