UFC 94 payroll less the Affliction’s Andrei Arlovski show money = insane.

It’s still less if you add in all the fight night bonuses. I’m sure the ppv % pay will be huge for this event though.

Add in PPV share and this main event probably cost more than Affliction’s.

PPV share is pretty much extra money that doesn’t cost the UFC anything without them making even more.

If it’s coming out of their event profits then it is costing them money.

Yep...
true…that is money that the UFC would get that goes to someone else instead.

Bonnar is making a lot less than I thought.

Dan Cramer, who was fighting in his first pro fight last night, made twice as much as John Howard who is a 15-fight veteran. I don’t know if Cramer’s stint on TUF had anything to do with that, but it seems pretty ridiculous.
Then again, Howard got a 65K fight-of-the-night bonus, but his base should at least be equal to a guy making his pro debut.

The reason a lot of guys sign with UFC...
Without any name basis is for the potential bonuses they could receive. What he should be getting paid relative to another fighter is pointless… He negotiated a contract, and believes that his skill will offer him more opportunity to make bonuses, and perform to the ability that his fights may be shown, and he gets extra sponsorship dollars being associated with the number 1 name in MMA, which is the UFC>

I’m sure it had to do with TUF contracts. I’m glad he was the only guy at the bottom and that he got that big bonus, it is a sign that pay is getting better at least.

Lets put things into context here
Fighters in the UFC gets salary + sponsorship money, and headliners get PPV %
Fighters in Affliction gets salary (which includes Affliction sponsorship money, everyone wears Affliction)
We should compare apples to apples
Thoughts on UFC 94:
1. Wow on GSP. This guy is on another level with Greg Jackson’s camp. Perhaps I was blinded by Penn’s talent, but GSP’s conditioning and strength is at another level here. He’ s like the modern day Matt Hughes with unstoppable ground and pound. At least Penn gets his wake up call and stay in the LW division where he belongs so he can dominate that division. Game planning, conditioning, and training trumps natural talent. He’s got heart, but GSP is just too much for him.
2. Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida. Enough said.
3. Jon Jones look like a future LW champ from this vantage point. He should join Greg Jackson’s team for better conditioning. When he was on, he was scary good.
4. UFC 94 was a horrible UFC to introduce to new fans of MMA. Oh well, maybe next time.
I heart Cock Chestnar

Perhaps I was blinded by Penn’s talent
So was Penn.
I agree that UFC 94 wasn’t the best one to introduce new fans to. Overall, I didn’t think it turned out to be such a great card in general, but whatever. I still enjoyed it and didn’t feel like I wasted my time. I’m probably just spoiled by now though.

Cyph - At least I can agree with you on these salary matters
with some exceptions – with the UFC’s new policy towards sponsers they get a cut of whatever the authorized sponser is paying the fighter to wear their stuff. They have horrible reps with some of the higher paying sponsers. Cage Fighter/Affliction
I think Affliction fighters can wear their own sponsered shorts and hats. They just all wear Affliction shirts.

Is that actually their new policy or is that just something that was being discussed?

Nate Diaz won The Ultimate Fighter
and Clay Guida still made more money.
by zeroword on Feb 1, 2009 3:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
They are both on the same payscale but Guida has been with the company longer.
