Rashad’s newfound love of stand up makes this fight a bit more difficult to call. What the hell, I’ll pick a Rashad KO anyways. Still not that impressed with Silva.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Rashad doesnt possess the best striking defense and Thiago has some of the most aggressive offense. Thats not the greatest mixture for Rashad. Chuck beat him in round 1, forrest won round 1 and 2. Machida destroyed him. Rashad needs to stop thinking he is an elite striker.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 8, 2009 2:39 PM EST reply actions

Couldn't you also say

Thiago doesn’t possess the best striking defense and Rashad has some of the most aggressive offense? The first really talented striker Silva fought exposed him in embarrassing fashion.

by JayKim41 on Dec 8, 2009 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah your right. But Rashad doesnt really have aggressive Offense when you really think about it. He has good footwork sure but he isnt very aggressive. He is more of a power counter puncher.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 8, 2009 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

Good footwork, not aggressive, powerful counters? Who has Thiago fought like that?

lol i just had a pretty violent burst of laughter over that.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

by Sam Cupitt on Dec 8, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

Rashad has terrible footwork.

Absolutely god awful. He hops around too much and takes his feet off the ground for no reason, undercutting his power. There was a judo chop about it around the time Machida took the belt that goes into more detail, but it’s safe to say that Rashad’s footwork is actually his biggest detriment, with his speed being his best attribute standing up.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

by lowellthehammer on Dec 8, 2009 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

does he really have that bad of footwork? Sure he does all the things you say, BUT how often is he off balance and vulnerable because of it. Also, I’m not so sure if it’s that big a deal if his power is “undercut”. He mostly gets the KO and the Power shots when they count. Until it is exposed further I’m going with his footwork being unorthodox in the same way Fedor’s striking has been considered unorthodox.

Speed is definitely his best attribute.

by natyong on Dec 8, 2009 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

When have Fedor’s looping punches led to him being KO’d? Never. When has Rashad’s tendency to hop into range and throw pawing jabs led to him getting KO’d? In his last fight. He tries to make up for it with speed, which he did against an aging Liddell, but Machida made him pay for it and so too could Silva.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

by lowellthehammer on Dec 8, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

Rashad does not have good footwork.

I'd say he has particularly mediocre footwork.

It was flat out bad a year ago. It’s improving, but higher level strikers will see how he steps with his back foot and make him pay dearly. Anderson vs. Rashad would be criminal.

by pdl on Dec 8, 2009 7:51 PM EST up reply actions

Hell, Antonio Mendes exposed him in embarrassing fashion if you ask me. I do not foresee Rashad’s speed and power being kind to Silva, while I don’t think Thiago’s technique will be up to snuff here.

Well, Thiago is certainly being cast as the villain. I expect everybody to be sick and tired hearing about Rashad taking this fight as revenge for Jardine come fight time.

by Ubernoober on Dec 8, 2009 2:43 PM EST reply actions

Don’t be surprised to see Rashad take this to the ground and look to finish Thiago there. Rashad need a dominant win to get back in title contention and he can’t be stupid and get into a slug fest with Silva, he needs to take him down and pound him out and get ready for Page.

by Raker on Dec 8, 2009 2:44 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t be shocked if Rashad tried to take care of Silva standing. He’s much faster and Thiago’s striking defense is lacking, which coupled with plodding footwork, makes him and excellent target for a striking display from Rashad circa UFC 88. Not to mention Silva’s so-so chin.

How do you figure? Because he got ko’d by Machida? The 1 time he’s been ko’d.

no i get the so so chin from a fight with mendes, he blocked and kick and was still rocked

by Riley_96 on Dec 8, 2009 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

Thiago's been

dropped by Mendes, knocked down & switched off by Machida, rocked by Alexander, and rocked by Drwal.

His chin certainly isn’t bulletproof, but his defense isn’t either. I think it’s a combo of mediocre chin/ poor defense.

Could see it going either way. Thiago has a really aggressive style, but he also sticks his head way out there, which was a nice target for Machida and could just tempt Rashad too…

Given that Rashad has a top level wins and Silva only really has Jardine, I say Rashad takes this one…. Then again, I really don’t like Silva…

this is the worst year end card they have had in years

its not worth 50 bucks at all. what killed it was that nog and cain are not the main event because the evan v.s silva is really co main event on ppv or spike maineevnt. its no where near ppv main event level
