Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs. Brandon Wolff at UFC 98
MMA Hawaii is reporting that UFC welterweights Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Brandon Wolff will clash at UFC 98 in Las Vegas on May 23rd.
Brandon has confirmed with us this morning, that he will be facing cageforce champion and shooto veteran, Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-3-0) on May 23, 2009 at UFC 98 which will be held in Las Vegas.
Yoshida and Wolff both last competed at the UFC Fights for The Troops event back in December where both men also suffered losses. Yoshida suffered a brutal KO at the hand(s) of Josh Koscheck, while Wolff in his UFC debut, was the victim of a vicious muay thai clinic from Ben Saunders that left him TKO'd less than two minutes into the first round.
Yoshida (1-1 UFC) was impressive in his debut, submitting The Artist Formerly Known as Jon Koppenhaver (see: Machine, War) at UFC 84. He was then scheduled to take on fellow judoka Karo Parisyan at UFC 88, but was left without an opponent when Parisyan pulled out due to injury the day before the fight. Training at the Yellow Mans gym in Tokyo, "Zenko" will look to get himself back on the winning track in May.
Wolff (7-3, 0-1 UFC) is a Hawaiian native and coach at the MMAD gym on Oahu. He has primarily competed for Hawaiian promotions like Rumble on the Rock and X-1, but also has fought on Elite XC and WEC cards.

Good
I was hoping they’d give Yoshida another shot and I think this is a W for him.

Oh, no doubt
Didn’t think there was any way he’d be cut on account of the Koscheck fight.

Too bad head butts are not allowed any more.

Yeah, I think Yoshida wins this matchup. While the Koscheck knockout definitely was the product of a poor gameplan by Yoshida and well-crafted gameplan by Koscheck, Yoshida still has good judo to set up brutalizing ground and pound, and he uses the fence much better than many fighters I’ve seen in the Octagon.

I know way too little about Wolff to pick this fight yet – all I currently know about him is Jeet Kune Do fucks him up something fierce, and Yoshida doesn’t do that.

Even though I think this is a victory for Yoshida, I hope the brutal knockout loss to Koscheck hasn’t scarred him mentally. :/

Probably – it’s almost like they’re feeding these guys to each other, in that Yoshida was hyped and hasn’t delivered and Wolff got kneed in the head about 50 times by a guy that lost on TUF.

Saunders sure is 3-0 in the UFC.

Dan Barrera (whom he also beat in the house), Ryan Drew Thomas (?) and Wolff. He’s due for a test – or a sacrifice at the altar of Koscheck, now that Karo’s gone for a minute.

They'll probably reschedule the fight with Hazzlett
so that will be a big test for him. I think Saunders showed a ton of potential on the show and is one of the few guys from that season who might have a career in the UFC.
