*RUMOR* Affliction 3: Fedor vs Barnett Set For June

Affliction_logo_medium_medium_medium

Affliction 3
Date: June, 2009
Place: Honda Center in Anaheim

Main Event:
Fedor Emelienenko vs Josh Barnett

Possible Matchups:
Vitor Belfort vs Gegard Mousasi @ 205

Possible Participants:
Gegard Mousasi
Fabricio Werdum
Andrei Arlovski
Tim Sylvia
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic
Paul Buentello
Jay Hieron
Renato “Babalu” Sobral
Vitor Belfort
L.C. Davis
Chris Horodecki
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Gilbert Yvel
Tito Ortiz
Ricardo Arona

Although the venue has not been confirmed, it makes perfect sense for Affliction to return to the Honda Center, where they've had success in their past 2 events. It also helps that now Affliction has been granted a promoters license by the CSAC.

Affliction Entertainment, the muscle behind "Banned" and "Day of Reckoning," was permanently granted the ability to act as the "promoter of record" for its California based shows. Until Tuesday, the company had used the promoter's license of veteran boxing and MMA promoter Roy Englebrecht.

Clifton Chason, CEO of Affliction Entertainment, attended the meeting and was very positive about his company's future. He endorsed a July return for the upstart MMA show, saying "it's a date that's worked for us in the past," and said the company was in the midst of an aggressive expansion of their clothing line.

I'd order this card

If they added Arlovski-Cro Cop or Mousasi-Vitor

Those are the fights that fans want to see, but Mousasi is fighting at LHW I believe, so he could fight Babalu, Lil Nog, or Soko, perhaps.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, they could do a Vitor vs Mousasi at LHW, since both Vitor and Mousasi want to move up in weight, so that looks like it may take place in Affliction 3.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

Yup, it looks like Vitor vs Mousasi @ LHW is the proposed match up.

Thanks for tricking me into reading a total non-story.

What rumor?

You think it would be a good idea? Real good..

Ha

You don’t have a source, or give any indication how this is in the works. You named a bunch of fighters and retreaded info about Affliction getting a promoters license. Here’s a rumor: UFC to do show in Vegas. Possibly in September. Brock vs. Randy II, Chuck, Maia, Thiago Silva, Fitch.

Hey, it’s a rumor..

Thanks for reading though.

Info you know seems to equal nothing at all new though. It’s all old information and old rumors and and a bit of fan booking.

I can't wait til....

there’s an Affliction event that is not Fedor vs. _. In any case Fedor vs barnett was a given. No shock they are putting them together for the next event

by Discman2 on Feb 17, 2009 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, except for all the people that said Barnett doesn’t want to fight Fedor, etc.

There is the interesting aspect that Fedor is talking to Dana about fighting Lesnar in June, but there is NO CHANCE of that happening since he is fighting Mir.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

Hm...

Fedor is talking to Dana is June. He’s not going to meet him and Brock in a parking lot.

Im an

Affliction fan! Yeah I said that shit! lol The 1st two shows were great so I dont see why anyone wouldn’t like them.

Babalu vs Ortiz and Mousasi vs Lil Nog would be nice!!!!

There are a ton of matchups here that would be incredible.

Babalu vs Lil Nog or Ortiz would absolutely be a greath LHW fight.
They could even do a revenge match of Lil Nog vs Soko.

But I will believe fedor fighting barnett when I see them both in the ring together.

Oh and if they do fight, Fedor by brutal KO within like 2 mins.

by Bigperm on Feb 17, 2009 4:15 PM EST reply actions

For some reason, I don’t think Fedor would KO Barnett.
I think he would take him to the ground and GnP and submit him.

Remeber, Fedor beats you at your own game.
It would be interesting seeing someone do that to Barnett, which no one really has.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

Good Use of the “Rumor” clause although you missed completing the BE front page trifecta: Rumor + Affliction + Out of Business

If we are going to play the fight speculation game than lets get it on.
Fedor vs Barnett (It’s going to happen, both guys will take the money cause Fedor isn’t getting $1 million for Vitor)

LHW Fights
Pick a fight or two between Vitor, Mousasi, Babalu and Lil Nog. I don’t expect Tito to be healthy but there is also a chance Affliction gets Strikeforce to throw in a MW to fight Vitor if they loan out Hieron for Shields.

Cro Cop vs Arlovski would be great, two popular HW strikers. I can see Cro Cop going Affliction because the ring suits his style best, but UFC and Strikeforce probably have the same chance.

Expect a match for Werdum . . . maybe Buentello, Yvel or Matyushenko or M-1 might come up with someone.

Horodecki vs Lauzon Attempt III

Also any who emerges with a a good rep from the M-1 Global Challenge

by bignerd on Feb 17, 2009 4:32 PM EST reply actions

Hahaha. Thats what I missed!
:)

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

Some great possibilities at LHW. Yes I said great.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

Absolutely, couldn’t agree more.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 4:50 PM EST up reply actions

It would be nice to see if Affliction can get Arona back in the Ring as well.
They were in talks just a few months ago. That would make their LHW roster stacked outside of the UFC.

Vitor Belfort
Tito Ortiz
Ricardo Arona
Babalu
Lil Nog
Mike Whitehead
Gerard Mousasi
Vladimir Matyushenko
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

This is if Ortiz and Arona sign with Affliction, although even without them, the division is still very very talented.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 5:12 PM EST up reply actions

Hmm...

All I see is Vitor, Babalu and Lil Nog. Sokou (who I am a huge fan of) has been terrible, Vlad is alright, Whitehead sucks ass, Young Vagabond has neither fought at 205 nor in Affliction and the others are hopeful speculation.

Huh?

Only 2 are speculation. Mousasi is fighting for Affliciton on their next show.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

Nevermind Young Vagabond; you're speculating that Affliction is even HAVING a next show

…or when. Or where. And those are a big two to speculate on. You can’t just shrug along that sort of conjecture when you’re be-boppin around other threads talking about how the UFC isn’t anywhere near signing Schilt, Overeem, Kid, Caol and co. Add those two to UFC’s 205 division and see what that does. Your heavy handedness with all things non-Zuffa needs to be tempered. The fact remains, the 205 division in Affliction is very weak right now and comparing it to that of the UFC is humiliating. I wouldn’t be championing it, in it’s present form, under any circumstances. Yeah, there are interesting match ups. But shit, if you don’t have those, you don’t have a division.

Hahaha. Angry post much?

Let me point out a few things that are wrong in your post:

You can’t just shrug along that sort of conjecture when you’re be-boppin around other threads talking about how the UFC isn’t anywhere near signing Schilt, Overeem, Kid, Caol and co.

What I said was that there are many rumored foreign fighters that the UFC has shown interest in, but none have officially signed yet, Uno now being the exception.

The fact remains, the 205 division in Affliction is very weak right now and comparing it to that of the UFC is humiliating.

Where did I ever say the Affliciton LHW division is comparable to the UFC? I said it is the best LHW division outside of the UFC.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 17, 2009 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

That would make their LHW roster stacked outside of the UFC.

Perhaps saying “the most stacked” rather than indicating that it is stacked and not the UFC.

Also, try not to decipher my mood through type. I’m a real sweetheart, honest.

How about Ishii? White said they have an agreement in place. I realize he may never actually fight in the UFC but he is signed.

by ufc4 on Feb 17, 2009 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

I think folks were saying that was probably just a deal that entered him into a period of exclusive contract negotiations with the UFC, not a fight contract.

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/2/10/755206/satoshi-ishii-should-liste

Apparently, Ishii has already signed with the UFC but is having second thoughts because of the amount of money he’s being offered by other promotions. As reported by MMA Weekly, Dana White makes it clear that he has Ishii’s best interests at heart:

“Well, yeah, I’m going to hold on to him, I’ve got a contract with him,” White began. "But if he comes back and tells me I want to take this lottery ticket, I’ll give it to him. He needs to decide what he wants to do with his life. Just because I have a contract with him, I’m not going to try to tell him what he should do with his life. I’ve sat down and I’ve talked to him for hours on what I think he should do with his career. Now it’s up to him. You can’t force anybody to be a mixed martial arts fighter, they have to want to do it.

Sounds like a fight contract to me.

by ufc4 on Feb 17, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

A contract that Dana doesn’t want to hold him accountable to since Dana himself said that Ishii doesn’t know what he wants. Ishii could still sign with DREAM, Sengoku, and/or Affliction.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 18, 2009 4:24 AM EST up reply actions

And although you say someone like Sokou has been terrible, interesing matchups can still be made, like having a rematch with Lil Nog, since Sokou is the last person to KTFO.

Yes, there are interesting matchups for Soko, unfortunately they only exist in kickboxing tourneys and not MMA.

I’ll absolutely order the next affliction card. The last one was so awesome, and there’s something about the ring that makes the action a little more fast paced or something. There’s less pinning and dancing around. Eegadz I wish that Affliction could pull this off.

Here’s the real news:

While attencio and co is deliberating on whether to even HAVE a third show… Finkie and Co are already trying to renegotiate and fuck Affliction.

What’s apparent here is how MMAsupremacy tries to inject affliction non-stories to keep them in the conversation. Here’s a little business advice… you’d be better off handing out flyers on your local street corner if you really want to help affliction.

If you have a job and do your shilling on your bosses dime go to a forum where they dont know anything about Affliction or MMA and segway into introducing Affliction to them.

Go make friends and get them into Affliction. These shallow attempts do nothing for your cause.

They haven’t exactly booked a date for a third show – and, as they’ve shown in the past, a booked event does not equal a 100% for sure to happen event. You cannot bleed that kind of money over two PPV’s and not have one foot in the grave.

I dont post rumors or “fantasies” like this…

Someone added the word “rumor” to my post. Why do you think Fedor is meeting with Dana soon?

Oh right… maybe affliction isnt having the third show after all… maybe they are in fact trying to negotiate out of the business. hmm… 2 plus 2 might just equal 4 :)

But it’s better to talk about rumors that are actually rumors, not a poster’s imagination.

Usually a rumor comes out because someone who knows something hears something. There’s a huge difference between an actual rumor, and someone’s complete speculation.

This is complete speculation.

Also, what clasifies a rumor? Something with a source? LOL

by MMASuPreMaCy on Feb 18, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

There is no actual rumor here (besides the one you are starting).

All you did was take an old rumor, that Affliction is going to have a show in June, and you listed everyone on Affliction’s roster plus some top fighters not under contract to the UFC, that’s not a rumor, that’s making shit up.

Rumors usually have some sort of source. You haven’t proven at all that you are a reliable one, since you hardly have any new information.

3 Days Later Josh Gross Reports It

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/mma/02/20/fedor-barnett/index.html

Fedor Emelianenko could return to the ring in June against Josh Barnett, sources close to the Russian heavyweight champion and his promoters, Affliction Entertainment and M-1 Global, tell SI.com.

The anticipated bout, which would put Emelianenko’s WAMMA belt on the line for a second time, is the preferred choice for Affliction and its partners — Golden Boy Promotions, Trump Entertainment, and M-1 — as they gear up for a third event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
