A Note to Bloody Elbow Readers, re: Banning and Warning
I'm getting a lot of emails from readers who've been banned and want to know why.
Here's why: you fucked up long enough to overstay your welcome. That's why.
In order to keep the conversation level high and the community polished, a TON of moderation is required on the part of the BE staff. We (and especially me) don't particularly suffer fools gladly, so when you get a warning pay attention. By the time you've been banned and come to me asking why it's already too late.
Readers: it's very easy to get along here. Don't attack each other with epithets, don't attack fighters and if you're going to critique the staff be sure to keep it professional. The truth is feedback in the form of criticism of what we're doing is not only warranted, but necessary. But that doesn't mean you can fallback on juvenile instincts. Being an adult online and offline actually takes work, so if you're not willing to put forth the effort I can only suggest you find another site where you can comment in a manner in keeping with your expectations.
Believe me, we are happy that the site has such a vibrant community. And on the whole, the vast majority of the comments are just fine. Most of the folks who comment are great as well. But we run a tight ship around here. If that doesn't work for you, I'm sorry, but it's not changing.
It takes a lot of time and consistent effort to develop a reputation as a place for intelligent discussion. We will not trade that in for any reader or any comment any time soon. So when you get a warning, PAY ATTENTION. I also suggest talking to the person who warned you. An apology and an understanding of the infractions will take you a long way and keep you out of trouble.
You know if this does and doesn't apply to you. If it doesn't, carry on with business as usual. If it does, take a moment to evaluate what kind of behavior you want to exhibit online and whether BE is a good fit for you. If it is, come on in. If it's not, then you know what to do.
Thanks, everyone.

Do warnings about duplicate posts and poorly cited articles count toward getting banned?
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
If you’ve had like 10 of them, maybe. But you’re fine.
When a staffer/mod looks at a member’s page, they can see the full text of all previously issued warnings, so we know if the warnings were for “serious” infractions or just posting stuff in the wrong place.

That makes me happy.
I got a warning over a misunderstanding. Anton thought I was being an inappropriate douche without provocation when I was actually just continuing a movie reference from the article. I feel more comfortable knowing that you guys see a miscommunication rather than “He’s been warned before, boot ’im.”

Bravo
Forget about MMA, this is one of the few websites with a productive user generated content. A lot of that has to do with the SBnation format, but its also because the people who act like 7th graders get banned.
Im sorry Scott Haber!!!!
For calling Cerrone a dirty dirty cheater. Dont hate me. It was anger.

You have to work
at getting a ban. I know I have had several (more than 5) posts deleted. I still have not received a warning.
Use your head to debate, ignore the trolls, and please please please give us your opinion. I know not everyone agrees with me, nor do I them, but that is what is great about BE.
I don’t agree with a lot of the members here on BE but the share my love and passion for MMA. It is no different than a Cowboy or Redskin fan hating on each other but in the end they both love the NFL.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
I think saying you have to work to get banned is the wrong message. Getting posts hidden is not the same thing as receiving a warning. Posts get hidden pretty frequently.

Seven’s actually a pretty low number for someone who comments a lot.
Bolts from the Blue // "I have got to be the most boring GM in the league." - A.J. Smith
Bloody Elbow // " looks like your comment violated rule #4. and it’s a heck of a rule, rule #4" - Kid Nate

I can only remember being warned once. Not totally sure, though.

I’m beginning to suspect that I’m very boring.

Your warning wasn’t a real warning. It even says “this is not a real warning.”

Oh, yeah. I forgot.
I’m even more boring than I feared.

We’re talking hidden comments not warnings. If he had seven warnings he’d be long since gone.

Are you saying he has 70 hidden comments because he’s young and out of control?

It’s hard coming into different forums and 90% of the posts are insulting, ignorant and juvenile. Thanks again BE for giving us the opportunity to have intelligent conversation about the sport we love.
