Frank Shamrock talks Jake Shields: (at the 2:20 min mark)
"I don’t want to fight Jake Shields because he has no personality, he’s a boring fighter, and when he got on to CBS, and it was his chance to be a star, he leg humped [Jason "Mayhem" Miller] all night long, and killed our ratings. That’s why I don’t want to fight Jake Shields"

i hate this talk
maybe I’m naieve but Jake Sheilds is a jiu jitsu fighter, its what he does best, why on earth should he NOT use that in his fights to win? I hate when someone’s strenghts is something like this and people give him shit because he’s “boring.” Last time I checked he’s won 13 straight fights with wins over Mayhem, Robbie Lawler, Paul “the UFC loves me” Daley, Nick Thompson, Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, Dave Menne, and Mach Sakurai. In Frank’s last few fights he got beat a gassed and one-dimensional Phil Baroni, got taken apart by Cung Le, and then by Nick Diaz.
Shields might not be the flashest fighter, he might not be the most charismatic, but he gets into the cage, performs, he can finish fights, is tough, and oh yeah – he wins. Maybe its because I like Shields more than other fighters, but an old-school MMA guy like Frank Shamrock should be ashamed for putting down Shields because he has more substance than style. I personally think the sports need more technicians like Shields who constantly work on their game, challenge themselves in weight classes, and keeps winning.
That said, I think a Shields vs. Shamrock fight would be awesome now. So I guess Frank did his job.

I give credit to where credit is due: Jake can win fights. But that doesn’t mean he’s not boring. It’s just an opinion. I prefer a BJJ fighter like Damien Maia. Much more exciting.
I love me some Sexyama!

I agree with you, though Shields has been pretty dull to me lately, but I love watching Maia, Jacare, Hazelett, so I’m fine with guys fighting their fight. So don’t let it get you down :) No one cares what Frank thinks,

ugh..
ok so even if sheild’s stand up is horrific, he somehow finds a way to win through his jiu jitsu. But what could frank possible offer him? besides another mouth full of crap I mean.. he is like a worse version of a dilusional alan belcher.. If you dont know how great and amazing Frank is, just ask him. He will tell you all about it
The Yushin Okami paradox
A guy who keeps fn winning but can’t put fans in the seats.
I’m training cardio and how to wing my punches in an exciting fan favoring way right now. Hopefully the UFC comes knocking on my door to fight chris lytle
I'm not calling him dad, even if theres a fire

That's not enough.
You gotta make sure your head movement is either completely nonexistent or wildly exaggerated. Or already be a champion.

Ive been training for such trust me...
Think Happy Gilmore training for hockey
I'm not calling him dad, even if theres a fire
That's why I don't want to fight him.
Also, he’s pretty damned good, and I’m already pushing the limits of being “The Legend.”
50% more Ultimate than the leading competitor.
what makes Shields exciting is his style
the slick submission jiu jitsu game he has makes his move to middleweight interesting because he is a master of winning by submission, which is the one great way of overcoming a size difference. Not always, but its a nice tool to have.
If I were Strikeforce, this is what I would do. . .
-Jake Shields vs. Frank Shamrock for MW Title just to help make Shields a name
-Cung Le vs. Robbie Lawler
-Dan Henderson vs. Jake Shields for MW Title
Hendo/Shields winner vs. Cung/Lawler winnner
Fun and interesting fights all around.
I can see where at this point in his career Shamrock is more interested in putting on a show and promoting strikeforce than his rankings.
He didnt say Jake Sheilds wasn’t legitimate he just suggested that he would rather be in more exciting fights at this point. Sure it’s harsh the way he puts it but he’s not the first fighter to talk about the importance of putting on a show over securing a lackluster victory. His record isn’t nearly as important to him anymore as his paycheque and as long as he doesnt start making caims he can’t back up, Im all for fighters who go out to put on a show.

Someone should remind Shamrock that he’s no longer relevant.

Jake Shields needs them too. Have you seen his grill?

Everything Frank said was true...
Why even a fight a guy who is a charisma black hole? This is a organization that desperately needs to put on exciting shows. I think Hendo vs Shields is a must.
Because he has a title?

To the fighter that is. to fans and Ratings its excitng fights and fighters with charisma and a personality. Its strike Forces own fault putting the shields vs Mayhem Miller fight on that CBS card especially in the spot before Fedros fight. Even befroe the showpeople were sayin that fight had decision odss are boring decision written all over it.
What happens when two black holes meet each other?
by dancingChicken on Dec 19, 2009 5:06 AM EST up reply actions
Your Answer When 2 binary black holes collide the one that is more massive will eat the other becoming even more massive itself.
So if Hendo beats Shields he will become even more blunt? God damn…

Heres an idea.....
If these fighters dont want to be in a “boring” ground war with Jake Shields maybe they should work on their takedown defense. I like stand up brawls as much as anybody but I am tired of the Shields hate.

rec'd for sure...
since i am so damn tired of listening to people bitch about the boring wrestlers instead of the imbeciles they face that can’t sprawl to save their life. or the matchmakers for that matter. It’s definitely not the guy’s fault who’s just playing to his strength. If his strength is knocking people’s heads off, everything’s ok….so let’s not knock the guys who have different strengths, or go watch some effing K-1.
There’s Jiu Jitsu and then there’s lay-n-pray.
Mayhem should have been the winner of that fight, not Shields.
by Polyh3dron on Dec 18, 2009 11:04 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Because he decisioned a MW that couldn’t be submitted by Jacare, even though he fights best at WW? After submitting Lawler (another MW), Thompson, Daley, and Pyle. Do you have amnesia, or choose to just ignore all his other fights?
by Swordslasher on Dec 19, 2009 12:03 AM EST up reply actions
Honesty coupled with the unsaid “because he’d beat me”. I agree with pretty much everything Frank said, but I and pretty sure 99% of the betting public would put money on Shields in that fight on anything around +350 or better.

Fixed
The only thing Jon Jones does better than Matt Hamill is hear.
(And smash faces)
Hmm...
He can say what he wants, but he still wants nothing to do with Shields’ ground game. Miller seems to have rubber limbs, and is extremely difficult to submit (as we learned yet again), but I have little doubt Shields would be able to sub Frank at some point.
However, he’s really free to say whatever he wants, even if he’s often times borderline delusional.

Please go away, Frank.
Frank isn’t even a top-25 fighter…and now he’s saying he wouldn’t take a chance to win the belt if given a shot?
Anybody else just not following Frank’s logic? If you’re not trying to fight and beat the best, then why fight?
Or maybe the dental plan?

Not sure that adds up
Neither guy said they wouldn’t fight someone.

As if Frank would stand a chance against Shields. He does not, he knows it and his pride won’t allow him to STFU. I have an idea, Frank – just go away. The only interesting fight you have left is against Ken – and that’s interesting for all the wrong reasons.

Jake already attacked Frank pretty heavilly...
so I don’t really have a problem with Frank calling Jake boring… He is extremely boring on occasion … him vs. Fitch would probably cause a lapse in the space and time continuum.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
kinda funny that someone without a relevant win this decade can criticize another fighter on a double digit win streak…
by longevity on Dec 19, 2009 9:50 AM EST via mobile reply actions
It's not criticizing
if he’s speaking the truth… A fighter doesn’t get a reputation as being a boring fighter unless he has shown as such. Shamrock is not the first guy to say it…. Shields is pretty boring and he sure as hell won’t be drawing any ratings anytime soon…
i'm pretty sure this is reverse psychology
frank would definately be a game opponent for shields… he hasnt been in action much recently against top tier opponents, but if his knee is healed he could comparably grapple with shields, and definately has the striking advantage, along with strength and weight. I rewatched the fight with Cung, and Frank definately had some good exchanges.
I think whats most important, is that frank loves himself. he see’s an opportunity to talk shit about shields, that he doesnt want to fight him and build some talk and bad blood, when in actuality he’d love to have an opportunity at the belt. Once Hendo comes in, the MW division is his. Frank may have one last shot at what he feels is a good matchup
