The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale Post-Fight Interviews

MMA Junkie talks to Jones:

"I was hitting him so many times with so many legal blows, I was looking for more ways to get in and try to hit him more effectively," Jones said. "I hit him - I don't know. I hit him so many times, and they didn't stop it. I just kept going, and it came instinctively to come down the middle."

Opinions of Mazzagatti's handling of the situation are bound to vary widely among MMA observers. While Jones refused to complain with any vigor, count the 22-year-old New Yorker in the camp of those who believe the bout should have been stopped well before the illegal shots were ever thrown.

"I'm not positive what the rules are," Jones said. "But I think that 14 or 15 unanswered punches, it should be stopped. I said it in so many interviews, that I respect [Hamill] a lot for the inspiration that he is. It was awkward to keep hitting him like that.

"I was just hitting him so hard with legal shots, and I didn't realize that it was an illegal shot that I was hitting him with toward the end. I was like, ‘Does this not work anymore?' ... I didn't understand why it wasn't getting stopped. I was like, ‘Is he waiting for me to gas or something? What is this?' I looked at [Mazzagatti] twice like, ‘Why am I still hitting this guy?'"

I hope they don't make a Jones-Hamill rematch.

It wouldn’t make any sense, Jones already showed Hamill had nothing for him. I think seeing Hamill lying there broken and bloodied after the fight and limping away with his trainers was one of the few times I’ve ever felt bad for a guy after a fight was over.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Jones Is a True Class Act

His character and mindset outside the cage is equally as impressive as his enormous talent inside the cage. The way he took down Hamill was superb. I really thought Hamill’s strength would pose a problem for Mr. Chicken Legs.

I love the way Jon is handling this. Seems like just a awesome guy, way more together at 22 than I was. Result aside, he gets a ton of respect from me. On top of that, he looked amazing. Those throws and trips are just sick, and that was a hellacious beatdown even before the downward elbows. He came out unscathed, so hopefully we’ll get to see him fairly quickly.

Yer can’t say enough about Jones, he seems like a genuinely good guy, who cares about the sport, he is not in their to kill people. You could see him look up when he was G&P just looking for it to be over, because these shots were getting through and their was nothing that Hamil could do. Regardless of him losing his unbeaten record, people will know how he lost it and realise that their was little intent to do win illegally. He looks like he has a bright future ahead of him, and how mature is he for a 22 year old. Awesome

Jones is a pretty classy guy and has a good attitude about it all.

Plus, if you have to have a loss on your record; it might as well be the loss that everyone says “Yea, but…” about

It’s called the Fedor loss. Now I’m expecting Jones to go 27-0 over the next 10 years.

Damn straight. He’s the best interviewer in the business I do believe.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

yes. which renders the mike straka interviews almost unwatchable for me, at times.

no disrespect to him, but the fanhouse crew seems much more natural and knowledgeable

Correction: I don’t remember typing “so what” . . . I love the Dhalsim connection. Must have been a weird accident.

Jumping knee on a man that is so tired that he’s become a human punching bag. Not impressed.

McSweeney can’t hang. I hope he gets a couple of fights against legit guys so we can all see just how FAR he is from UFC material. McSweety Vs. Pat Barry plz.

Oh, and I hate McSweeney.

I support this.

Pat Barry would shitkick McSweeney, and I’d love every second.

Ditto

Not impressed with McSweeney. Schoonover was far from elusive.

He has glaring holes that will be exploited and just rubs me the wrong way.

The guy’s leg kicks had serious snap on them. After watching all the tuffies fight it was like watching someone fight in fast motion. You combine his length with his quickness and instinct? Oh good lord, that division is in for some serious hurting. It’s hard to imagine that 3 years from now he’s going to be only 25 yrs old. I have a hard time imagining Machida avoiding that kind of speed and length.

They should at least change the decision to a No Contest.

I don’t fault Mazzagatti for either the lack of stoppage nor for identifying the illegal blows. His error was in that he did not ask Hamill why he could not go on. If it was the shoulder injury that kept him from continuing, then that would have gone down as a win for Jones.
