This card is gonna be money.

If this and 110 can remain healthy we’ll have some kick-ass cards to help us forget this winter of our discontent.
I thought mayweather was “money”…
That shit better get signed next week.
UFC 107, UFC 111 is the boiler plate. 106,108,109 were all planned to follow suit but shit happens.
I actually prefer 108 over 109. Rashad vs Thiago is more meaningful than Randy vs Coleman… If Rashad loses then Randy will be Quinton’s next fight… at that point Ill be more interested.
what?
Im saying if Rashad loses, Randy will fight Quinton (im assuming Randy will beat coleman).
I guess you’re assuming Shogun will lose to Machida… in that case: haha you made a funny.
The shogun/machida fight is a close fight. I dont know that one.
It was an attempt at a joke but I didn’t write lose after Randy so it kind of fell apart. But seriously, what happens if Randy loses? What do they do with Coleman?
Coleman v. Bedpan?

GSP and Fitch both do a lot of wrestling, without a lot of submissions lately. GSP is coming off 3 straight decisions (counting Penn, since that is practically a decision). Big fans of both, but they aren’t the most exciting fighters.
Almeida could have a boring fight too if they aren’t careful with the matchup.

Yeah, GSP doesn't do much when he's got a guy on his back

I’m not tryin to bash GSP or Fitch. They are both great fighters (and I’d watch a rematch of that fight). But neither one has finished a fight recently (again, I don’t really count the Penn fight as a finish). They fought high level guys, and they are again. Hardy might not be the best fighter, but GSP probably won’t want to stand and trade. Same goes for Fitch (except Thiago has a great ground game).
A high chance at hitting a decision.

Really?
GSP – Penn II is pretty much what I imagine was in Ken Shamrock’s head when he said “living death.” Just because BJs eyes were open and he wasn’t a bloody mess doesn’t mean he wasn’t totally finished.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
But you figure he should have been able to finish. He was on top of him for nearly the entire 5 minutes, and completely dominated him. GSP-Penn 1 was also a lot of wrestling to win him the fight. He is a great fighter and extremely talented, but I don’t see why he gets a free pass with decisions and other wrestlers get criticized.
by Swordslasher on Dec 30, 2009 10:17 PM EST up reply actions
That's my point.
It was a five round fight. It ended in four. He finished BJ by TKO. In his last five fights, GSP has 2 decisions, 1 TKO, and 1 submission. What are you talking about?
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"

2 TKOs, 1 submission, 2 decisions.
Damn you, lack of an edit function.

Note to Swordslasher:
Fighters do not have an obligation to finish fights. Look at the faces of the fighters GSP has fought. Wow man..

Totally
Nobody else has even beaten Fitch since his first four fights. In 2002. When he fought at 205. And people are displeased that GSP didn’t finish? Get outta here with that!
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Again, I am not displeased that he didn’t finish Fitch. I’m just pointing out that GSP is more than willing to get a decision. He kicks major ass in the process, but he hasn’t been finishing lately.
by Swordslasher on Dec 30, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions
Where did I say they have an obligation to finish? Once again, these are two great fighters. I’ve been a longtime fan of Fitch, to the point that I thought he had a 50/50 chance against GSP.
GSP completely dominates his opponents, to the point of 10-8 rounds. But that doesn’t mean he is the most exciting fighter. I’m just pointing out that there is a chance that there could be a few boring fights. I’m not trying to bash either guy.
by Swordslasher on Dec 30, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions
Who is talking about excitement?
I’m taking exception to your suggestion that GSP is a lay-n-pray guy. Antonio McKee is a lay-n-pray guy. That’s a harsh term.

by Blackout612 on Dec 30, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions
Boring and lay ‘n’ pray tend to go in the same sentence. That is where excitement came from. And McKee is on a whole different level. That’s like comparing Sherk’s stand ‘n’ wang with with someone like Lesnar or Liddell.
I’m just curious where the free pass for GSP comes from. Fitch and Shields are constantly labeled as decision fighters, yet GSP is the golden boy. They all have very similar styles.

I can't even argue with you
You’re not making any sense. Sorry, I like you just fine, but this is a truly absurd line of thinking.

GSP doesn’t get labeled a decision fighter because he isn’t one. More than two thirds of his career wins are finishes, and in the UFC, he’s finished more than half. He’s gone to a decision in two of his last five. That’s not a decision fighter.
Jon Fitch 11 career decisions as compared to 9 career finishes. 5 of his last 5 wins were decisions. That’s a decision fighter.
Jake Shields doesn’t really deserve the mantle either—he’s got 14 career finishes and 11 career decisions, and before the Mayhem fight he’d finished 8 straight.
The fact that all these guys are wrestling-based fighters does not mean that they’re all decision fighters. The results speak for themselves. It’s not that GSP is a golden boy, it’s that he still finishes fights more often than not

Also, finishing elite Welterweights like Fitch or Alves is such a difficult thing to do. The higher quality the fighter, the harder it is to finish. When was the last time that Fitch or Alves lost by something other than decision.
Fitch KOed Alves, and Spencer Fisher triangled back in 06 and 05.
Intresting note: Thiago Alves started his career with back-to-back losses.

Err...Alves has a great ground game?
Since when? He got taken to school BJJ-wise by Spencer Fisher of all people, eventually getting choked out, and he had GSP on his back for a good portion of that fight. GSP would have likely gotten a sub if he hadn’t torn his groin going for an armbar.
I haven’t seen any semblance of a ground game from Alves, other than takedown defense.
by Scott Haber on Dec 30, 2009 11:56 PM EST up reply actions
Come on, you can’t really hold it against Alves that he got triangled by Fisher in his FIRST UFC fight years ago; Alves is a much different fighter today than he was back then. I remember that GSP had Alves on his back for a good portion of that fight not the other way around, and GSP is a BJJ black belt who is known for being able to get back on his feet.
by "on his back"
I meant that GSP had back-mount, not that GSP was on his own back with Alves on top…should have clarified.

No. Mayhem is an extremely durable fighter. Jacare couldn’t submit him, and GSP couldn’t finish him. Granted, Shields had an extra 2 rounds, but it’s still not an easy thing to do. But out-grappling a guy that is nearly impossible to submit and fights at a higher weight division (considering 170 is where Shields belongs) is spectacular.
However, it’s clear I’m in the minority (alone maybe). I’ve made my point, you’ve made yours. No point in continuing to clog up the comments with this.

When I was younger My average lay was between a 6 and 8… and I thought this is too much work for not enough return so then I went to staples and printed up some business cards. I was now a “talent scout” for a major network. Been fucking 9’s and 10’s ever since then with alot less work.
And It all started with an idea and 20 bucks for printing.

Man this card is going to be great! As long as everyone stays healthy and the matches go as scheduled, this has to be the card of the year on paper

I’m surprised that Mir vs Carwin and GSP vs Hardy will be on the same card. Mir vs Carwin, especially for an Interim Title, could easily main event a UFC card.
I’m really gonna try to make it to NJ for this one, who’s with me?

Was gonna do Vegas for March Madness, but my buddy lives in NY and I haven’t seen him in a few years.

I’ll probably be in Vegas for the Final Four weekend. If you’re going let me know if you want me to get you Barry Manilow tickets.
As for NY? I don’t think I’ll be back from my job by then.
I’ve only been to Vegas during March Madness. It’s the best time— weather wise, people wise, sports wise. I love it. Maybe I’ll do both, considering this is late in the month. Don’t think the two will converge.

This card is awesome, and it only has 3 fights. I’d love to see Kos or Condit v Almedia.
To be fari to GSP, there were a few times they could have stopped the Fitch fight, and no one would have said it was a bad call. That was a one sided beat down, and Fitch came in on a 9 UFC fight winning streak, and has won all his fights since.
Bring in two more Welterweight matches. Make it an 8 man, one night only welterweight tournament.
GSP would still be the heavy favourite, but it’d be interesting!

i think Almeida should get a fight like Marcus Davis for his debut at welterweight (is he scheduled for anything?) or the daley/hazelett winner.

The problem with a guy like almeida is if you’re his opponent and you want to beat him with high probability then it’s almost always gonna be a boring fight.
i feel like almeida/hazelett could be a lot like diaz/stevenson which i enjoyed tremendously

hed be a great addition have him fight yushin okami or demian maia and what has he been up too?
This is one beast of a card.
I am really really really looking forward to this. Early picks: GSP, Mir and Alves all for the win.
I love me some Sexyama!
