Combining UFC's 108 and 109

Much has been said lately about the fact that UFC 108 and UFC 109 are both weak cards. Neither card will feature a title fight or even have a truly compelling main event. Looking at the lists of fighters slated for those two cards, I think it should be possible to cancel UFC 109 and use those fighters to beef up the UFC 108 card. I'm not saying that this even probable at this point, but it's worth a look to see what kind of match-ups could be made. In addition, fighters who have recently fought but not taken serious damage should be considered as well. This makes for a number of compelling match-ups:

antonio rogerio nogueira vs. thiago Silva

Ben Saunders vs. Paul Daley

Dustin Hazelett vs. Paulo Thiago

Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera

Tyson Griffin vs. Joe Lauzon

Sean Sherk vs. Jim Miller

Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman

This way, Rashad could be kept on the sidelines until Rampage returns and there could still be a very appealing card. Just my opinion.

I dont see why you want to keep Rashad on the sidelines. Thats a fairly low risk fight and it only helps build towards an eventual Rampage fight which no one knows how far off it is.

Even if you do that, you are still left with:

UFC 108 + UFC 109 = (UFC 92) / 4

IMO it makes more sense to imagine what might happen if you amalgamated the two cards but kept the existing matchups intact. Obviously one card couldn’t hold them all, so you could shuffle a few off into a UFN card. It could look something like this:

MAIN CARD
Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Josh Koshceck vs. Paulo Thiago
Antonio Rogerio Noguiera vs. Brandon Vera

SPIKE LIVE PRELIMS
Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
Tyson Griffin vs. Jim Miller

PPV PRELIMS
Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Steve Cantwell
Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha al-Turk

UFN MAIN CARD
Sean Sherk vs. Rafaello Olivera
Paul Daley vs. Dustin Hazelett
Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller

This would be pretty cool, I think. Turn two lackluster PPVs into one pretty good one and a stellar UFN.

Unfortunately there is already a UFN in February.

It’s very unlikely for the UFC to back to back month fight nights.

Also you maybe thinking of UFC 110 which is in austrilia but still on PPV.

UFN usually has only 4 fights on the main card

I’d dump Pyle/Ellenberger as a result.

Was thinking of January yeah. Still though it would be odd for them to have two UFNs in January or in consecutive months.

No thanks, I like both cards just fine and the idea that there are no compelling matches is simply false. People really need to stop the fantasy mma booking and leave it to the pros.
