WEC 45 Post Fight: Ed Ratcliff and Donald Cerrone Talk About the Multiple Groin Shots

In the main event of WEC 45, Donald Cerrone submitted a very game Ed Ratcliff on the third round. This was of course before Ed "9mm" Ratcliff suffered not one, not two, but three illegal shots to the groin that would have surely made most men quit. He could've just gone home with a DQ victory, but he decided to continue and try to finish the fight, which also led to a $10,000 Fight of the Night bonus for both men. Ratcliff spoke about fighting through the pain and not giving up:
"There was never a point in time where I was going to quit. I needed a little time, for sure. I mean it didn't feel good. But never did it cross my mind that I'm about to go home right now."
"I know it wasn't intentional. Something like that, you can tell when it's intentional. You can look in another man's eyes and see where his mindset is at. It wasn't. It's part of the game, so it is what it is."
Donald Cerrone, who was docked two points for the illegal blows, gained more respect for his opponent, but also had to deal with a furious Mrs. Ratcliff who got angry after seeing her son take all those shots:
"I was telling her, 'I'm sorry, ma'am; I'm not doing this intentionally. She was, like, legitimately mad... I was like, 'I'm not doing it on purpose. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Calm down. Don't get me when I get out of the cage.'"
...
"You can see in a man's eyes if they're folding or quitting or breaking. Ed every time was just like, 'Damn this sucks' and was trying to shake it off when he went down. But he kept looking at me like, 'No, I'm coming. I'm coming.' That's why I was getting fired up because he was over there like, 'Yeah, let's do this.' It was good."
"My hat's off to him. There's no quit in that dude. There's going to be some great fights to see with him, and I'm excited to see him keep fighting. ... He could have quit the fight at any time and got me disqualified. He didn't. My hat's off to the dude. He brought it just like he said he would"

Nice to see someone on this site devoting any coverage to the WEC, even if it is in the fanshots.

I wish Zuffa televised the fights here too though..
I hate having to watch crappy-not-so-legal streams, and it would be GREATTTT to have free UFC and WEC shows..

Don't feel bad......
I’m IN America and can’t watch WEC because Comcast and DirecTv haven’t finished their pissing contest yet.

I love Cerrone
but is he going to become “that guy” when it comes to illegal blows??
Inadvertent as they may be, he seems to have an awful lot of them recently. What’s the deal??
If you can't laugh at yourself... Who can you laugh at?
The Packers, that’s who.
