Hollywood won’t be satisfied until every film and TV show from my childhood has been desecrated.

Hollywood has some kind of remake/reboot fetish. They won’t stop untill every original idea has been turned into a new crap movie.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.
Hollywood only gets half the blame. When the public stops making these movies turn profits…then we’ll see a change.

It's not just Hollywood.
And it’s not a recent thing.

Like the people on this site could have kids.
I mean, seriously.

Okay wow, where do I begin? Jackie Chan is awesome, he would kick the old Mr. Miyagi’s ass easily. It sucks that Jackie is taking on these roles, I doubt we will ever see him in a big action movie like Rumble in Bronx again. Rightfully so, he has destroyed his body for our entertainment and now he deserves a break. Obviously this whole movie was just some kind of ploy by Will Smith to get his son into acting, why remake the Karate Kid? There is no need! The first movie still holds up to today’s standards. At least they have Jackie Chan in the movie.
Also, wouldn’t it be awesome to see Jackie (in his 20’s) fight in MMA? I bet he would be champion of his respective division. And I know I am going to blasted for this comment with stuff like “he has no ground skills”.

I think it is called Kung-Fu Kid this time instead of Karate Kid.

Then that is just plain stupid.

Well, that was a forgone conclusion.

I think the Japanese will be slightly confused as well. What a ridiculous thing to do.

Kung fu, Karate – big deal. Nobody around here seems to mind that half of Machia’s “Karate” moves aren’t even Karate at all.

You're about a decade too late with your comment.

When you see some of the ridiculous comments on here
The line between sarcasm and idiocy gets blurred.

I’m gonna predict was gonna happen in the movie
Jackie Chan: This is the way of Karate
Kid: I will learn it
Bad Guy: Karate Sucks
Kid: AW HELL NAW (Will Smith acting is hereditary)
Some badly coreographed shakycam fights
Jackie Chan: You have learned the ways of Karate
Cameo by Ralph Macchio
END
well expect to see
the general public to know even less about the differences of mainland chinese culture and japanese culture after watching this…. I can see my wifes family at our next dinner bringing this up…
come on… it’s a movie… for kids…

that’s supposed to justify cultural butchering?

Jesus.
I suppose this I can live with though. The day they remake The Goonies is the day I become a hermit.
the only reason I can see anyone watching this movie
is because of Jackie Chan….

Then you’re severely underestimating the impact that Will Smith doing a media tour will have on this.

See something like this – the age in which it was filmed might not have done it full justice, therefore a remake kind of makes sense. Karate Kid doesn’t – in any way shape or form.
but the Karate Kid was done in the 80’s, we have watched that movie as kids (most of us), but the new generation have not. I’m not going to lie, when I was a kid I loved the Karate Kid, kids from today will probably enjoy this new version as well. It’s not intended for the audience that watched the original one.

This movie is going to be a big, flashy, expensive turd. Just looks cool

I remember reading about this last year in Variety... dear god... it is even worse when you see it.
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
Who cares?
Karate Kid was a part of the childhood of any who grew in the ’80’s but its not exactly sacred. if this blows and disappears quickly then all for the better. No one will remember it in a decade anyhow.

Casting failure, I’m sorry. Jackie Chan is okay but Will Smiths son? No. O_O
DO NOT WANT! WILL NOT WATCH!

Oh, why not. It didn’t look terrible for what it was, and it CERTAINLY could have been a lot worse. I’ll probly go watch it just for Jackie Chan.

This doesn’t look bad. I’m glad they remade it. Back then, the old one was awesome.. one of the most inspirational movies, but if you watch it now, it’s horrible.
