I think the Kang cut is unwarrented

by J_Maddux on Dec 9, 2009 3:40 AM EST reply actions

Kang cut, I understand

Listen. Kang is one of those popular international fighters with a whole lot of potential to make waves in the UFC and possibly give Anderson Silva some problems.
What happens?

He loses his debut to Alan Belcher. Not that Belcher is bad or anything but Kang lost a fight he was more or less winning. He decisions a guy hard hitter Drew McFedries put away in less than a minute. Drew is 4 and 5 in the UFC! I hope they keep him. Then last but not least, he’s convincingly win the 1st round against Bisping with striking and atheleticism only to get mauled in the 2nd round. Like Bisping said, when he gets in trouble, he wilts. He just doesn’t have it.

It’s true, if you haven’t reached your potential by 47-12… you just aren’t going to.

Or you have and its just not what the denizens of the intrawebs thought it was.

Although detractors decry (MMA) as a brutal, bloody form of human cockfighting, aficionados know it is a brutal, bloody, totally fucking awesome form of human cockfighting. -The Onion

Sad but true. And I thought he could’ve taken Bisping too. I guess this is another MW for Strikeforce to try and pick up.

by Hardcase on Dec 9, 2009 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

Ouch...

but hey, at least MFC and Strikeforce get new headliners fighters..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 9, 2009 3:51 AM EST reply actions

In sf he’d be just a fighter, but any former ufc fighter in main eventer in mfc. Being Canadian I’m sure mfc would love to have him.,. Mcdonald vs kang, leites vs kang. Surprised David loiseau hasn’t surfaced in mfc

by kanodogg on Dec 9, 2009 9:42 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

He was considered for a Strikeforce fight as well, but SF chose not to book him. MFC sounds like it would be a good place for him.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but Strikeforce has been very careful NOT to pickup just any fighter being cut by the UFC.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

That’s kind of silly.

They need to stop worrying about the UFC and start taking care of their own business.

What’s the downside on signing someone just cut from the UFC? Dana’s going to talk shit? Dana’s going to talk shit no matter who they sign. Passing on a guy because they don’t want to create the impression that they are UFC rejects is just silly.

by Phildo on Dec 9, 2009 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

Not really. Strikeforce wants to have its own brand and its own fighters. You don’t just want to copy someone else’s product or take their rejects to make your own promotion. Like I said, they are being careful which ones they sign. On the other hand, take a look at the MFC, who are signing pretty much as many UFC fighters who are getting cut.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

I think Thales Leites would have been a great pickup for Strikeforce.

by JRN on Dec 9, 2009 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but Lister, Leites, McDonald, etc have not put on great fights in the MFC. It’s definitely an interesting process of who they sign though.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

Who said anything about Lister or McDonald?

Leites’s one MFC fight was against Lister, who has a history of dull performances. I say that Leites would have been a great pickup because he’s a very talented guy who was cut prematurely from the UFC. His title fight was terrible, but the last fight most people saw him in (most people never saw Leites/Sakara) was still a world title fight.

by JRN on Dec 9, 2009 11:27 PM EST up reply actions

Generally speaking, I just think Strikeforce should be most interested in getting as many really good fighters as they can, and Leites is really good. Forget about whether or not they were UFC fighters recently. Put on good fights and the rest will follow.

by JRN on Dec 9, 2009 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

That’s sort of silly.

Copying the UFC is a way to succeed. If people tune in thinking that it’s UFC how can that be bad for Strikeforce?

Cut by the UFC or not, they should look to get the best fighters they can.

by Phildo on Dec 9, 2009 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

Not really. Strikeforce wants to have its own brand and its own fighters. You don’t just want to copy someone else’s product or take their rejects to make your own promotion.

You didn’t seem to have a problem with Affliction doing it.

The only thing Jon Jones does better than Matt Hamill is hear.

Affliction was giving me MMA shows featuring Fedor in my backyard. Why would I complain again? Those two Affliction shows were FANTASTIC to witness LIVE.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

So it’s ok to “copy someone else’s product or take their rejects to make your own promotion” as long as they hold their fights in Cali huh?

LOL, hilarious ufc4. They put on great fights with the best fighters that were available at the time. I’m not going to hate on that, unless you think Fedor, Barnett, Lil Nog, Arlovski, Vitor, etc were rejects. Nice try.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 9, 2009 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Hey I liked Affliction too, I just think it’s odd how you say it’s a good thing that SF is supposedly distancing themselves from UFC castoffs while you praised Affliction for more or less basing their business plan around that (Sylvia, Barnett, AA, and of course the Fedor fight with Randy that never came to fruition).

Delgado posted on the UG forums:

Getting cut is never fun. However it is a great chance for me to re group. Thanks to the supportive fans. I guess we all need haters too :)
Fighting isn’t so much a destination as it is a journey. I had a lot of fun fighting Polakowski and Kelly. Winner, not so much! Haha
Roli Delgado

and

I am going to 45. I was never a true 55er but what an awesome opportunity that was. I learned so much since the show. I look forward to fighting again in 2009.

45?

If he gets any skinnier I’d be concerned with how his body holds up; it’s like his height and reach are totally negated by the fact that he barely has any power as it is.

Not that I care, I was surprised he was signed in the first place.

Yeah, that really surprised me, I have yet to see him do anything really impressive.

If this is true, I’m sure no one will complain. He will be a great edition for any smaller promoter.

I am sure he won’t get cut for giving Kimbo a win in the UFC.

guess he shouldn’t have referred to bisping as a “free fight”.

by woooburn on Dec 9, 2009 9:45 AM EST reply actions

That makes me sad about Kang. He has so much talent but the way he has under performed can’t fault the UFC here. I would like to see him and Houston added to Strikeforce.

by xbuckeyex05 on Dec 9, 2009 9:54 AM EST via mobile reply actions

This makes me sad, Kang is an amazing fight but for some reason his mind gives out and he finds a way to lose fights. If he gets a few wins under his belt im sure they will take him back

by Riley_96 on Dec 9, 2009 12:11 PM EST reply actions

Kang could cut to WW and try to reinvent himself.

by swells2048 on Dec 9, 2009 12:22 PM EST reply actions

I’ve made that point before. He just doesn’t seem receptive to moving down in weight.

I am blinded by a sea of green.

Houston Alexander has been cut as well...

Now confirmed. Sucks for HA, but everyone saw this one coming.
