Randy Couture Interview: Still Wants to Fight Fedor, Lesnar

NEW Randy Couture Interview: Fedor now Possible!! - Wants Brock Also

Big News. Randy talks about Standing with Mirko and desire to fight Fedor.

DreamFighters.com: It has been relased that Fedor is going to be in talks with the UFC to fight Brock. Do you have any desire to possibly fight Fedor if he comes to the UFC?

Randy Couture: Absolutely. That’s been sort of my dream match-up for a number of years now so if the opportunity arose I’d be all over it.

So basically there is nothing to announce

& nothing but people talking & rumors about everything. Very informative!

Is there anyone here that, in light of Couture-Lesnar, thinks Couture-Fedor would be anything other than sanctioned murder? If Brock has no chance in hell against Fedor (which seems to be the prevailing sentiment around here), what chance does Randy have?

At this point there is really not many heavyweights

I give a chance against Fedor.

I honestly think more Light Heavyweights have a chance, most of them are not that much smaller than him and it is a much more competitive division.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

The only guy I’d give a chance is the newly bulked up Overeem, but only because of his length and size. If Fedor got him to the ground, which is likely, it’d be over.

Brock with some more experience I think would have a shot as well, just due to physical athleticism and his learning ability.

I think Fedor buzzsaws Couture in one round quite easily. The massive problem that many people overlook is that Fedor’s transition speed is unfathomable at Heavyweight. It’s ridiculous. And his looping overhands, while not technically correct, are unbelievably quick. The guy is on another level, still.

I understand Randy wanting to test himself against the best,

but Fedor would destroy him. Randy is one of my favorite fighters & I would hate for one of his last fights to be getting killed again.

Screw it, I’ll say it: I think Couture could do it. Not that I think the percentage is high, but I get the impression that my percentage is higher than many posting here, including Leland. I’m a bit of a Couture fanboy, but I think a couple things bode well for Couture: 1) Nobody can use the cage better than Randy Couture and Fedor would be a complete neophyte in comparison and 2) Randy seems to be very, very motivated for this fight, while Fedor seems less so.

Neither of these points are game breakers by any means but, I can seem them having an effect.

No one is a bigger Randy fan than me,

but this is tough to see a way for him to beat Fedor. I just do not want to see him getting killed (again) in one of the last fights of his career.

I look at every fight analytically and by their styles. I just don’t see how Randy is going to manhandle Fedor in the fence at all. He isn’t going to KO Fedor, and he isn’t going to submit him. Fedor has taken on a lot of wrestlers in his day as well, and I think it’d be very tough for him to win.

On the flipside of that assessment, Fedor has multiple ways to win, which doesn’t necessarily mean he can do it, but he has a lot of different ways. I think his surprising speed in the transition game on the floor is something you have to feel first hand, and when you do, it’s too late. Nearly all these guys he’s sub’d are in awe of how in the hell he did it. Randy could be caught in that aspect, but Randy’s strength usually gets him out of those situations.

I don’t know… I’m not the biggest Couture fan in the world, but I respect how he fights. I feel like Fedor is so deceptively explosive, it’s just unimaginable that Randy can do it.

Now, do I think Randy can beat Lesnar? Yes, yes I do.

I think it’s very possible Randy could be successful up against the fence. Randy is real amazing in the clinch, the fact that he was able to control Brock Lesnar there speaks volumes. Against a guy his own size he can do a lot of damage. I think a situation in which he gets Fedor against the cage and cuts him with elbows is quite possible. I also think it’s quite likely that from the clinch Randy would be able to move to a high crotch lift and slam Fedor. Once it’s on the ground, if Randy is on top, who knows what happens?

I would say Fedor wins this fight 19 out of 20 times, but I still really want to see it. Isn’t that the whole appeal of Randy Couture? To see if he can do it that one time? If we’re not going to give Fedor fights that he is heavily likely to win, the guy is never fighting again. I do think Couture could do it, and that is enough to make me want to see it.

My thoughts exactly, save for the fact that I would probably go so far as 17 of 20. If I’ve had a couple drinks, 16.

You're begging for trouble with this
If we’re not going to give Fedor fights that he is heavily likely to win, the guy is never fighting again.

But I completely agree.

I just do not understand the point of this post.

Every person that is an MMA fan knows that Randy has wanted Fedor for years & obviously he would like the chance to avenge his loss against Brock. This just seems like a waste of time.

Breaking News-Dana White is the President of the UFC & says FUCK a lot!

Yeah, you might consider changing the title of the post. This isn’t new info and the Fedor fight still isn’t possible.

warsilva, you really better stop with the misleading titles. You did the exact same thing with your Kharitonov post.

Nogueira hasn’t responded yet, but it’s likely he will unless he’s hurt.
