damn
that is one stacked tournament.
I actually think its pretty smart of these guys to sign with Bellator — AS LONG AS THE FIGHTS HAPPEN — which is the big gamble.
But as far as making a name for yourself, much easier to do in this tourny up against several other similar hot prospects rather than grinding your way through the UFC undercards and taking the risk of being thrown in against Koscheck or Fitch out of the blue.

Yeah.., kind of like mike pierce… Go from fighting Brock Larson to the #2 welterweight

Pretty sure that was punishment.
Beat a guy who was popular from WEC and they want to build in UFC? You gotta fight Fitch. Knock Koscheck, a great heel and solid draw, off hit track for title contention with a brutal uppercut-bitchslap combo? You gotta fight Fitch. Take a UD over a TUF winner at middleweight and want to move down to welter? You better believe you’re gonna fight Fitch.

Nice
I love how everyone thinks a fighter is a bum after he loses a few fights. A few months ago some people would have argued that Larson could win a fight with Fitch, before his two consecutive losses.

It's not just two consecutive losses.
It’s how awful he looked, particularly in the second one. I felt a little bad watching that.
That’s not the topic, though. I’m saying that when Pierce fought him, he was very highly regarded and it was a big win and now it’s being made to seem that going from him to Fitch was akin to standing in front of a firing squad.

I was addressing this quote:

I know that USMMA fans do that way too much, but it’s fair here because he looked like a bum against Foster. The first grounded kick was ridiculous, and he was getting tooled on through two rounds.
As for your main point… isn’t it? Aside from Alves, GSP, and Koscheck, are there any welterweights in the UFC who can reasonably beat him? Larson (borderline top 15 at the time) to Swick or Kampmann (fringe top 10 at the time) would have been more reasonable than leaping to the consensus number 2 who is the Rich Franklin of the division. Pierce wasn’t really a contender yet, and nobody should have to fight Fitch unless they get GSP immediately upon winning. Alves excluded. I maintain that fighting post-GSP Jon Fitch is punishment for winning fights you weren’t supposed to.
Yeah
Fitch can only fight GSP annually, otherwise it’s punishment.

He's a problem for the division.
Alves has a shot to beat him, but isn’t close to contention right now. Koscheck has a good shot, but AKA buddies don’t play like that. Hughes would lose (won’t take it anyways), Condit or Daley will, and he’s already beaten Paulo Thiago. There isn’t a top ten WW to fight him (again, Alves exclusion since that’s a sick rematch to be had) other than Dan Hardy, and Dana is smart enough to keep any new contender to GSP the fuck away from Fitch. Paths to titles go around Jon instead of through him for a good reason.
Simply, here’s what I’m trying to say. A top ten fighter is a contender, and Dana doesn’t want them to lose to someone that GSP recently destroyed. If they aren’t already top five, Fitch will decision the fuck out of them. He’s valuable for destroying people who need a loss and gets used for that purpose. Not to mention that Dana fuckin’ hates him, and is more than happy to throw no-names at him forever.
awesome..
stoked for this tourney… will it still be on espn deportes though?
Nope.

This is great...
it’s the same thing that TUF was supposed to represent. A tournament between high level prospects. We’re getting that with BFC, but without people jerking off into food.

Curious if some of these newcomers had revised contracts that demand fights within a certain period. I know Hornbuckle has said he’s interested in venturing to the UFC sometime in the near future. Doubt he wants to wait three years to fight out a four fight deal. According to the language in the story, it seems that he may have even signed just for the tournament. Seems to make a lot of sense to me and he’d be a really smart guy for doing just that, since he’s the favorite.

Yea, I think they loosened up their contracts as well. They must have had a lot of fighters turn them down. I know I wouldn’t want my name to be trademarked by them and be tied to their contract for 3 years.

Bellator WW Division
Is looking very nice and promising.
Lyman Good, Ben Askren, Jacob McClintock , Omar De La Cruz, and Dan Hornbuckle . Excellent pickups IMO.
I wonder if they'll do McClintock and Askren any favors
Anxious to see the brackets to find out if they’re on opposite ends.

I feel bad for them. Hornbuckle is going to be a HUGE favorite and can hurt them really bad. I would personally make Hornbuckle vs Lyman Good as a super fight and keep him out of the WW GP.

I love Hornbuckle but I still think this will be a real challenge for him. He takes a lot of risks and has still shown some weakness in sub defense with his aggressiveness. He’s still great against wrestlers, but he gets subbed form time to time. In a long tournament format like this, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to overextend himself and get injured or caught in a triangle again.
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.
He's a fighter who's won at least two fights in a row!!!
WHO CAN EVER STOP THIS MAN?!
50% more Ultimate than the leading competitor.
bellator is my 2nd favorite org for sure, it just keeps getting better too! i was positive it would be ‘afflicted’

I love that Bellator is trying to find a niche to operate in rather than just throwing money into trying to out do the UFC. Theres definately a market for what they are trying to put on.
As Mark Cuban said when he was getting involved in Affliction, “You dont have to be #1 to make money”.
Same with Shine
And MFC. I dig it.
