Quote of the Day: Gilbert Yvel Plans To Knock Out Junior Dos Santos at UFC 108
"What better way to prove myself than to knock out Dos Santos.
"He's a strong guy; he's a tough guy. If I play my game and I be relaxed, and listen (to my corner) through the whole thing, I won't, I hope there won't be no problems because he is a good fighter, but his stand-up game is not in my league.
"We can play that game all night. I don't see any trouble.
"For sure I'm going to knock him out. I do MMA to knock somebody out, because then you know you won. He's on the ground. He's sleeping, you're standing, and it's better than after two rounds the judge says to tell you who is better.
"If I knock him out then I did my job and nobody can say anything."

Should be an intriguing fight
If I knock him out then I did my job and nobody can say anything
Where was this quote when I needed it. I seem to remember arguing with someone earlier today about the definiteness of a knockout. Apparently a 1 punch KO like Nate > Maia or Dos Santos > Werdum does not prove anything…
No-one in their right mind would argue with the flawed genius that is Gilbert.

yeah if its one punch its “a lucky punch”… if its beating a guy in every area it then becomes “He couldnt even finish him”.
It’s sad. You can’t win even when you win.
Why are you up at this hour? Abu Dhabi again? Or am I greatly confusing my time differences…

Dubai, but Im done here and Ill be in Aussie next week to more familiar punani and a much needed vacation.
A guy sets off a firecracker on a plane and now I gotta look forward to some fat fuck padding my ballsack down.
Anyway… just shooten the shit and pissing people off. I was thinking of doing a Fanpost on Strikeforce to kill some time.
I was in Dubai 2 days ago
Cannot BELIEVE the size of that building they got going on. When the flight took off through the clouds the thing was sticking through like Jack’s beanstalk.
Sydney is great, you will love it. Head down to Bondi for your Punani! (And some great steaks from Hurricane’s restaurant)

oh also, be warned: tourists often shirk at the size of Bondi beach. It is SMALL.
Better beaches for surfing etc. are north in Manly if that is your thing.

I was thinking about hanging in melbourne and then the gold coast for a bit.
The burj was a waste of money… Special oxygen units are needed to even live at the top and if that and the back ups go down you’re dead.
the palm islands where Im currently staying will sink within 10 years and the developer is bankrupt. Good times ahead.
The only thing this place has got going for it is the usable infrastructure already in place and the tax system which will make it the singapore of the middle east and it will benefit greatly with India’s rise… if they can just hang on for another year and a half.
I was reading something recently about how abu Dhabi has its eyes on being the ‘western freindly’ emirate. If that is the case, Dubai could well be in for a rougher ride than it already is.
Melbourne is my home town, awesome city for partying and some European style atmosphere (Secret restaurants and Cafe’s up laneways, etc). Vue de Monde, Ca de Vin, Oriental Tea House, and any Cafe on Degreaves St are my favourite places to go. Nightlife you should try and check out Boutique, CQ and anywhere down Fitzroy St in St Kilda (in order from Oldest to youngest demographically speaking)
Gold Coast will be stacked with young’uns who have finished high school this year but it is still pretty cool. Reminds me of pictures I have seen of Hawaii.
No idea how old you are or what you are into, but my favourite part of Australia is probably Port Douglas, about an hours drive north of Cairns. Reasonably quiet from a nightlife standpoint, but lotsa restaurants and things to do. You can go scuba diving/snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef (Which is AWESOME), go croc spotting in electric boats, visit the Daintree rainforest and of course awesome beaches. Could be worth a look!

Thanks for the intel… regarding “what I like to do”, simply:
I like to “do” 18 to 20 year olds. Everything else seems to take care of itself.
Every decade I increase my allowable age for punani. so in the spirit of 2010 I will be going up to 21… so it’s 18-21.
Keeps me young and healthy. Better than fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.
You really think those things are gonna sink? I always think that those things are cool looking when I see a pic- then I think “WHY?”.
They are great if they can be maintained… it adds so much to the place. I just think they opted for fresh circulation of currents over making sure the island doesnt sink. It was a lose – lose… if they opted to maintain the integrity of the structure the water would smell like shit.
The good news is for the second and third islands they figured out the solution… the bad news is those islands will probably never be completed because demand has dried up and the long term outlook for all this excessive infrastructure doesn’t look good.
I see a KO in this fight too, too bad for Yvel it’s going to be him laying face down…

Nah, you’re wrong my friend. He’ll be laying face up…

Yvel definitely has a chance here… stylistically this is a closer fight than most think. JDS hasnt shown any ground and I dont believe he’s progressed enough with the nog brothers to be any kind of threat there offensively.
It will probably be a slug fest…and Gilbert is a better more diverse striker, but he tends to get crazy and opens up, Plus he took the fight on short notice…

It doesn’t take much of a ground game to make a difference, we are talking about Gilbert Yvel here. It should be an interesting fight but the hole in Yvel’s game is huge.
It’s a hole but Barnett a no gi champ couldnt do anything with it for 2 rounds. I just dont like the fight stylistically for JDS… even though he’s likely to win.
In a perfect world with no injuries Gonzaga was a good test… Yvel should be fighting Pat Barry for a novelty fight or if he’s really serious he should fight a grappler to prove he can compete.
The question is who does JDS fight next? Gonzaga? There’s like no other fight that makes sense for him with the way the HW division has stacked up.
I wasn’t impressed by Barnett in that fight at all, it looked to be more of him just not getting it done than anything Yvel was doing. I do agree that JDS should be fighting Gonzaga, he’s poised for that next step. Yvel vs Pat Berry also sounds interestingas would Yvel vs Kongo if Yvel wins. Still I just don’t see Gilbert Yvel going very far in the division as he is so one dimensional and the division is full of top knotch ground guys.
Somebody should tell Gilbert that there are 3 rounds in a fight.

…and that he’s not supposed to KO the guy in the black shirt.

I think that people forget that Dos Santos’ boxing isn’t great at all, he’s only 25 years old.
Where as Yvel has been at it for 12+ years and is a great kickboxer.
I’m guessing he’s gonna use some of that size and try and get Yvel down.
what I like to look for on any upcoming fights is the level of competition these guys were beating prior to facing each other. Dos Santos is coming off two stoppages against top talent in Werdum and Cro Cop, while Yvel is coming off with wins against B level fighters in the past few years (although he lost to roided up Barnett, which I don’t count). I agree that Yvel has great striking, but let’s not forget that his previous opponents are no where near the caliber of a Dos Santos. I don’t think he’ll be able to do whatever he wants to Dos Santos on the feet. Of Saints by KO!

Anyone wanna bet an over/under for how many warnings Yvel gets? Groin shots, bites, eye pokes, what else? Why did the UFC sign this guy?

bq.He’s on the ground. He’s sleeping, you’re standing, and it’s better than after two rounds the judge says to tell you who is better.
Hopefully someone in Gilbert’s camp tells him that there are three rounds. lol
Dos Santos should win, Gilbert despite his power is far too wild for my liking.

my biggest doubt is yvels fight shape. he didn’t seem very fit in the video (white’s blog). He was breathing very heavy from what “seemed to be” a lite wkout.
I do NOT see jds’s standup game being superior to yvel’s.
I am taking the UFC hype machine’s propaganda hook, line, and sinker on this one; and i am going w/ yvel this fight
