Report: Penn moving ahead with formal complaint

Josh Gross is all over the latest:

After reportedly deciding to shelve a complaint against UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, it appears B.J. Penn and his representatives have had a change of heart.

Penn's trainer, Rudy Valentino, told SI.com by text message that Penn has decided to move forth in filing a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission alleging Georges St. Pierre's corner knowingly and illegally used Vaseline on his body to gain an unfair advantage Saturday night.

"Lawyers for B.J. are writting (sic) a complaint with the commission," Valentino said. "I just spoke to J.D. and B.J. a few minutes ago. They feel they have ations (sic)."

This story appears to have some legs.

If this comment section even starts to get out of hand, it will be shut down.

I hope this isn't true.

I can’t imagine what remedy they would seek. The commission witnessed the acts in question, stopped them, and rectified them. It was within their right to pause the fight to further address it, or deduct a point, or invalidate the result, or fine the guilty party.

I think it’s fine to address the rule (which Kierkegaard posted earlier), reprimand or ban the cornerman in question and possibly specifically demarcate Vaseline to an impartial employee of the state. But GSP is the Welterweight Champion, and at this point, I don’t even think BJ would want a rematch. He knows what would happen, greased up or not.

I think you underestimate where a lot of Penn fans are going with this. I’m sure a lot of fans will somehow suggest that the grease was the total reason why BJ lost.

It depends on what Penn’s camp is after, if they are looking for a formal invetigation and punishment for those involved they yea I can see that, if they are looking to get the results overturned or to get a rematch then I think it hurts them as much as GSP’s camp.

If I was GSP, I would just put it out there that BJ can get a rematch any time any place. If BJ wants to get his ass handed to him again, he can do that again. The Vaseline had NOTHING to do with BJ’s loss. It was his cardio that got him yet AGAIN.

Glad to see someone else realizing it was Penn’s cardio, and not just the weight difference. Not that weight didn’t matter, but BJ’s cardio sucked.

Can’t wait to see BJ lose another one to GSP, he will be the first ever fighter to lose 3 times to a guy and only have fought him twice.
