Classic Fight of the Week #1: Hellboy vs. Uno

Hansen-vs-uno_medium

Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen
(then 9-2-1; now 19-7-1)
vs.
Caol Uno

(then 17-7-4; now 25-11-4)

K-1 Hero's 1
March 26, 2005
Saitama Super Arena
Saitama, Japan

I upped this video to YouTube with hopes of starting this (totally unofficial) little feature back in October, but some months went by and I never found an opportune time to post it. Neither man has fought since last July's DREAM.5 show, and Hansen pulled out of his NYE fight with "JZ" Cavalcante at the 11th hour with a mysterious head injury. But this week came the news that Uno has returned to the UFC and could face Spencer Fisher at UFC 99 in Germany, and I figure it's better late than never.

So yeah, Classic Fight of the Week: operating under the assumption that a good number of BE readers haven't seen the bout in question* - and since I'm admittedly no Fight Professor nor Mastermind - when it comes to these posts, I'll refrain from comment, stick to chopping and upping the vids, and leave the discussion to all you mob. We're starting off with a bout of fairly recent vintage, for no other reason than that it's one of my favorites. From the first event of the sorely missed K-1 Hero's, this one features two active MMA legends, multiple cartwheel guard pass attempts, and a stunning finish.

And if anyone's got a suggestion for a better site to upload streaming video to, or recommendations/requests for featured fights, let me know.

I didn’t put it in the post in case anyone might construe it as a spoiler, but Hansen is #5 and Uno #17 in BE’s February Lightweight Meta-Rankings.

This is a very beautiful fight with an excellent climax.

Hansen’s constantly active guard, the back and forth transitions, and the end….

stuff like this makes me pissed off I didn’t get into MMA sooner. Simply amazing.
