Is Cung Le really bigger than Smith or is it CGI?

King Mo + Burberry umbrella + warehouse = Strikeforce promo?
Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.
Doesn't make sense to me
but I dig it. :)
My motto,
As I live and learn,

Shit, I think the warehouse is more telling than the “Strikeforce” text in the bottom right corner.

I am pretty sure the umbrella is King Mo’s idea.

Nope
This will be a good tune up fight for Le’s comeback……He’s gonna pick Smith apart and look good doing it.
by ultimoshogun on Dec 18, 2009 7:52 PM EST up reply actions
Smith does look very small. I thought he had a little more mass than that. His pecs are virtually non-existent.
Cung’s got those movie pecs now. A lot of good strikers don’t have the pecs, they got shoulders, waist and back.
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.
Smith
Does not look even close to size comparison to Le

Very nice girls by the way. Had a chance to talk to them (well the ones that worked the Chicago show anyway) and they were all cool.

LOL
If the camera is just focusing on the girls in the mean time, I just see a win-win situation here.
=)

Someone should do the responsible journalistic thing and ask them if they’ve been contacted by the UFC about filling the ring girl opening (yes I’m aware that this will illicit multiple jokes revolving around “filling the ring girl opening”.)
Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.
Hendo and Nick Diaz should be there too.

Wow, this is so bush league.
Strikeforce has run a couple dozen shows before, right? They should theoretically know how to do weigh-ins?
LOL, very LOW priority on weigh-ins on their part. Always been the case.
by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 18, 2009 8:28 PM EST up reply actions
What does that even mean?
They intentionally hack it? That’s likely.

Listen I like Strikeforce as much as anyone but this does seem disorganized.

no...
They just don’t put a ton of emphasis on running it smoothly. It’s weird…but true.

I think we are used to being treated differently.
They’re just trying to get official weights and move forward. UFC weigh ins create a spectacle with blaring music, Joe Rogan screaming, and a huge crowd. Different approaches. I like UFCs more, personally. Makes you really want the fights.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
I understand having different approaches
But there always seems to be confusion— guys not knowing when to step up or which way to walk after they weigh-in, awkward faceoff’s. It’s just a little weird.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."
-Sakuraba
They don't care about that though.
It’s not a publicity event, it’s not fight hype, it doesn’t need to be choreographed. Get your weight done so the ACs record it and move on. That seems to be their mentality at least. I’m not sure why they steam them when that’s their philosophy though. Maybe just for the sake of transparency?
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Choreographed?
It’s almost as though you’d have to try to make it awkward to prove you’re not choreographed. Walk this way, way in, standoff here, walk out. That’s choreography? Alright.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."
-Sakuraba
That's almost the definition of choreography.
Per wikipedia:
Choreography is the art of designing sequences of movements in which motion, form, or both are specified.
They just care that they get on the scale, make weight, and get of for the next guy. And that they go to the rules meeting in the room next door I guess? UFC has a full sound crew and directs fighters on what’s expected of them to make it a spectacle and hype event. Strikeforce weigh ins are the formalities of getting your fighters cleared by the AC. UFC weigh ins are advertisements.
Like I said above, if this is what SF does, they shouldn’t stream it. A live text feed would suffice unless it’s solely for transparency. UFC kicks Strikeforce weigh ins ass.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Oh my god
Did you seriously just define choreography to me? Be serious man..
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."
-Sakuraba
Dude.
Walk this way, way in, standoff here, walk out. That’s choreography?

I could have just said “Yeah, that’s choreography” but I’m a fan of evidence.

-Randall Munroe
You're a fan of the ridiculous
I had a party at my studio last weekend and told people where to leave their coats, where to enter and where to find drinks. Now I’m a choreographer. Geez..

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeah.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."

In case the main event fighters miss weight.
Gives them as much time as possible to make it. I think that was the reason last time I checked.
by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 18, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions
Are they doing this backwards?
Or did I just catch a replay?
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."
-Sakuraba
They do this in case the main event fighters don’t make weight, they will have enough time to lose the weight. I believe that is what I heard.

Dana needs to poach the ring girl on the right.

Are Lighty/Britt main card now?
"I’m sorry. I didn’t drink last night, so I’m not funny today."

Okay
At least that way they can promote a good fight instead of having to show Britt/Lighty.

When Coker told him he would be fighting Mo at 265, he ate all of his own Boy Scout chocolate bars. Now he has to win, because he owes then like 120 dollars!

Watching these weigh ins made me think
I wonder how many fighters will miss weight for 108? It’s a whole new angle on the curse that hadn’t even occured to me before
Eff off, sir.
That’s the last thing we want to hear. Especially since Thiago Silva is rumored to have an injured ankle which would impair a lot of his conditioning work. If we get Rashad vs. Thiago at Kimboweight, I actually might not buy the card. And I buy every card.

To each their own
At this point, I’m just enjoying watching the trainwreck that is this card unfold. Bottom line is, even if there’s only a few big names, and some of the fights are at catchweight, I’ll still have an enjoyable night of fights.
So much has happened, I think it’s best to just drop all my expectations and see what ends up happening.
Yeah...
I believe he had a knee injury of some sort.

I think he probably had a smaller walking around weight for that fight, why I believe here he is weighing in at his sitting around weight.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
Am I the only one that hopes Whitehead humbles the shit outta king mo via crucifix with 25 plus unanswered blows?(just like velasquez vs o’brien)
by longevity on Dec 19, 2009 9:45 AM EST via mobile reply actions
We'll see tonight
Whitehead is a well-rounded fighter who just never put it all together like he was expected to. But he’s arguably the biggest test of Mo’s career and I’ve been waiting for Mo to make strides. He just hasn’t impressed me much in his Sengoku fights.
