wow
can you imagine if Mousasi loses?
Making the world a better place, one dirtbag at a time.
Masato the favorite over Souwer?
"I fight because I can’t sing, I can’t dance, and it beats working all day. Now ask me a question that doesn’t sound so fucking stupid." – Phil Baroni
Masato is going to be the favorite over just about any lightweight kickboxer in the world except maybe Petrosyan.
by George Lucas on Dec 29, 2009 10:34 PM EST up reply actions
Masato has ridiculous amounts of hype behind him thanks to FEG and Schiavello, whereas Souwer is coming in as the understudy for Petrosyan. Gamblers think they’re smart by paying attention to that sort of thing.

The fact that Gegard Mousasi is fighting Gary f’ing Goodridge…
a) Why not just shoot Gary in the head? It should be a felony to put him in the ring against anyone, much less a top guy. The dude is shot, burned out, and reshot.
b) This really kinda proves how empty the promotions outside the UFC can be. This is a match that no one even imagined, much less wanted. This makes Jose Canseco v. Choi look like a real fight. Is this really what a top ten guy should be doing with his time?
I’m appalled. This is beyond the pale. It is absurd and cruel.

I have a feeling that Aoki will get Kitaoka'd

Aoki's not as much of a one trick pony as Kitaoka, but I just have a gut feeling...
I see knees to the cranium in Aoki’s future.

Hmm, I don’t remember that. Sengoku 9, right? Maybe Youtube has something. Sure don’t look like puke though.
That part wasn't televised.

The odds don’t look like this on bookmaker. Some of the bigger differences:
Masato -130/Souwer EVEN
Misaki -167/Manhoef +147
Aoki -355/Hirota +285
Kawajiri -355/Yokota +285
Kid -375/Kanehara +305
Sefo -405/Weirdo +325
Plus there’s a cool prop bet – Who wins more fights?
Dream -345
Sengoku +275

Surprised that Manhoef isn’t the favorite, or it might be my ignorance of his opponent. But in all fairness Manhoef is a killing machine!!!!!

Mizaki has fought Riggs, Jorge Santiago, Akiyama, Trigg, Kang, Hendo (twice) Marquardt (twice) and Baroni and never been TKO’d in his career, other than a broken arm once. He’s well-known for his chin. Yes, Melvin hits harder than any of them, but Misaki is the real deal.
"My diet is like Atkins, but with the carbs." - BJ Penn
Misaki doesn’t have a ground game to speak of and thus is going to get murdered. He’s a tough, smart and patient striker, but Manhoef’s power and technique are simply on another level.
Manhoef as an underdog in this fight is ridiculous.
by George Lucas on Dec 29, 2009 10:32 PM EST up reply actions
Misaki doesn’t have a ground game? His 9 subs say otherwise.
"My diet is like Atkins, but with the carbs." - BJ Penn
Thanks for the fightfinder stats brosef but basically if you’ve ever seen Misaki fight you’d know what I was talking about.
by George Lucas on Dec 29, 2009 11:10 PM EST up reply actions
Oooh I must not know anything because I used a stat! Come on. I’ve seen his last 15 fights or so, and you’re dead wrong. He most definitely has the ability to get Manhoef on the floor and sub him. The one with no ground game at all is Manhoef.
"My diet is like Atkins, but with the carbs." - BJ Penn
Manhoef "Doesn't do ground game"
But he does mangle people on the feet.

He’s like a fight cloud from the comic strips, son.

Of all of those fights you listed in your first reply in this thread, which ones would you say really showed off Misaki’s ground skills?
by George Lucas on Dec 30, 2009 2:12 AM EST up reply actions
Okay tell that to Frank Trigg and Jorge Santiago.
by George Lucas on Dec 30, 2009 2:06 AM EST up reply actions
Frank Trigg and Jorge Santiago are also both grapplers. Losing to them—and Trigg didn’t even submit Misaki—doesn’t mean that Misaki has no ground game.
Trigg also beat Olympic judo gold medalist Makoto Takimoto by unanimous decision—does Takimoto have no ground game?
Jorge Santiago submitted Jeremy Horn—does Jeremy Horn have no ground game?
The Afghani grappling sensation Siyar Bahadurzada?? Color me impressed.
Nakamura got tapped only after Misaki KO’ed him with a knee, but thanks for using fightfinder to try and prove me wrong instead of watching fights.

And that also means precisely dick because in any fight that’s ever mattered he’s been a striker.
Throw fightfinder stats or biographical notes at me all you want, the proof is in the pudding.
by George Lucas on Dec 30, 2009 3:54 PM EST up reply actions
Following a striking based strategy and getting easily dominated on the ground by Frank Trigg and Jorge Santiago = having no ground game to speak of.
by George Lucas on Dec 30, 2009 5:15 PM EST up reply actions
Your logic is mindnumbing, jar jar.
Sure, he’s decided to stand and trade with some of his opponents. But he’s used his grappling skills in others, which you’re conveniently choosing to ignore.
You said he “had no ground game to speak of”. This statement is obviously false, no matter how you try to weasel your way around it.
"My diet is like Atkins, but with the carbs." - BJ Penn
Since you’re so big on examples, go back and re-watch Siyar vs. Misaki. Big striker vs. “the guy with no ground game to speak of”.
"My diet is like Atkins, but with the carbs." - BJ Penn
He tapped out a no-name can, this shakes my theory to the very core!
by George Lucas on Dec 30, 2009 5:14 PM EST up reply actions
Hey this Eric Esch guy has 7 submissions on his record, that dude must be quite the grappler!

A “no-name can” that’s the Shooto LHW champ. Sure buddy. Keep chirping.
Go look at what Leland has to say about the card. I’m done with you.

that was truly an expert display of Misaki’s grappling prowess we saw this morning

Yeah, I'm surprised Ishii's a favorite
I know Yoshida’s pretty creaky at this point but still, an 0-0 guy who we’ve never seen take a punch as favorite? It’s not a Judo match.
And is Goodridge really in such rough shape? I’ve lost track of him since Pride.
by WanderleiNoooooo! on Dec 29, 2009 9:20 PM EST up reply actions
It’s not so much that Ishii is favored, it’s by how much that surprises me. Perhaps the oddsmakers thought it was a who has the biggest head contest.
by ufc4 on Dec 29, 2009 9:27 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I’d LOL so hard if Yoshida somehow beat Ishii.

For all we know, his jaw might be made of tissue paper. I wouldn’t be surprised if he loses.

Were I a betting man, I would put some money on both Kanehara and Nishijima. Both have a very strong shot at winning, much more so than the line would have you think.

by Fraser Coffeen on Dec 29, 2009 10:17 PM EST reply actions
I think Nishijima has taken enough beatings to the point where any threat he would have posed to Sefo has pretty much gone. But I’m not ruling out Kanehara at all.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
Also Nishijima is wearing shoes!!! K-1 rules, w shoes. well played sir well played. also good luck.

Mousasi, what is this bullshit?

Dream should take all the blame.
You can’t really get mad at Mousasi or his management, they are being offered a bunch of money for any easy fight on the most important Japanese event of the year, so of course they should take it. But Dream? C’mon, this isn’t 2003. Lets try to stay relative to the sport scene here Tokyo.
I pretty much agree, I mean if you’re gonna get $75,000 or $100,000 to go out there and win an easy fight in front of a huge audience that’s gonna be difficult to turn down.
Manhoef, why not him?
Keep firing Assholes!
Editor of www.downsyndromematuremidgetsheltlandponyporn.com/
Maybe Manhoef said no to Mousasi?
Either way it is up to Dream to offer the fight. If a fighter won’t take it you don’t just give him a squash match just to make him happy.
Or
Dream wants to save it for the 205lbs tournament?

Boo on no Sakuraba. Why would they not put such a popular star on the card when it clearly looked like he was ready to go. The argument that there is no one relevant for him to fight kinda goes out the window here (see Mousasi and Overeem above).
Is this masatos retirement fight? Thats the impression I get from schiavellos tweets.
Japanese promoters sure love to put on squash fights
