Rumor: Steve Cantwell Off UFC 108 Card
Steve Cantwell is the latest to be bit by "The Curse of UFC 108":
Vladimir Matyushenko on Tuesday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that his originally scheduled opponent for this weekend’s UFC 108 in Las Vegas, Steve Cantwell, is out of their fight due to undisclosed reasons.
Cantwell/Matyushenko was actually a really intriguing fight on paper. The promotion is now scrambling to find a replacement to fight Matyushenko on only a few days notice.
Signing a contract for this card was like watching the video tape in The Ring.
Update: Cantwell's management speaks to ProMMA.info:
“Steve Cantwell is not officially off the card. There has been a minor issue and we hope it will be resolved in the morning. Steve is still training and preparing for the bout. As always, special thanks to Steve’s sponsors Jaco, Silver Star, GammaO, Hayabusa and Punch Drunk Gamer.”
Maybe there is hope yet.

It's right in the beginning when they find the girl who first watched the tape.

Yeah Boy!
I love that you know that! Awesome awesome awesome movie. I forgot I was watching a horror movie at one point and then it all went downhill fast. Which made it so much more disturbing to me.

I haven’t seen this many pull outs since the adult video awards.

Hmmmm
UFC Light Heavyweights with no bouts in the immediate future:
-Razak Al-Hassan
-Luiz Cane
-Alexander Gustafsson
-Jared Hamman (won’t fight him because Vladimir is his coach)
-James Lee
-Eliot Marshall
-Eric Schafer
-Rodney Wallace (just fought)
Who will sign to help the org, lose and then get cut by the UFC?
Cane is probably on med suspension

I believe James Lee retired from MMA
they just never took his profile down on the UFC site, along with many other fighters who no longer are employed by the company.
Are you telling me that Zane Frazier is no longer under the UFC’s employ?

He is not retired. He has been busy opening a new gym( not mash) and helping around our local MMA scene. He was talking about fighting in Japan next year. Not sure about his UFC contract. He flew over and corners Hervey in Japan so might do something over there.

Is there any possibility that the rash of injuries is some sort of hidden strike or something? Snowball effect as each fighter leaving makes wasting a fight on a loser card less attractive? I mean really. This is beyond anything.

If I bought tickets to this event, I would be fuming
By no means am I saying that Matyushenko/Cantwell was a big fight, but this is ridiculous. Probably a smart move by Cantwell though, as “The Janitor” poses some stylistic issues for him.

The Japanese Ring is infinitely superior...
Chiefly due to face stomping, knees to the head on the ground, and athletes freed to achieve their full scientific potential.

You meant RINGS.
And man, I watched Ringu hoping that it’d be even better han the Ring (screw you, Brett – it was AWESOME), and was really disappointed. The extra back story was interesting, but even more of the movie made no sense.

Ringu only makes sense if you think about it in terms of the Japanese oni taking on modern form. Which is why I think that the American version sucks – it just doesn’t make sense because the cultural context is all wrong.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
Eh. I dunno. I felt like by introducing more story, they just created more things that needed explaining in the Japanese version. Still: I liked both more than most horror flicks.

Regardless of who's available
who would take a UFC fight on 4 days notice? Mike Pyle did when he filled in for Chris Wilson, but they already had him on hold earlier than that because they anticipated Wilson would drop out.
I would think they can possibly get a free agent to come in and do it with the promise of some more fights in return. Isn’t that how Houston Alexander got the Jardine fight?

Aside from Papa Shango
can this curse be traced back to any particular fighter or event? Is it too late so seek help from T.A.PS?

Unfounded Rumor here.

I’m starting to worry that I’ll get injured for even planning to watch this card.
