Top 40 UFC Fights of 2009
Since it is that time of year, I figured I would fire the first shot at the "The Fights of the Year". Instead of tackling the entire MMA World, I felt a great jumping off point would be exclusively looking at the UFC. So here are the "Top 40 Fights of 2009 in the UFC", based primarily on the fight itself (obviously), but also factoring in intangibles like title fights, number one contender fights, make or break fights, etc...This is almost an impossible list to agree on, so let the argument begin....

Mir/Kongo wasn’t really much of a fight. Where’s Silva/Griffin? Jones/Bonnar? Pearson/Riley? Pretty good list though.

Silva/Griffin wasn't much of a fight. It was just Anderson bitch slapping Forrest for 3 minutes.
ME! BANE!
Agree, but still more of a fight than some others on the list. Jardine/Silva, Mir/Kongo, etc. Everybody’s got there own definition, but a back and forth war is almost always better than a quick destruction. Evans/Machida wasn’t much of a fight either by that criteria, and yet I loved it :)

Kudos on putting together a list, expect lots of nitpicking.
This is a pretty solid list, reminds me of a lot of great scraps that we had in the past 12 months. Here’s my nitpicking!
I think Jardine Rampage was a lot better than you’re giving it credit for here, and same with Marquardt vs Gouveia. Also, you loves some TUF9 Finale, don’t you?
Add:
Coleman vs Shogun (93)
Koscheck vs Thiago (95)
Gonzaga vs Carwin (96)
Hughes vs Serra (98)
Struve vs Stojnic (99)
Akiyama vs Belcher (100)
Maia vs Marquardt (102)
Foster vs Story (103)
Daley vs Kampmann (103)
Dos Santos vs Cro Cop (103)
Hardy vs Swick (105)
Lil Nog vs Cane (106)
Buentello vs Struve (107)
Subtract:
4) Quarry vs Credeur (Fight Night 9/16)
5) Franklin vs W. Silva (99)
8) Lytle vs Burns (Tuf US/UK Finale)
15) Edgar vs Sherk (98)
16) Florian vs Guida (107)
18) Brown vs Wilks (105)
20) Jackson vs Jardine (96)
25) Koscheck vs Johnson (106)
27) Rosholt vs Leben (102)
29) Belfort vs Franklin (103)
36) Nelson vs Schaub (TUF 10 Finale)
37) Belcher vs Gouveia (107)
39) Mir vs Kongo (107)

CQ
Only fight in my mind that beat Quarry Credeur was Sanchez Guida
That fight night card was loaded with great fights (as evidenced by 3 top 40’s)
