Karo changing his tune?
from Larry Csonka on 411mania
It seems that Karo Parisyan is throwing himself on the mercy of the NSAC now. Previously, he stated that he told them prior to his fight about the "pain pills" he was taking and they better not do anything to screw up his future fights. Now he is basically saying "please, please do not take my money away" and that seems to be his only response. If history tells us anything about how these failed tests are typically dealt with, we should probably look for Karo to be suspended in about a month and probably for a year. For me personally, I have really not enjoyed any of his previous performances and it truly seems like he needs some time off to concentrate on his personal issues and maybe get his mind right so he can focus on his fighting career.
What does Karo have to say about his failed drug test?
Karo Parisyan briefly met with the Nevada State Athletic Commission about his failed drug test after his UFC 94 bout, for the banned substances hydrocodone, hydromorphone and oxymorphone. Parisyan appeared briefly met with the commission, but due to time constraints and a full slate of things to cover, stated that they would not rule until next month on a possible punishment. Parisyan showed up to the meeting on his own.
Parisyan stated the following, regarding his possible punishment…
"I'm just going to tell them, 'Listen, I'm sorry,' I had a prescription for one pain pill; the other I didn't have a prescription for. I have a very high resistance to pain pills, and I took some. I'm sorry.
This is the only way I have to support my family. If I don't fight, I'm going to be homeless by the end of the year. I'm going to try to get married in August. If I don't fight and I get fined, my entire year -- everything I was supposed to do -- will just go down the toilet. Between my marriage and my house, I'll lose everything if you take my money away. So I beg God and I'm begging you guys, please don't do that to me.'"

I’m not trying to judge him here…but that is what some people call “junkie talk”

Ugh, this may sound harsh, but that is a pathetic quote coming from not only a mixed martial artist but a grown ass man. It’s unfair to bring his marriage or his family into this; the NSAC isn’t doing anything to anyone except punishing Karo for not following the clearly defined rules which he knowingly violated. No one made him take those non-prescribed pills. I have compassion for whatever mental illness he’s struggling with right now, but whatever comes next he brought upon himself.

Exactly...
that’s the point of fines/suspensions. They’re supposed to hit you hard. They exist to get you to NOT do what you did to get the fine/suspension in the first place.

if his marriage ends because he’s not making any money he didn’t marry the right person IMO..

He wasn't going to be a fighter forever
he may need to make preparation on a post-fight life so to suggest that he will end homeless, means he needs some serious readjusting financially in addition to all of his other problems.

Painkillers are expensive. Maybe he can get a deal like the one kid did… 100k salary, room, board and training but you give up 1/2 of your purse for 7 years. Or maybe he’s washed up at 25…

Stay classy BE, anyway it sounds like Karo’s personal problems are even worse than i’ve heard about this is really turning to be a horrible year for him and his fans. Hopefully he can start getting his stuff together more during his time off because regardless of the haters when he’s on his game there are few WW’s who can even touch him.

You get a high resistance to pain pills by taking them for long periods of time.
Karo, you screwed up. I wish you well, please get some help.

I don’t want to see anyone, including Karo, reduced to ruin because of a mistake. But at the same time, I wonder how much something like this can be classified as a “mistake”. He’s obviously aware that he took a non-prescription pain killer, and he’s revealing a calculated intent to do so. He clearly intended to break the rules.
Shit, this is one of those situations where it feels like no matter how it plays out, no one will win. Let Karo off easy = undermine the rules of the sport and risk Karo not realizing the seriousness of his infraction. Punish Karo fully = possibly destroy the career of a young, talented martial artist and look like hearless douche bags.

Eh, Karo comes across as a bit of a whiny douche bag himself, so I don’t think that is really an issue. Bro.
