Frank Shamrock Set to Make His Strikeforce Return This March
Mixed Martial Arts 'Legend', Frank Shamrock (23-10-2), says that he will make a return to the Strikeforce cage early this March:
The 37-year-old veteran said on a recent edition of The MMA Hour that Strikeforce has asked him to fight on a yet to be announced card "in the first week or so of March."
The fifteen year veteran, who has held titles for various promotions such as the Pancrase, UFC, WEC, and Strikeforce, is at the tail end of his career and is at the stage where he is only looking for the biggest, and most interesting match ups for him. When asked who he wants next:
"Whoever brings ratings. I need ratings. I just need some ratings,"
Which is also why he won't fight Jake Shields, who he considers as a "boring fighter, with no personality". So given that condition, who's left for Frank to fight? Scott Smith is probably the leading candidate, as he is fresh off that dramatic comeback victory over Cung Le this past week, but there are also other quality options such as Robbie Lawler, Dan Henderson, Matt Lindland, or maybe even a rematch with Cung Le.
Although it's still isn't official, a Strikeforce card on the first Saturday of March, would mean that they would again share the same date and compete with the WEC for viewership. Strikeforce still got the better ratings last time, but this would be a completely different ballgame, with WEC 47 bringing in the big guns by hosting marquee fights from Bantamweight Champ Brian Bowles, Miguel Torres, and Jens Pulver.
Either way, March is now looking to be a very busy month for MMA fans. Aside from the planned Strikeforce card, there are some big shows already lined up, such as WEC 47, UFC 111, the TUF 11 debut, and the rumored UFC card on Versus.

So...
fight Lindland?

I really wish the UFC would do some type of elder division.
There are so many wet dream matchups that the UFC could put on if they brought back some of the old guns.
That is the best match up for him now
but Lindland isn’t a “name” by any means. Robbie Lawler and Hendo are the biggest names on the ones listed in this piece, and neither one are good fights for Frank.
fight Lindland?
LOL
Frank is turning down Jake Shields for being unmarketable, and Jake is 1000 times more exciting and marketable than Woogie.
Plus, Lindland is a TERRIBLE style matchup for Frank. Frank’s wrestling is glaring hole in his game and Lindland is a world class wrestler. Frank couldn’t stop Renzo Gracie’s takedowns, what do you think would happen if he faced Lindland? Matt would completely Frank’s game and spend 15 minutes humping him like a horny dog on a stuffed animal.
The odds of Frank accepting a fight with Lindland are nil.
What a minute I heard you on Breen’s show. I thought you were a Shamrock fan?

lawler would be a good matchup, i’d like radach too. possibly even mayhem.
Franks right though, i wouldnt like to see him get humped by shields. I’m excited for shields to get clowned by Hendo, although i have a suspicion that we’re going to see shields with a pretty fantastic sub over hendo, which i would hate, but i feel like shields isnt going away
Mayhem/Shamrock makes sense.

If Frank reaallly wants ratings, we need to see the bad blood matchup
maybe at a 195 catchweight, Ken off the OJ might be able to make it that low
that was actually just cause it's also his nickname,
but now that you mentioned it, it kinda looks like a shot at him. haha.

Frank just rubs me the wrong way...
“Whoever brings ratings. I need ratings. I just need some ratings,”
This is something that you tell Coker in private, not to the media. Frank is so drunk off his own kool aid that he must have forgotten the beating he just took from Diaz.
He seems to see himself as one of the original legends of the sport, who can still compete at the highest level.
BUT…. He’s lost 3 of his last 4 fights, against mid-level competition. And of his last 4 wins, only ONE fighter (Baroni) has a winning record (barely, 13-12).
Of course, Id rather have him getting beat up on the broadcast than commentating on it. He’s no Couture, no Sakuraba, no Bas… He’s a poor man’s Tito Ortiz, with braces.
Im sorry, I just dont see how he is relevant at all in today’s MMA landscape.

That would be awesome if the March show was the Dream/Strikeforce co-promotion:
Shamrock vs. Sakaruba
Gil vs. Aoki
Thomson vs Crusher
Mach vs Diaz
Manhoef vs Lawlor
Mayhem vs Jacare
Oh, I can’t believe I’m excited for an imaginary card that won’t happen.
Not in March. Unless you are here to tell me otherwise.
Please tell me otherwise.

I think he’s definitely hungry for a rematch at Cung, and Frankly, I think he might have his number after his 3 rds and after seeing Scott Smith finally figure out that he needed to get in close and out of range of Cung’s most deadly attacks. If Cung doesn’t figure out a way to fight in the clinch more effectively, Shamrock will probably beat him knowing what he does now about Cung’s weaknesses.

if i have to see Frank make it against Ken
