When Jones lost I said that I bet Dana gave him his win bonus.

The kicker for me....

was Hammill got more in BASE pay, before the win bonus. WTF?

But not many were tuning in to see Hamill

But I had neglected the effect of an existing contract with Hamill.

To be fair

Hamill has a pretty nice following and was able to sell his story for a film adaptation.

To be realistic, however..

…No one really knows nor cares about Hamill except that his last name makes anyone wonder if he is related to Luke Skywalker or something…. :p

Okay sure, let's be realistic

Jon Jones isn’t that popular….. yet.

The UFC is not about to arbitrarily raise Jones’ salary based on perceived value mid contract.

Keep firing Assholes!

Fedor has accomplished nothing until he fights Kimbo.

Especially since this was the first fight under his new deal (for 4 fights I believe).

The only thing Jon Jones does better than Matt Hamill is hear.

Hahahaha, WHAT???

Ok so the UFC just got Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson to fight on one card and the total bill including win bonuses was $41K. Damn the UFC is impressive

by HighNoon on Dec 7, 2009 2:06 PM EST reply actions

$25,000 and no win bonus means Kimbo has some bonus structured into his deal. He probably gets extra based on ratings and ppv buys.
I am surprised by Nelson’s pay.

by John Nash on Dec 7, 2009 2:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Nelson's pay may have been dictated by the original TUF contract.

Note that all the TUF10 fighters got $8K plus an $8K win bonus.

That 6-figure contract will pay him quite a bit more per fight.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Llewdor on Dec 7, 2009 2:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, maybe it’s just for this fight because I can’t believe Roy would have signed on for the same crappy (for his abilities) 9-fight contract as past TUF winners.

by John Nash on Dec 7, 2009 2:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I’m honestly surprised the official report shows anything different for Kimbo than it does for everyone else.

Roy getting the 8/8 doesn’t mean he doesn’t have special business on the side.

by Phildo on Dec 7, 2009 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

If you notice, those that don’t recieve a win bonus are the same fighters that recieve ppv bonuses: Liddell, Tito, GSP, Couture, Lesnar, Anderson, BJ, Machida, and apparently Kimbo now.
You’re right Roy has got to be getting more. My thinking is he really recieved only $16,000 but before going on the show he signed a much better contract than past TUF winners, with the only stipulation being that he has to win the show.

by John Nash on Dec 7, 2009 2:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

GSP, BJ, Machida all recieve win bonuses

I’m not saying they dont get PPV % but if you look up UFC 98 and 100 you will see GSP and Machida got money to show and money to win.

101 was in Philly so they didnt release salaries but the last time BJ fought in Vegas and Won which was UFC 84 he had money to show and money to win.

by bigdmmafan on Dec 7, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

You’re right about GSP. I believe that’s because when they renegotiated they left they old deal in but added bonuses. Not sure. Also, I don’t think Machida and BJ receive win bonuses anymore.

by John Nash on Dec 7, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

I’m also inclined to believe that Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin, Big Nog, Forest Griffin, and Rashard Evans also have performance bonus deals – just not as lucrative as the other ones.

by John Nash on Dec 7, 2009 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

The total disclosed bill was $41,000, they probably got a lot more than that.

The only thing Jon Jones does better than Matt Hamill is hear.

It says a lot about Kimbo’s confidence that he signed a contract with no win bonus.

I dislike Matt Hughes. Shogun beat him like a dirty horse.

or a lot about how contracts are designed.

by Phildo on Dec 7, 2009 2:30 PM EST up reply actions

So it must have said a lot about Fedor’s confidence that he didn’t have a win bonus with Affliction.

Kimbo’s Agent: the UFC’s offering either 25k, straight up or $20k to show and $20k to win.

Kimbo: Man, you know, when these fists, I mean, I just gonna let them go, and pow. If he wants to bang, there’s gonna be a war. And if it goes to the ground, there’s gonna be a war. Somebody’s gettin’ hurt. You feel me?

Kimbo’s Agent: I’m signing for the 25k guaranteed.

They have Roy Nelson at a bargain. Well at least he has the $1 million contract but if he loses a couple of fights . . . we know how that goes.

Kimbo will make more money outside the Octagon.

yaa 6 figs not 7.

by Mr.Kib on Dec 7, 2009 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

I know it’s totally irrelevant but Rodney Wallace makes 6k in his Octagon debut, Brammer only makes 5k in his debut, and Veach makes 5k in his second UFC fight. Think its a difference in pay due to weight class or just that Rodney has a better agent?

by Rusty Trombone on Dec 7, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

It isn’t static— there isn’t a set figure that a fighter receives when he debuts. There is a negotiation, no matter how small a scale it’s on for unestablished newcomers.

And in most cases, there isn’t a scale until a fighter signs a second deal, so Veach can probably expect that pay for his next fight and probably one more (if he’s still around) after that.

by Blackout612 on Dec 7, 2009 2:26 PM EST up reply actions

That, and it depends on when you sign.

There’s a very good chance that when you are at the end of your initial contract you will be getting less than people making their debuts (especially with the people that are on the undercard/bottom of the main card) the salaries are going up, but you don’t get a raise until in sign a new deal.

by Phildo on Dec 7, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

In this case, Brammer and Wallace signed at about the same time, though. But yeah, that’s generally pretty accurate.

Well I personally can deal with 25k, more than 500k that ProElite (EliteXC) was giving Kimbo to fight the likes of Tank Abbott and James Thompson, I’m really not too concerned about it honestly…

=)

LOL, at those who think Kimbo was only paid 25K.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 7, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

I do believe that most logical people understand that a fighters “disclosed pay” isn’t what the fighter actually walk with…. Similar to when Strikeforce “disclosed” that they paid Mousasi 2k to beat up on Babalu people actually believed that and I was blown away by it, owell some things are just for a good laugh I guess

Jon Jones' Elbows

cost him $20,000 plus any possible Xotn bonus he could have earned. Who thinks he’ll ever throw an illegal strike again?

by Captain7 on Dec 7, 2009 3:42 PM EST reply actions

It's not like he didn't know they were illegal.

I assume everyone else noticed that McSweeney was in the process of throwing an illegal downward elbow to the back of Schoonover’s head when the first round ended.

It would have been funny to see two DQs the same night.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Llewdor on Dec 7, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

McSweeney also nearly

launched an illegal knee, until the ref reminded him not to. I was surprised the ref caught it before it happened, because I saw him loading it up as well.

by rzor on Dec 7, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think he was actaully gonna fire it off, alot of guys get ready for it in case that one hand on the ground comes up, then they’re eating a knee.

In the process of? That elbow hit Schoonover in the base of the neck. He also seemed to be trying to finger his eyes as well when he had Schoonover on the ground. That is just fighting dirty, and he should have definitely gotten called on it.
