Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (18-3-0) not interesting in fight with Brandon Vera (11-4-0):
"Lil’ Nog was offered a fight with Brandon Vera, but was not interested since the American is coming off a defeat to Randy Couture at UFC 105 and also because the two share a training facility."

Patrick Cote (14-5-0) calls out Rich Franklin (27-5-0):
"Rich Franklin said than he want to take time off until May, hope he will come back at 185 and fight me here in Montreal !!! UFC 113 May 1st Cote vs. Franklin sounds good to me !!! We' ll see."

Nice try Patrick...

but it’s straight to the undercard for you. Leites went 5 rounds with the champ and look where it got him.

by HappyLittleTreez on Dec 3, 2009 11:27 AM EST reply actions

Cote is exciting. Leites is not.

Cote is not an undercard fighter, he’s legit at 185.

Is this a joke comment? Seriously?

He’s just fishing for a big name. Honestly who has he beaten? I don’t know guess he doesn’t impress me.

Cote didn’t do a whole lot, but it was about 1000x better than Floppy McFlopperson’s fight.

I really don’t get the Cote hate. Anderson makes people look bad. Yeah, maybe he talked a bit much in the aftermath about how long he lasted, but everyone talks. Not everyone could be hit in the face with a cement truck and not be KO’d.

by woomikee on Dec 3, 2009 12:55 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, no. There is a massive difference between the appeal of the two fighters. Personally, Patrick vs Franklin sounds great to me!

I love me some Sexyama!

by pud333 on Dec 3, 2009 12:00 PM EST up reply actions

I agree. I think Cote/Franklin would have the potential to be a pretty decent fight.

by Hardcase on Dec 3, 2009 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

Can't believe I'm defending Leites

UFC did not shove him into the undercard. He stepped in at 101 when Palhares injured himself. The Silva fight had nothing to do with him being buried in the prelims (Though he probably would have been sent there when Joe Silva booked his next fight, I imagine).

by dv8shun on Dec 3, 2009 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

I have a feeling that Silva fight had something to do with him being cut, though.

by JRN on Dec 3, 2009 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

Cote really doesnt get it does he? he was doing terrible against silva, and he didnt win a single fan with that fight. no one cares

Albeit unsuccessfully. Better to try than to sit back.

Rich Franklin

I don’t think he gives a damn what weightclass it is at this point, he just wants to find a home and work towards another title. Poor dude has to be fed up with all the catchweights and such…I don’t think they’ll move Rich to 185 for Cote though.

i think i recall him saying he couldnt make 185 again. he’s been trying to get bigger for 205

This is surprising.

The nogs train with Vera from time to time, and they really don’t fight training partners. Why would they offer that, since it really isn’t a fight that people are clamoring for.

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 3, 2009 11:32 AM EST reply actions

Who cares, Rogerio just saved Vera a beating.

Vera has more loss before he becomes the guy they keep around only because hes Filipino.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

by Day Man on Dec 3, 2009 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

Does nobody understand that Rich wants to be a 205er?

Jesus Christ, can we let the man at least try to get some sort of a relevant win streak going at his new weight class?

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

by lowellthehammer on Dec 3, 2009 11:36 AM EST reply actions

I’m not convinced that Rich understands that he wants to fight at 205lbs.

Lil Nog v. Vera

I hate it.

I mean, I love it, but I hate it.

I want to see Vera to fight Brian Stann or Steve Cantwell next.

I am fine with that as well.

Pretty much anyone from WEC, where Vera had great success.

Other options include: Ariel Gandulla, Justin McElfresh, and Lodune Sincaid.

Also, and this is more serious: Stephan Bonnar

What about the big mofo that Mashall trucked right before the stann fight?

I like to see great fights with the odd blood bath now and then.

Well, he submitted Gandulla immediately before fighting Marshall.

He trucked McElfresh before that.

LOL, Ariel Gandulla. He’s like over 40 now, isn’t he? No.

They should gank Solomon Hutcherson from MFC just so I can see Team Dagger montages.

I’m all for that. Hutch should be honor bound to train at Kendall’s new gym (with my boy Troy Mandaloniz).

But seriously, Vera v. Bonnar makes a lot of sense for both guys.

How is he not in Strikeforce? Not that he’s particularly good, but still, they need warm bodies in that division like whoa, and he’d be a hell of a lot more entertaining than Mike Whitehead.

If/when Jon Jones beats Hamill he should fight Lil Nog with the winner getting a title shot

by bla10cow on Dec 3, 2009 11:47 AM EST reply actions

Too fast.

Spinning out solid gold, like Rumpelstiltskin.

by Heenan on Dec 3, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

Uh, no. Jones is 22 years old and has only been fighting for 2 years, throwing him in there right now with a legitimate top 5-8 guy would be way too soon.

by ufc4 on Dec 3, 2009 12:04 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Why would they put a legit title contender in there with a guy coming off a loss? Even with all the injuries right now that’s just bad matchmaking.

by ufc4 on Dec 3, 2009 12:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions

To be fair

The Vera loss wasn’t a brutal, one-sided loss, so this rumored fight is not that horrible. Depending on your point-of-view, it could have gone either way.

by dv8shun on Dec 3, 2009 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

A loss is a loss regardless of your opinion.

by CSKit on Dec 3, 2009 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

Perhaps

But are you saying if you take a loss you must ONLY fight against another losing fighter? Just because?

I myself don’t like Vera, but I feel Rogerio vs. Vera could be entertaining if they stay on their feet (And if Vera gets KO’d).

by dv8shun on Dec 3, 2009 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

Yes it could be entertaining but Rogerio deserves a better matchup after the beating he just laid down.

by ufc4 on Dec 3, 2009 2:48 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

So does it bother you that Shogun is getting a title shot coming off of a loss? All losses were not created equal.

by Neil Manich on Dec 3, 2009 1:22 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

How can you compare Leites to Cote?

I don’t think Cote will be on the undercard and would also be surprised if he didn’t get matched up with a top tier 185er. I would like to see Franklin vs Cote even though Im not sure if even Rich knows what division he’s fighting in any more…

by Lunchbox15 on Dec 3, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions

For Rogerio, Forrest Griffin makes a lot of sense but also the winner of Evans vs Thiago Silva works as well. Cote needs a good mid tier to fight as his comeback because he’s been on the shelf for a long time, so I would go with an Alan Belcher, Nate Quarry, or if he wants an easy win (because I am not a fan of his anymore)-Denis Kang. Sexyama vs Cote would also be a lot of fun.

by chrisbboy82 on Dec 3, 2009 12:09 PM EST reply actions

Good choices

I think all those are great matchups for Cote’s return. Belcher and Quarry are great matchups. The striking would be awesome.
What’s the deal with Sexyama now that he’s not fighting Wanderlei? Does he have an opponent?

by Lunchbox15 on Dec 3, 2009 12:12 PM EST reply actions

akiyama vs cote would be nice

by nastyem on Dec 3, 2009 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

by ryanwk628 on Dec 3, 2009 12:29 PM EST reply actions

I’m unexpectedly enthused about a Cote/Franklin match-up.

I don’t really care about Lil Nog not fighting Vera. Rogerio really gets nothing out of that match-up. They should let Couture get beat up by Lil Nog too.

by Hardcase on Dec 3, 2009 12:29 PM EST reply actions

give me Cote vs. Anthony Johnson at 185. Damn, does that man beast need to move up.

Franklin wont fight Cote because what good honestly does it do for Rich if he defeats Cote. Cote is coming off a huge layoff so defeating him does nothing for Franklin in the 185, 195 or 205 pound divison.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Dec 3, 2009 1:16 PM EST reply actions

What about Franklin vs Vera. That makes more sense to me

by Neil Manich on Dec 3, 2009 1:22 PM EST reply actions

give Vera Luiz Cane, they are both comig off losses so why not

by Riley_96 on Dec 3, 2009 2:20 PM EST reply actions

Why doesnt Nog want that fight?

Honestly, who is out there for him?

Forrest, but if Tito/Forrest do TUF that cant happen, Machida/Shogun, Rashad, Thiago Silva, Jardine, Bader they are all set, Coleman/Couture.

Really maybe Franklin, but he is coming off a lost. I think Vera would be the perfect fight for him, even though he lost he was coming off a close fight with Randy.

If Forrest is doing TUF, then Vera is the only big fight for him out there, if Forrest isnt doing Tuf, than Nogs/Forrest should happen.

Well see.

by KRS827 on Dec 3, 2009 5:30 PM EST reply actions

I think they should go Vera/Cane and Cote/Akiyama

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

by Sam Cupitt on Dec 3, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions

Fights I'd like...

Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Tito Ortiz vs. Rich Franklin
Brandon Vera vs. Luis Arthur Cane
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kendall Grove
Patrick Cote vs. Yushin Okami

by CSKit on Dec 3, 2009 9:49 PM EST reply actions

good fights

Franklin has no reason to make himself a stepping stone for Cote. Franklin needs to set his sights on developing his record as a LHW and contending for the title, not looking back to MW.

Nogueira vs Vera is a stupid fight. Nogueira needs to move up the ladder, not down.
