So is cung le overrated, or is scott smith underrated? Maybe just the right mix of each. Or a fluke due to cungs absence

The former. Scott Smith is entertaining, but he’s no world beater. He comes up short every time he fights someone in the top 20 (I’m guessing on the #. I don’t have time to do the research.) And when he does win, it’s often at the expense of countless brain cells. His ability to take a punch… or 2… or 233 may be underrated, but his skill level certainly isn’t. He’s great to watch, but he’d fair worse in the UFC now than he did 3 years ago.
Cung Le was getting hit a lot in the Shamrock fight right before it was stopped, and Smith has a hell of a lot more power than Shamrock does. I think Le just has a tendency to tire out by the third and let his guard down, whereas Smith needs about 13 minutes of punishment before he decides to go for a KO.
Overall it was just a bad combination for Le, but I’m glad it happened – maybe now he’ll take the sport a bit more seriously. I have my doubts though.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

cung le sucks… is he really even “rated” though? It seems most people watch him because of his style and how different it is. Not because he is a top 10/20/30 middle weight.
Smith is a UFC washout who puts on entertaining fights. Isn’t UFC caliber… but perfect for these type of shows, although the fact is he main eventing one constantly is… odd.
When you quit being too cool for the room and just let yourself enjoy it, you’ll see that it was a really entertaining fight. I don’t give a shit if Smith can’t beat anybody in the UFC, I know that I’ll watch everytime he fights.
I’m sure some people are just being elitist about it, but personally, I don’t enjoy sloppy fights. I didn’t enjoy Kimbo/Houston, Le/Smith (other than the kicks), and Cyborg/Manhoef. That’s it. They don’t excite me in the least. MMA is an art form and all of us have different taste in art. Taste doesn’t make anyone a better or more knowledgeable fan.
The UFC actually has a similar fighter to Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith in Middleweight in Drew “The Massacre” McFedries (not in heart, but in that they both stand and bang). I think that one always needs your Scott Smiths, Chris Lebens, Drew McFedries’, etc in any MMA promotion. Contrary to popular belief, the UFC actually has a good amount of Scott Smith level fighters; they aren’t top fighters or anything, but they do serve a purpose.
Great finish
You have to be a fan of watching scott smith fight with all the action fights he’s been in. Definitely always gonna get fights with strikeforce, good for him.

Scott Smith is very well spoken and a great analist.
He can put what he’s thinking and the mechanics of the fight into words VERY well. I’ve heard a few interviews before, but this one was particularly impressive. Very good on the mic.
Could be an analyst/therapist combo.. You know, an analrapist
