The Top MMA Stories of the Decade: The Crimes of Lee Murray
Sherdog named the tale of Lee Murray the #7 MMA story of the decade:
7. Lee Murray (2002-Present)
If you can’t get enough of prizefighting and crime stories, the idea of a talented puncher wrapped up in one of the biggest money heists in history should be enough to completely arrest your attention. And it did: Lee Murray’s hop from mid-card attraction to antihero seized headlines from ESPN, Sports Illustrated and a full-length book, "Heist," which documents Murray’s (alleged) master plan to walk away with over $92 million in bank robbery winnings. He fled to Morocco; he was thrown in prison; he walked out of prison; he bought tacky, gold-plated furnishings; he inspired a kind of perverse reverence among observers who had to admire his audacity. Murray is not the sport’s only personality, but he’s perhaps the only one worth making a movie about. And that’s coming soon.
If you haven't already seen it, in the full entry is ESPN 360's classic segment on Murray and the heist. I've also included the full video of his epic bout against Anderson Silva from Cage Rage.
The guy may be a criminal mastermind, but in his hey day he was a very talented MMA fighter. Damn shame he threw it all away.

So where is he now? In jail? In a gold-plated mansion?

Absolutely happened
Pat Miletich was there and it was confirmed in Matt Hughes auto-bio.

You can watch Militech tell the story in the video

So did Dana ever bust him out like he said he was going to?

The Silva fight is interesting
He clearly wasn’t as confident in his striking at the time. He was trying to get Murrary to come into his guard…
It’s also odd to see Silva attempt so many take downs. When’s the last time Silva offensively wrestled in a fight?

The announcers were terrible
I never noticed that before I guess and the belt and the trophy look like they were purchased at the dollar store.

To everyone out there that says all MMA fighters are just stupid fighters
Look at Lee Murray’s story, although he did get caught and he is in jail, took a lot of brains to do what he did. Was it illegal? Absolutely. But did it require tons of planning and intelligence? Also absolutely

maybe if you want to defend the image of MMA fighters, murray isn’t the best example to pick

yeah i know, it does feel weird defending him for what he did because by no means do i support it, but the amount of planning to pull off a heist that big takes an astounding amount of effort

Lee is still in jail so he didn’t get away with it but the cool part is no one was harmed or killed. Screw the banks, if your gonna steal take from the thieves..the banks. Can’t wait to see the movie.
if youre going to steal

If Jacques Audiard is going to do an English language movie, maybe this would be the one. Or maybe Michael Man (he did Thief and HEAT after all).
No, wait. Lee is from London. Neil Jordan.
you guys are speculating pointlessly
Aronofsky’s on the job.
Homestly, I thought this was widely reported enough that guesswork was done.

Just to clear up...
Murray is in jail in Morocco for an unrelated offence.
He is the only suspect left in the bank heist case who hasn’t been convicted.
A ripped up Brazilian flag.
Evidently, Murray tore it up in the press conference, and Anderson saved it and gave it to him. He wasn’t going to let that kind of disrespect get to him.
(Maybe after their fight, Manny can give Floyd some used needles.)
