Funny thing is that Gilbert Yvel just received his Purple Belt in BJJ very recently. I have not seen Yvel ever use any type of BJJ skills in MMA.

I got to be honest
I have no clue who that is in the photo.
But I thought Josh was a “catch wrestler” and that BJJ was inferior? I thought he had no use for the Gi? /sarcasm. IMO if you don’t train in the Gi(i.e. catch wrestlers and eddie bravo) you shouldn’t be awarded belts. The whole purpose of the belt is to tie around your Gi. So, if you don’t respect the Gi, then you shouldn’t wear a belt rank.

I seen places were people just tie the belt around there waist without a gi. You don’t need the gi to wear the belt. Look at all those old school full contact karate guys, they wore gi pants and there belts to the ring, but no gi top.

If only it would stop glowing in the dark.
I remember back in the 80s that martial arts instructors would talk a lot about honor and hard work and not taking shortcuts. I mean, we can all agree that Josh has put in the mat time and performed at a black belt level, but is the concept of being a martial artist compatible with repeatedly being caught cheating? I don’t think any of my old senseis would approve.
(And not the heat-of-the-moment illegal kick or knee sort of cheating, but the spending months procuring, shooting up and then trying to cover up anabolic steroids kind. And yes, I know I sound like a broken record.)
