Jon Jones: Confusing the hell out of me

Well I think it's pretty much established at this point that Jon Jones has a pretty ridiculous list of moves he's willing to break out during a fight.  And just when I thought I was getting the hang of this MMA thing, he pulls out something I've never heard of.  So in the interest of increasing my knowledge base I have a question for the smart people here at BE.

What is a "Wing Chun knee kick"?

I have a pretty good understanding of what Wing Chun is thanks to wikipedia but the internet hasn't been as helpful in explaining the move itself.  Any help is appreciated.

Uh shit

That ones over my head in terms of Wing Chun knowledge. I’m guessing a kick where the knee ends up landing?

I wish I knew!
Wing chun is a traditional martial art style that Bruce Lee came out of. It focuses on close in strikes — often thrown while in contact with the limbs of the opponent.
It was way huge in the late 1980s/early 1990s and was a bitter enemy of BJJ and MMA at the beginning. I have no idea where Jones is getting these moves. I suspect he’s seen them in movies.
Dave Herman is another guy who’s very athetic and appears to be improvising these crazy kicks and TMA moves with no background or training in those disciplines.

Rogan was talking about the stomp-kick thing Jones threw at Bonnar’s knee. Basically, you bring your knee up and to the outside, then stomp down with your heel toward the top of your opponents knee. It’s similar to a particular savate kick that I can’t remember the name of too.

That’s exactly it.

Ricker, did you get the phrase from Fightlinker radio?

"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."

I saw “wing chun knee kick” on the Fightlinker website. Rogan also mentioned “wing chun” right after Jones threw the kick.

So if this is the move, is the intent to injure the knee or just knock the guy off balance?

The savate kick is a coup de pied bas. It’s similar, except that you don’t bend your knee and stomp down. Jones threw more of a stomp kick—I know Bruce Lee references such a kick for JKD, so I’d go with what these guys are saying about the wing chun.

JKD is where I used it, although we also used the coup de pied bas (thanks for that, by the way). They’re both good kicks to unbalance your opponent, but from different distances.
