Badr Hari got big quick!
It must be something in the water in Holland.

was thinking the same thing.
thanks for the clips. completely forgot this was happening. both those fights were wild. did overeem do anything but throw haymakers and shove hari to the ground?

He landed one or two significant shots, but Hari really overwhelmed him. Overeem really tore it up in his first fight though.

I wish I would have stayed awake for this show…was a great night of fights.

Hmmm
No way this guy could take Fedor.

Badr Hari is a better kick boxer then Fedor….

I would also bet money on Hari to beat Fedor in a kickboxing match , but who knows , Fedor surprises you again and again every time he fights …

Reem is just too slow now
He might not be gassing like before, but Fedor would run circles around him. Allistair looks like he’ll be pushing 265lb by the time he returns to SF.
by sacterre on Dec 5, 2009 2:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You’re aware that’s his second fight of the night? Check out how slow he was against Teixera. Fedor would be obliterated on the feet against Overeem.

That 1'st fight
literally didn’t last more than a minute. I understand that there is a warm up process, and everything, but his speed shouldn’t have been at least drastically reduced

I think he had an adrenaline dump in the first fight and wasn’t prepared properly to go 3 fights. His cardio is still not very good in my opinion.
by omigawda on Dec 5, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
IMO
the 3 rounds he went with Bonjasky and Aerts were telling, he was able to go strong the whole fight both times. I think that especially for someone whose muscles require such a huge amount of oxygen, his cardio is quite good.
Whether or not he will be able to go 3-5 5 minute rounds with grappling and extensive clinch work incorporated has yet to be seen, but at the very least he’s looked pretty fit. Against Hari, it was just a matter of being completely outclassed. Hari was much faster, much more accurate, and controlled the action of the fight completely.
But it just goes to show that Overeem is truly an animal, I mean this is a guy who can beat all but the very top of the heap K-1 fighters (IE Bonjasky, Hari, probably wouldn’t beat Schilt). Fedor is definitely faster, but Alistair is so powerful that it might not even matter.
(Nerd Alert) He kind of reminds me of Trunks in DBZ when he beefs up, sacrificing speed for power.

Gotta disagree. Overeem wasn’t fast. He grabbed the dude, held him and threw a couple spinach-powered knees up the pipe. That is strength and power, not quickness.

And that means he wasn’t fast? I’m not seeing how he was slow in his first fight.

I guess I am unfamiliar with the rules of K-1 but was that not an early stoppage? Overeem seemed to be fine after the ref stepped in. I know he was getting schooled but he didnt look out of it at that point at all.
by b2tharad on Dec 5, 2009 11:44 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yup, you don’t know the rules. In normal K-1 fights after 3 downs in one round the fight is stopped. In the GP fights the fight is stopped after 2 downs in one round.
by jinsoku on Dec 5, 2009 12:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
but hari was down 3 times in the final before stoppage?!
by kovy on Dec 5, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
In the semi finals
it is 2 knockdowns and in the quarter finals it is 3 (this applies in the final round)

Should have added this the first time. It’s 2 downs in the GP fights but in the final it’s the same as in normal fights, i.e. 3 downs end the fight.
by jinsoku on Dec 5, 2009 5:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
thanks for explaining. I guess it makes sense for them to take more caution with fighters who are fighting multiple times in one night.
by b2tharad on Dec 5, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I have no doubt that Fedor hits harder than Hari and certainly is faster than Overeem. Even if this fight ends up in Japan this does not bode well for Reem.

Edor doesn’t hit harder than Hari, but I like some of your drawings. Nice Lynch references.

Coming from a guy with a K1 av
There is no real way to know who hits harder
by Meshuggeth on Dec 5, 2009 1:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually there’s one. You get both guys in the same room. You tell Reem to wind up and punch you as hard as you can. Then you look at Fedor and tell him to punch you similar to Reem, as hard as he can. Then when you’re finished puking blood out of your nipples, decide who hit harder. It’s not scientific, but if a guy did that and told me that Reem hits harder than Fedor, I’d believe him.
by Dooda on Dec 5, 2009 2:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Oh yeah? Is that a challenge? Just became my new project.
by Dooda on Dec 5, 2009 4:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Actually
I doubt that Fedor hits harder than Badr, I mean Fedor does hit hard but Hari just has thunder in his hands. He regularly knocks guys cold with the 10 oz. kickboxing gloves on, imagine what he would do with 5 oz. gloves.
But you are right, Fedor is definitely faster than Overeem

I can't be sure...
I’ve only just seen this Fedor dude on the tube a couple of weeks ago beating up Mr T.
Fedor Popinsky looks like my trashman, and I don’t think he’s ever taken on much larger opponents before. It’s not like he’s known for his devastating striking power, or all around ground skills. I’m pretty sure he can’t take much abuse and has horrible taste in sweaters. I heard he quit once in a fight because someone scratched him. Oddly though I think this Alistarred dude might be retaining some water…whatever that means.
Did I mention UFC rulz? No in fact it RULLLZZ.

i was hoping hari could win it….. obligatory fedor comment

Overeem didn't look sharp at all....
Could he be crashing from all the “blow up” medicine?. Could be. If he fights Fedor(which he likely will now), he will do no better than Rogers did.
Hari does look bigger and sturdier as well. I could not find any weigh in info. Does anybody know what Overeem and Hari weighed?
by SimplePsych on Dec 5, 2009 1:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Overeem just looked bad. Did he think this was MMA and not K-1 because he was doing takedowns and forcing clinches a lot, but didn’t throw too many strikes.
by chrisbboy82 on Dec 5, 2009 2:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Not Bob Sapp-bad, but,
Overeem should try to get away with everything he can in the ring. It might make a lot of people hate him but hell— a lot of people do anyways since he fought Saint Mirko.
by sacterre on Dec 5, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That’s kinda all he does. He roughs people up with non scoring dumps and such.

While I enjoyed watching the GP, I wasn’t as impressed as you guys. There was a ton of Drama and Big Storylines involved, but many of the fights themselves I found quick & underwhelming. If I didn’t know the importance of the fights, I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much. That said, my favorite fight was Bojanski/Zimmerman. Awesome back-and-forth battle.

I think this discussion got started on the wrong foot because people think that was Overeem’s first fight of the night. Everyone should watch this before they try to break down Overeem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onG-SE2SC1o

Wow K1 is so different compared to MMA. You cant even draw any conclusions on how these fights would affect outcomes of future MMA bouts
by pandaboy99 on Dec 5, 2009 3:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Wait, what?
How is it different? This totally tells us how Overeem vs. Fedor will go. It’s the exact same thing, other than not defending takedowns, only throwing one strike per clinch, a different fighting environment, no breaks from knockdowns, two extra minutes in each round…

Good K-1 to Watch
Glad you liked it – it was indeed an awesome show!
We have a series of articles on great K-1 fights of the past over at HeadKickLegend.com. The series is called “From the Vault” – gives you some backstory and then the fight with discussion of the results and fall-out after you’ve watched so that you can not be spoiled. We’re hoping it’s an easy way for people new to K-1 to get acquainted with the company, so I hope you enjoy!

![Golden Glory says Alistair Overeem will fight 3 or 4 times in Strikeforce this year:
"But this year, I've been promised by Golden Glory that he's going to fight three or four times for us here before the end of the year, and we're going to hold him to it." Coker said.
"[Overeem] is going to have to come in and take the necessary tests and prove that he's like every other athlete," Coker said. "The playing field should be even for everyone, including Alistair, who's our world champion."
