The rapidly-growing Shine Fights promotion has inked another solid competitor in veteran fighter Nick "The Goat" Thompson.
Thompson had recently tried out for the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter, with hopes of getting a second shot in the UFC, but it now looks like TUF did not pan out for him.

too bad
but there’s really not much prospect of “The Goat” doing much more than sweeping through a TUF tournament and then losing to any top fighter in the division.

It would have been interesting to see how he stacked up with all the prospects in the Bellator WW tourney.

You did see what Hornbuckle did to him right?

UFC WW division isn’t really that deep, not if someone like Dan Hardy can get bitchslapped around the cage by Gono and then move onto a title shot barely a year later. And Thompson already beat a very tough WW recently in Paul Daley. I would pick The Goat to beat Jon Fitch, without question.
I used to be big on Thompson
but after watching Tim Kennedy run a grappling clinic on him before getting him to tap to punches, and seeing Dan Hornbuckle out-grapple him as well along with brutalizing him on the feet, I don’t see how you could pick The Goat in a fight with Fitch.
Just wrote about that Kennedy rapping above. That was just unreal how bad Kennedy ran shop on Thompson in that fight on bolth the feet and especially the ground. It actually would be 3 L’s in a row if not for Daley’s running out of gas in round 2 of there fight. Even still after Daley was totaly gassed Thompson could not put him away and had tons of trouble taking him down.
Not that it’s unusual, but I think a couple people might disagree with you about the UFC WW division not being deep.

Perfect type of fighter for a bracket style tournament. I continue to submit that there’s a market for this along with the reality show tournament.
Think Tuf the comeback season. That didnt work out well for reality but would have been perfect for a live action bracket tournament.
You mix in UFC “comeback” type of fighters with hot new prospects who arent reality TV material, slap the UFC logo on it and you gots a vinnar.
You can even make it based on country where a single fighter from that division represents a country to give even more of a diverse appeal… lotsa stuff lotsa stuff.
The front end could be taped where a larger batch of fighters are brought in and then they fight to make it into the tournament sort of like american idol where it goes from taped to completely live episodes after a few weeks so then you actually care and have background about the fighters.
Great way to build talent, stars and content on a different network to diversify the reach.
Dis is da fucha
"Almost nobody beats me"
And old walk out shirt of his….love it.
"If you gonna fight me, I'm gonna to heel hook you or knock you out.........or you gonna beat me..."
I don’t remember who said it, but it was pretty refreshing…
