Strikeforce Results: "Jacare" Souza Submits Matt Lindland With Head and Arm Triangle Choke

Photo by Dave Mandel via Sherdog

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom has never looked better.

While there might be legitimate questions about what the Olympic silver medalist in Matt Lindland actually has left, there is no question Jacare has plenty to offer in MMA.

Jacare will never be a K-1 striker, but he did appear to have a decent use of the jab and even shrugged off clinch attempts from Lindland to continue striking. Eventually, however, Jacare pulled a Karo Parisyan and used a double wristlock takedown to back giveaway to land on top. He was able to transition to an oma plata from guard and while Lindland tried an oma plata of his own, Jacare used a clever punch-pass combination to get to side control.

From there it was all Jacare. Souza eventually passed to the other side landing a head an arm triangle that forced Lindland to tap.

Jacare wins at 4:18 of round one.

Bring on Shields. I still want to see Jacare and Maia fight in a MMA bout.

Would be a hard fight for Maia. Jacare’s striking looked sharp.

"Let me hear you say jiu-jitsu, jiu-jitsu"

I don’t know why these smaller promotions have commentors with no respect for guys that don’t speak english. What an idiot.

I can’t be the only one that loved it when Lindland went for that omoplata.

Impressive. I’m not sure if I should be impressed with the stand-up that he showed, or if Lindland just looked that bad on his feet. Possibly a fight with Lawler, or give another shot at Mayhem while Shield’s and Hendo fight.

Jacare does train with Anderson Silva, so I would think that his standup would improve a lot training with him.

Why can’t people spell it right? It’s “omoplata” in one word, not “oma plata”, “uma plata”, or anything else.
