Quote of the Day: Don Frye - "I'm Quitting MMA. I'm Done With It"
"I’m pretty much quitting MMA. I’ve had enough of the (expletive). I’m done with it. The competitive urges still flow through me, but I’m tired of the (expletive) of the promoters... I’m tired of the (expletive) treatment, being lied to and tired of getting bounced checks from people. They can go pound sand as far as I’m concerned."
"The fight game isn’t a respectful profession any more. They’ve made a mockery out of it by letting Jose Canseco fight, and now Hershel Walker, and all these other jackasses in their 40’s who have never fought... They’re getting paid more than the guys who have been putting years into it. It’s an embarrassment and a shame."
"I’ve had a hell of a run. I appreciate the fans. Bob Meyrowitz was a great promoter back when he ran the UFC; he treated the fighters with respect. I had a great time in Japan. I’ve got nothing to complain about."
"What a great time I’ve had. I wish I could do more for the fans. I wish I could come back for another one, but until the promoters straighten out, they can all go pound sand."
--Don 'The Predator' Frye (20-8-1), at 44 years of age, says he's done with MMA, and will look to pursue his acting career full-time.

Still a Legend
This man is a legend, along side his moustache. You’ll be missed Don, best of luck in all your ventures.
And man, he knows how to shit on everybody, huh?

Thanks for the memories, Predator. Your fights were awesome, but some of the shit you’ve said has been even better . My favorite Don Frye non-fighting memory is from the Decade of Pride DVD, when he talks about meeting Wanderlei Silva in a parking lot and just assuming they were going to fight. Instead, Wandy offered him a piece of gum.

It’s awesome, you can watch the whole thing on youtube, and Don’s interviews and comments are priceless. He’s like the old war veteren just telling it like it is. He makes all the old stuff seem magical.

2 Don Frye posts in 2 days
I’m starting to have some serious moustache-inadequacy issues

Blew me too
I had to STOP Public Enemies just to rewind back to the G-Men getting out the train to DOUBLE CHECK if that was the Predator. He didn’t say much though, which kinda bites
I think he was cast because he was the only one who came mustache-ready, and no other mustache real or fake could compare

yeah, maybe this could all turn out to be a Rampage type of 'retirement'
but on the other hand, he is 44…
by Anton Tabuena on Dec 24, 2009 12:55 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah actually
I recently saw he had a small role on “Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia” in the episode “The Gang Wrestles for the Troops.” Mac and Dennis go to a wrestling show early in the episode and you get a fleeting glimpse of Don getting his ass kicked in the ring

if Don Frye isnt fighting anymore, MMA should never grace American soil ever again! Done Frye is an American HERO!!!!!!! Someone better get on the mustache growing train ASAP
I guess this means
the MMA sky is actually falling. Theres only one way to save us now…

Unless...
Sir Don Frye IS santa. Think about it, the guy is retiring on Christmas Eve! Suspicious. I bet he comes back the 26th and says he was fooling around and is ready to MMA America once more.

Wow, I didn’t realize that Couture was older than Frye.

The first time I read of this fight I was thinking “nah, no f’n way they really did that, maybe one or two punches but that’s it.” Then I found it online and when I saw how big Takayama was (during the staredown) I was even more suspicious. “When anyone gets punched in the face by a guy that big they’re going down and staying there.” Then they locked up and started putting the hurt on each other…
Seven different shades of pure awesome.
If Frye hadn’t done anything more during his career, that fight alone would make him a legend. Fortunately, there is so much more…

Mike Haggar was ridiculous, pile driving people into the ground.
I wonder if Don has ever heard/seen this game, would be a funny interview.
Haha
I’ve been calling Frye Haggar since like 96.

That’s even better than Wandy-Crocop, Wandy-Rampage I and Wandy-Rampage II combined – and that’s saying something.

Don Frye is retiring? Damn. I am so depressed, I am going to go pound sand now.
I love me some Sexyama!
Don Frye should get Frank Shamrocks announcing job.
Nobody in MMA makes me laugh like Don.
The broadcasting team could use his great insights into all of life’s mysteries.
The Voice, Don Frye and Gus Johnson, just because Gus will say ridiculous things, the voice will be super excited and Don Frye’s moustache will give them a certain air of respectability.
Also the Sherdog moustache thread is pretty much one of the best sherdog threads I’ve ever read. 9/10 highly recommended.
Its always sad to see a legend retire but I’m glad to see him retire while he still has some dignity. His best days were clearly far behind him but he never really embarrassed himself like Ken Shamrock has.
Go Leafs and Bruins!

A tragic day indeed.
I cant remember where or when but I read a comedians story about how he met Don Frye in an airport and basically hung out with him for awhile. It sounded as though he really is exactly as he appears to be, mentality wise, but is a super nice guy. Don is the man and I could see him having some acting success with a voice and a moustache like that.

Oh trust me Don you’ve done more than enough! Enjoy your retirement.
Hes probably rich just from his fights in Japan...
So now he can just chillax. He does have a great bum voice though, he could do pro-bono phone sex work as a good joke.
